Book High Purity Refractory and Rare Metals

Download or read book High Purity Refractory and Rare Metals written by Grigorii Grigorevich Deviatykh and published by Cambridge International Science Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-purity refractory and rare metals are used on an increasing scale in technology and fundamental investigations. The authors examine methods of producing these metals, single-crystal growth, and properties in relation to the content of impurities and perfection of the crystal lattice. Distillation processes are analysed in detail with consideration for their deviations from thermodynamic equilibrium, including special features of evaporation from the open surface. An optimum programme of the variation of the parameters of zone melting resulting in the required degree of purification with the minimum number of passes is determined. New mechanisms of recrystallisation in the solid phase in the presence of the liquid phase are described.

Book High purity Refractory Metals for Thin Film Metallization of VLSI

Download or read book High purity Refractory Metals for Thin Film Metallization of VLSI written by Vadim Glebovsky and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown that cast targets of highly pure refractory metals like W, Mo, Ti, Ta, Co, et cetera and their compounds can be produced by means of a set of vacuum-metallurgical techniques-by vacuum high-frequency levitation, EB floating zone melting, EB melting, and electric arc vacuum melting as well as chemical purifying by ion exchange and halides. The cast refractory metal targets are extremely pure and chemically homogeneous. For magnetron sputtering and laser ablation, the cast silicide targets are also produced. The study reveals the possibilities and conditions of depositing the silicides and titanium-tungsten barrier layers by both the laser evaporation and magnetron sputtering. The physical and structural parameters as well as a trace impurity composition of sputtered metals and deposited thin films are studied by grazing-beam incidence X-ray diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, Rutherford backscattering of helium ions, mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, et cetera.

Book Physical Metallurgy of Refractory Metals and Alloys

Download or read book Physical Metallurgy of Refractory Metals and Alloys written by E. M. Savitskii and published by Springer. This book was released on 1970 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal reasons which induced the authors to write this book and the features of the book are set forth in the preface to the Russian edition. That section of the science of metals which in Russian is called "metallovedenie" or the "physical chemistry of metals" is generally referred to in scientific and technical literature published in the English language by the term "physical metallurgy." These concepts are much broader than the term" metallography," used in the scientific and technical literature of various countries, and applied solely to research on the interrelationships of the structure and proper ties of metals and alloys. Each science must have its own subject and its own method of research. Certainly, all specialists will agree that metals and alloys, including their solid solutions, mechanical mix tures, and metallic compounds, form the subject of "physical metallurgy" or "physical chemis try of metals." The aim of this science. is to produce a theory and to elucidate the experimental relationships which ought finally to make it possible to calculate quantitatively alloys Of given properties for any working conditions and parameters.

Book Preparation of Ultrafine High Purity Refractory Metal Powders

Download or read book Preparation of Ultrafine High Purity Refractory Metal Powders written by PHILIP J. CLOUGH and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported of an effort to establish procedures for producing ultrafine high purity powders of the refractory metals. The powders are to have smaller particle size and higher purity than those currently available. The power source was an electron beam; originally it was recommended that the beam be bent 45 degrees to prevent cathode contamination. However, at a pressure of 20 microns, Mo metal vapor was condensed in a relatively short space; the conclusion was made that the beam need not be bent to that great a degree, but could be nearly straight. The basic principles of the method proved sound; a small quantity of submicron Mo metal powder was produced. Work reported on an aluminum-alumina alloy established that the strength of the alloy can be raised as the particle size is decreased. Specimens heated to 70 and 160 degrees above the melting point of Al were stiff and no melting was obtained.

Book Refractory Metal Alloys Metallurgy and Technology

Download or read book Refractory Metal Alloys Metallurgy and Technology written by I. Machlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication documents Proceedings of the Symposium on Metal lurgy and Technology of Refractory Metal Alloys, held in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Hilton Hotel on April 25-26, 1968, under sponsorship of the Refractory Metals Committee, Institute of Metals Division, of the Metallurgical Society of AIME, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Symposium presented critical reviews of selected topics in refractory metal alloys, thereby contributing to an in-depth understanding of the state-of-the-art, and establishing a base line for further research, development, and application. This Symposium is fifth in a series of conferences on refractory metals, sponsored by the Metallurgical Society of AlME. Publications issuing from the conferences are valuable technical and historical source books, tracing the evolution of refractory metals from early laboratory alloying studies to their present status as useful engineering materials. Refractory metals are arbitrarily defined by melting point. A 0 melting temperature of over 3500 F was selected as the minimum for this Symposium, thus excluding chromium and vanadium, which logically could be treated with other refractory metals in Groups VA and VIA of the periodic table. The Refractory Metals Committee is planning reviews of chromium and vanadium in subsequent conferences.
