Book Investigation of the Corrosion Aspects of Selected Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Investigation of the Corrosion Aspects of Selected Aluminum Alloys written by Karlis Riskevics and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey and experimental results from investigations of aluminum corrosion under both static and dynamic test conditions are presented. Static corrosion tests were made on 8001, 8001 + 2.5% Mg and X2219 clad with M400 aluminum alloys. Dynamic corrosion tests were made only on the 8001 alloy. These tests were performed in three identical dynamic corrosion test loops. Initial tests in each loop were made to investigate corrosion behavior in high purity water at high temperatures and high flow velocities. Reproducibility tests were also carried out. An evaluation was made of aluminum-surface-area-to- watervolume-ratio effects on corrosion resistance. Prefilmed sample tests in which test specimens were prefilmed at two different temperatures in a static autoclave prior to the dynamic tests were also made. Results indicated that the corrosion rates of the 8001 aluminum alloy were too high for an economical design of the reactor core. A considerable amount of uncertainty was found to exist in the corrosion literature, as well as in the experimental data, regarding effects of various test parameters on corrosion behavior of this alloy. Time limitations for application to the Pathfinder reactor prohibited further investigation of this material. Consequently, a recommendation of the 8001 aluminum alloy as the boiling water reactor core cladding material, operating at Pathfinder conditions, could not be made.

Book Experiments in Corrosion Mechanism

Download or read book Experiments in Corrosion Mechanism written by Argonne National Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen analyses of corroded 1100 aluminum alloy have indicated an increase in hydrogen content of the metal near the corroding surface. Analysis of M-388 aluminum high temperature alloy have not indicated any such increase.

Book High Temperature Corrosion and Materials Applications

Download or read book High Temperature Corrosion and Materials Applications written by George Y. Lai and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Lai's 1990 book, High-Temperature Corrosion of Engineering Alloys, is recognized as authoritative and is frequently consulted and often cited by those in the industry. His new book, almost double in size with seven more chapters, addresses the new concerns, new technologies, and new materials available for those engaged in high-temperature applications. As we strive for energy efficiency, the realm of high-temperature environments is expanding and the need for information on high temperature materials applications was never greater. In addition to extensive expansion on most of the content of the original book, new topics include erosion and erosion-corrosion, low NOx combustion in coal-fired boilers, fluidized bed combustion, and the special demands of waste-to-energy boilers, waste incinerators, and black liquor recovery boilers in the pulp and paper industry. The corrosion induced by liquid metals is discussed and protection options are presented.

Book Aqueous Corrosion of 2S Aluminum at Elevated Temperatures

Download or read book Aqueous Corrosion of 2S Aluminum at Elevated Temperatures written by J. E. Draley and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2S aluminum corrodes uniformly in nearly pure water at rates which increase with temperature. The reaction is characterized by an initial period of relatively rapid corrosion, followed by a linear slow rate of corrosion. The slope of the linear part of the curve or the corrosion rate changes from about 0.05 to 1.3 mil per year average penetration rate from 125 to 200 ̊C. Above 200̊C intergranular attack occurs, with resultant more rapid penetration and deterioration of the metal.
