Book Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel The Science of Logic

Download or read book Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel The Science of Logic written by Georg Wilhelm Fredrich Hegel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 865 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This translation of The Science of Logic (also known as 'Greater Logic') includes the revised Book I (1832), Book II (1813) and Book III (1816). Recent research has given us a detailed picture of the process that led Hegel to his final conception of the System and of the place of the Logic within it. We now understand how and why Hegel distanced himself from Schelling, how radical this break with his early mentor was, and to what extent it entailed a return (but with a difference) to Fichte and Kant. In the introduction to the volume, George Di Giovanni presents in synoptic form the results of recent scholarship on the subject, and, while recognizing the fault lines in Hegel's System that allow opposite interpretations, argues that the Logic marks the end of classical metaphysics. The translation is accompanied by a full apparatus of historical and explanatory notes.

Book Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences in Basic Outline Part 1 Science of Logic

Download or read book Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences in Basic Outline Part 1 Science of Logic written by Georg Wilhelm Fredrich Hegel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hegel's Encyclopaedia Logic constitutes the foundation of the system of philosophy presented in his Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences. Together with his Science of Logic, it contains the most explicit formulation of his enduringly influential dialectical method and of the categorical system underlying his thought. It offers a more compact presentation of his dialectical method than is found elsewhere, and also incorporates changes that he would have made to the second edition of the Science of Logic if he had lived to do so. This volume presents it in a new translation with a helpful introduction and notes. It will be a valuable reference work for scholars and students of Hegel and German idealism, as well as for those who are interested in the post-Hegelian character of contemporary philosophy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2019 Reprint of 1894 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. The Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (first published in 1817) is a work that presents an abbreviated version of Hegel's systematic philosophy in its entirety and is the only form in which Hegel ever published his entire mature philosophical system. The fact that the account is exhaustive, that the grounding structures of reality are ideal, and that the system is closed makes the Encyclopedia a statement par excellence of absolute idealism. The present work represents part three of the Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences published separately as Hegel's Philosophy of Mind. This scholarly translated by undertaken by William Wallace and published by Oxford University Press.

Download or read book Shapes of Freedom written by Peter C. Hodgson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-06-07 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter C. Hodgson explores Hegel's bold vision of history as the progress of the consciousness of freedom. Following an introductory chapter on the textual sources, the key categories, and the modes of writing history that Hegel distinguishes, Hodgson presents a new interpretation of Hegel's conception of freedom. Freedom is not simply a human production, but takes shape through the interweaving of the divine idea and human passions, and such freedom defines the purpose of historical events in the midst of apparent chaos. Freedom is also a process that unfolds through stages of historical/cultural development and is oriented to an end that occurs within history (the 'kingdom of freedom'). The purpose and the process of history are tragic, however, because history is also a 'slaughterhouse' that shatters even the finest human creations and requires a constant rebuilding. Hegel's God is not a supreme being or 'large entity' but the 'true infinite' that encompasses the finite. History manifests the rule of God ('providence'), and it functions as the justification of God ('theodicy'). But the God who rules in and is justified by history is a crucified God who takes the suffering, anguish, and evil of the world into and upon godself, accomplishing reconciliation in the midst of ongoing estrangement and inescapable death. Shapes of Freedom addresses these themes in the context of present-day questions about what they mean and whether they still have validity.

Book Hegel s Encyclopedic System

Download or read book Hegel s Encyclopedic System written by Sebastian Stein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the most comprehensive of Hegel’s works: his long-neglected Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences in Outline. It contains original essays by internationally renowned and emerging voices in Hegel scholarship. Their contributions elucidate fundamental aspects of Hegel’s encyclopedic system with an eye to its contemporary relevance. The book thus addresses system-level claims about Hegel’s unique conceptions of philosophy, philosophical "science" and its method, dialectic, speculative thinking, and the way they relate to both Hegelian and contemporary notions of nature, history, religion, freedom, and cultural praxis.
