Book The Micro World Observed by Ultra High Speed Cameras

Download or read book The Micro World Observed by Ultra High Speed Cameras written by Kinko Tsuji and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-30 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is about ultra high-speed cameras, which enable us to see what we normally do not see. These are objects that are moving very fast, or that we just ignore. Ultra high-speed cameras invite us to a wonderland of microseconds. There Alice (the reader) meets a ultra high-speed rabbit (this volume) and travels together through this wonderland from the year 1887 to 2017. They go to the horse riding ground and see how a horse gallops. The rabbit takes her to a showroom where various cameras and illumination devices are presented. Then, he sends Alice into semiconductor labyrinths, wind tunnels, mechanical processing factories, and dangerous explosive fields. Sometimes Alice is large, and at other times she is very small. She sits even inside a car engine. She falls down together with a droplet. She enters a microbubble, is thrown out with a jet stream, and finds herself in a human body. Waking up from her dream, she sees children playing a game: “I see what you do not see, and this is....”. Alice thinks: “The ultra high-speed rabbit showed me many things which I had never seen. Now I will go again to this wonderland, and try to find something new.

Fully two dimensional refractive index information can be ob tained. The resolution on 35 mm film was sharp enough to allow 50 cm by 75 cm color enlargements. REFERENCES 1. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since television became practical in the early 1950s, closed-circuit television (CCTV) in conjunction with the light microscope has provided large screen display, raised image contrast, and made the images formed by ultraviolet and infrared rays visible. With the introduction of large-scale integrated circuits in the last decade, TV equipment has improved by leaps and bounds, as has its application in microscopy. With modem CCTV, sometimes with the help of digital computers, we can distill the image from a scene that appears to be nothing but noise; capture fluorescence too dim to be seen; visualize structures far below the limit of resolution; crispen images hidden in fog; measure, count, and sort objects; and record in time-lapsed and high-speed sequences through the light microscope without great difficulty. In fact, video is becoming indispensable for harnessing the fullest capacity of the light microscope, a capacity that itself is much greater than could have been envisioned just a few years ago. The time seemed ripe then to review the basics of video, and of microscopy, and to examine how the two could best be combined to accomplish these tasks. The Marine Biological Laboratory short courses on Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy in Biology, Medicine, and the Materials Sciences, and the many inquiries I received on video microscopy, supported such an effort, and Kirk Jensen of Plenum Press persuaded me of its worth.

Daniel Nimmervoll shows in this updated and expanded edition how you can freeze these dynamic moments with the help of your camera and produce proper artwork. First, he reveals how you can take water drop photos with the simplest means and without equipment. Then, he goes into detail with professional equipment and explains which preparations are necessary for various shootings. He deals with topics such as lighting, control units, solenoid valves, different drop liquids, the shutter delay of the camera and gives an insight into his workflow of image editing as well as reproducibility of the drop shapes. This new edition has also been expanded to cover the topics Water Wigs, special nozzles with a plastic-based 3D printing process as well as special UV flashes with fluorescent colours. The setups and settings, but above all timings, become trickier with each shooting, but the recording technique leaves plenty of room for experiments which lead to spectacular results. Book Photographer s Guide to the Nikon Coolpix P520

Download or read book Photographer s Guide to the Nikon Coolpix P520 written by Alexander S. White and published by White Knight Press. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a complete guide to the operation and features of the Nikon Coolpix P520 compact digital camera. The book explains all shooting modes, menus, functions, and controls of this superzoom camera in clear language, accompanied by more than 300 full-color illustrations and sample photographs. This user’s guide shows beginning and intermediate photographers not only how to capture still images and videos with the Coolpix P520, but when and why to use the camera’s many shooting options to get the results they want. The book does not assume specialized knowledge by the reader as it explains topics such as autofocus, manual focus, depth of field, aperture priority, shutter priority, HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography, ISO, memory cards, and flash modes. The book includes a detailed discussion of techniques for using the camera’s phenomenal zoom lens, with a maximum focal length of 1000mm, to full advantage. The book also discusses the camera’s features for using its built-in GPS tracking to map locations of images and to identify landmarks and other points of interest that can be recorded along with photographs. The book includes examples of the images that can be taken using the many creative settings of the camera, including the Picture Control settings, which let the photographer alter the color processing of images; the Scene and Special Effects shooting modes, with settings that are optimized for various subjects, including landscapes, portraits, pets, sunsets, and action shots; and the camera’s strong set of features for continuous (burst) shooting and interval shooting. In addition, the book goes beyond the realm of everyday photography, and provides introductions to more advanced topics such as infrared photography, street photography, and macro photography. The book also includes a full discussion of the video recording abilities of the Coolpix P520, which can shoot high-definition (HD) video with stereo sound, and which has special settings for recording short clips of high-speed video at rates up to 4 times normal speed. In addition, the book provides a detailed explanation of procedures for playing back images and videos in the camera and for using the camera’s Filter Effects option to add special effects to images after they have been captured. In three appendices, the book provides information about accessories that can be used with the Coolpix P520, including cases, external flash units, and the Nikon Wireless Mobile Adapter, which lets the user transfer images wirelessly from the camera to a smartphone. The appendices also include a list of useful web sites and other resources for further information, as well as a section with “quick tips” that help the user take advantage of the camera’s features in the most efficient ways possible.

Book Packaging of Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Products

Download or read book Packaging of Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Products written by Frank A. Paine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As was the case with Charles Ross's Packaging of Pharmaceuticals published by the UK Institute of Packaging in 1975 it is assumed that the reader of this book already has a broad understanding of the basics of packaging. If not the Packaging Users Handbook and the Handbook of Food Packaging are recommended. The packaging needs of pharmaceuticals are different in degree only from those of other perishable products such as processed foods. Because the required action of a medication can be nullified by any deterioration in its active principles the protection required from its packaging is at least an order of magnitude greater than that needed by foods for example. Functional efficiency is therefore of prime importance. Conversely the need for the packaging to 'sell' the medication is much less, hence the graphics required need only provide the right 'image' for the product when presented for use in hospital or surgery. Even when on sale at the pharmacy the 'appeal' required is that of providing hygiene and confidence more than anything else. Thus, the textual requirements are paramount including traceability (batch numbers, date-coding etc) in case of recall; while striking appearance to attract customer attention is in lower key. And with the increase in malicious tampering nowadays recall is more frequent.
