Book The Magnetic Levitation Train

Download or read book The Magnetic Levitation Train written by Jens Hillebrand and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, grade: 1,3, Vrije University Brussel (Solvay Business School), course: Advanced Technology, language: English, abstract: The magnetic levitation train analysed in this study was developed in Germany by the Transrapid International GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture by Siemens AG and ThyssenKrupp AG, as a means for high speed transportation. First prototypes were presented to the public as early as 1969 and 1979, yet, the first public high-speed maglev track was opened only four years ago in Shanghai, China. Despite the fact that businesspeople like engineers from all sorts of backgrounds speak very highly of the technology, the Shanghai track remains the only commercially operated one thus far.1 Purpose of this paper is to analyse the potential of the maglev train, to assess its strengths and weaknesses, and to spot opportunities as well as threats to the application of this state-of-the-art - or perhaps ahead-of-its-time - technology.

Book Comprehensive Survey of Maglev Train Technologies

Download or read book Comprehensive Survey of Maglev Train Technologies written by Ravikiran Kaur and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project presents a comprehensive survey of Maglev Train technologies that have developed over the years. Recent studies have shown that road transportation is the most common form of worldwide transportation accounting for about 35.1%. Further research has shown that 72.6% of total CO2 emissions from transportation results from road transportation and it consumes 75.3% of total transportation energy demand [1]. These facts together highlight the reason that there must be clean and efficient mass transportation systems. This shows the essential need for the electrification of railways and the necessity to improve their technological performance. Researchers and manufacturers have been encouraged to nurture developments of magnetic levitation, Maglev, based rail technology on a worldwide scale. Maglev systems are fully electrified systems that provide cleaner, faster, and more efficient public transportation systems. The paper provides a full assessment of Maglev train technologies that are currently operating or under construction. The history of Maglev trains is provided along with the various technologies that have been employed over the last few decades. With Japanese Maglev technology having an astonishing head start in the race they may be hard to beat. Germany followed closely with their Maglev train, Transrapid. China, Korea, and the United States are all stepping up their Maglev technologies. This paper will dive deep into each of these technologies and take a closer look at their propulsion, levitation, guidance, power, and control systems. Ten worldwide projects have been reviewed in detail analyzing their propulsion, levitation, and power system technology. Additionally, this paper provides a comparison between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and cost of construction between the high-speed rail, maglev train, and hyperloop.

Book Endless Quests Theory Experiments And Applications Of Frontiers Of Superconductivity

Download or read book Endless Quests Theory Experiments And Applications Of Frontiers Of Superconductivity written by Jiangdi Fan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to advancing and developing the frontiers of superconductivity; in particular, the theory of the Diagrammatic Iteration Approach (DIA), described in Chapter 1, is unique in the community of superconductivity. The application of DIA to electron correlation effects has allowed the tough issue of strongly-coupled electron systems to be solved, which is important for high-temperature superconductivity (HTS). DIA, when applied to a layered two-dimensional system, gives rise to marvelous outcomes that can explain all the anomalies in the normal state of HTS, and leads to a transition temperature that is dependent on quantities including the dielectric constant, electron band mass and spacing between layers. This then serves as a quantifiable guide on how to make ideal superconductors. Moreover, in such a scenario, the mechanisms of low- and high-temperature superconductivity can be unified on the basis of repulsive Coulomb interactions between electrons. The book contains rich first-hand information on experiments at the frontiers of superconductivity, as well as on relevant applications of such cutting-edge developments. For instance, Jiasu Wang, co-author of the chapter discussing the HTS Maglev train, is the person who completed the world's first HTS Maglev train. Thus, the draw of this book lies not only in its ability to marry theory, experiment and application, but also in its inclusion of research from prestigious experts of the field.

Book Infrastructure Design Signalling and Security in Railway

Download or read book Infrastructure Design Signalling and Security in Railway written by Xavier Perpinya and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-04-04 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Railway transportation has become one of the main technological advances of our society. Since the first railway used to carry coal from a mine in Shropshire (England, 1600), a lot of efforts have been made to improve this transportation concept. One of its milestones was the invention and development of the steam locomotive, but commercial rail travels became practical two hundred years later. From these first attempts, railway infrastructures, signalling and security have evolved and become more complex than those performed in its earlier stages. This book will provide readers a comprehensive technical guide, covering these topics and presenting a brief overview of selected railway systems in the world. The objective of the book is to serve as a valuable reference for students, educators, scientists, faculty members, researchers, and engineers.

Book Technical Assessment of Maglev System Concepts

Download or read book Technical Assessment of Maglev System Concepts written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government Maglev System Assessment Team operated from 1991 to 1993 as part of the National Maglev Initiative. They assessed the technical viability of four U.S. Maglev system concepts, using the French TGV high speed train and the German TR07 Maglev system as assessment baselines. Maglev in general offers advantages that include high speed potential, excellent system control, high capacity, low energy consumption, low maintenance, modest land requirements, low operating costs, and ability to meet a variety of transportation missions. Further, the U.S. Maglev concepts could provide superior performance to TR07 for similar cost or similar performance for less cost. They also could achieve both lower trip times and lower energy consumption along typical U.S. routes. These advantages result generally from the use of large gap magnetic suspensions, more powerful linear synchronous motors and tilting vehicles. Innovative concepts for motors, guideways, suspension, and superconducting magnets all contribute to a potential for superior long term performance of U.S. Maglev systems compared with TGV and TR07.
