Book High Resolution Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of Small Molecules

Download or read book High Resolution Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of Small Molecules written by W. H. Parklinson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 6.65 metre vacuum spectrograph operated at a wavelength resolution of 0.0006 nm has been used to study the spectroscopy of rare gas molecules relevant to the development of intense vacuum ultraviolet radiation sources and lasers, and photoabsorption and predissociation processes in molecular nitrogen, which in the 80-100 nm region are important sources of upper atmospheric atomic nitrogen. Absorption spectra of XeHe, XeNe, XeAr, XeKr, KrHe, KrNe, and KrAr have been photographed and interpreted as arising from transitions from bound ground states to bound or free excited electronic states of these van der Waals molecules; bound excited states have been found for XeKr and XeAr. The emission spectrum of diatomic argon in the 100-150 nm region has been found to consist of four band systems all terminating on the ground electronic state; the only discrete band system, that emitted from the lowest excited state, has been analyzed rotationally and characterized spectroscopically as a triplet state for which the long range potential has been estimated. The absorption spectrum of atomic krypton in the 84-124 nm region has been obtained, and excited Rydberg states with principal quantum number as high as 60 have been assigned; the lowest two ionization energies have been accurately determined. High resolution absorption spectra of dipole allowed transition in molecular nitrogen, from the ground state to excited Rydberg and valence states have been rotationally analyzed. Some large anomalies in frequency spacings and relative intensities have been interpreted in terms of strong homogeneous perturbations rather than predissociations. (Author).

Book Vacuum Ultraviolet Photoionization and Photodissociation of Molecules and Clusters

Download or read book Vacuum Ultraviolet Photoionization and Photodissociation of Molecules and Clusters written by Cheuk-Yiu Ng and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph reviews the recent progress in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photoionization and photodissociation processes. Photoionization, photoelectron, and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques have played an important role in revealing the photoionization and photodissociation dynamics of molecules in the vacuum ultraviolet region and in providing accurate energetic and spectroscopic information of ions as well as neutral molecules. The book represents the first detailed review of major experimental developments in the studies of single vacuum ultraviolet photon ionization and dissociation processes of gaseous molecules and clusters.

Book Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Techniques of Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy was first published in 1967. In the three decades since, the techniques associated with vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy have been greatly expanded. Originally published as two volumes in the serial "Experimental Methods in the Physical Sciences," Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy combines in one paperback volume information on the many advances in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) research. In addition, the book provides students and researchers with concise reviews of the important aspects of designing experiments in the VUV region. This is the only comprehensive treatise describing the use of synchrotron and other light sources for research, along with the new technologies in optical elements, multilayers, mirror coatings, soft x-ray zone plates, VUV detectors, interferometric spectrometers, and subjects such as spectromicroscopy, lithography, and photon-induced fluorescence. Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectroscopy is an ideal handbook both for the beginner and for the experienced researcher in any field requiring the use of VUV radiation. Key Features* Detailed review of synchrotron radiation sources including undulators and wigglers* Comprehensive outline of monochromator design* Concise review of optics theory for multilayers, spectrometers, and zone plates* Information about other important VUV sources such as laser produced plasmas and Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT) sources* Applications such as spectromicroscopy, lithography, and fluorescence

Book Determination of Spectroscopic Properties of Atmospheric Molecules from High Resolution Vacuum Ultraviolet Cross Section and Wavelength Measurements

Download or read book Determination of Spectroscopic Properties of Atmospheric Molecules from High Resolution Vacuum Ultraviolet Cross Section and Wavelength Measurements written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress is given on work on: cross section measurements in the transmission window regions of the Schumann-Runge bands of oxygen; the determinations of predissociation linewidths; the theoretical calculation of band oscillator strengths of the Schumann-Runge absorption bands of O-16O-18; the determination of molecular spectroscopic constants; and the combined Herzberg continuum cross sections. The experimental investigations relevant to the cross section measurements, predissociation linewidths, and molecular spectroscopic constants are effected at high resolution with a 6.65 m scanning spectrometer which is, by virtue of its small instrumental width (FWHM = 0.0013 nm), suitable for cross section measurements of molecular bands with discrete rotational structure. Such measurements are needed for accurate calculations of the stratospheric production of atomic oxygen and heavy ozone formed following the photo-predissociation of O-16O-18 by solar radiation penetrating between the absorption lines of O-16(sub 2).
