Book Handbook of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Download or read book Handbook of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia written by Timothy P Hughes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise, clinically focused pocket handbook assembles and synthesizes the latest developments and trends in the diagnosis and treatment of CML and provides an authoritative and convenient summary of the latest progress in TKI trials, the molecular monitoring of CML responses, and the development of new therapies to overcome resistance and improve patient care. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a rare type of leukemia (1–2 per 100,000 people) but is the most common chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm. CML remains a key model for the improved understanding of the pathophysiology of a malignancy at a molecular level; CML was the first cancer to be associated with a recurring chromosome abnormality, which generates the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome and its associated fusion gene BCR-ABL1. The clinical outcome for patients with CML has changed dramatically in the past 15 years and this has been due to the development of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), compounds that inhibit the activity of the oncogenic BCR-ABL1 protein. A number of first-, second- and third-generation TKIs are now available for the treatment of CML, although a number of treatment challenges remain, not least the development of treatment-resistant CML. Parallel to the development of specific drugs for treating CML, major advances have been made in the field of disease monitoring and standardization of response criteria.

Book Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Download or read book Chronic Myeloid Leukemia written by Tariq I. Mughal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highly Commended, BMA Medical Book Awards 2014 Chronic myeloid leukemia is a clonal disease that results from an acquired genetic change in a single pluripotential hemopoietic stem cell. Efforts to confront this disease have been assisted by advances in cellular and molecular biology and the speed at which these findings have transformed the therapeutic algorithm. Nevertheless, there is some uncertainty with regards to how best to assess efficacy of treatment, especially with regards to the most appropriate surrogate markers for overall survival. From the standpoint of biology and clinical management, this handbook provides an authoritative state-of-the-art review of current and developing progress.

Book Molecular Pathogenesis and Treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

Download or read book Molecular Pathogenesis and Treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia written by Masahiro Kizaki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-05 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Pathogenesis and Treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia provides a comprehensive understanding of the recent molecular genetics of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) and a characterization of the molecular targets for drug development. Included are therapeutic implications, diagnosis, and prognosis for understanding and facilitating daily practice in the management of patients with CML. Understanding of the pathogenesis and therapy of hematological malignancies such as CML has grown significantly in recent years. This development owe much to the progress in molecular biology and now makes a major contribution to diagnosis and to treatment that pharmacologically targets the molecular events of CML. Molecular targeting therapy with newly developed agents such as small molecules and antibodies for hematological malignancies are being discovered after years of research. Some of these, including tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as imatinib, nilotinib, and dasatinib, lead to increased survival rates and improved therapies. With the opinion leaders of basic and clinical research in the field as authors, this book reviews recent advances in the biology of CML.

Book CML Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dr Bhratri Bhushan
  • Publisher : Independently Published
  • Release : 2021-08-12
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 66 pages

Download or read book CML Chronic Myeloid Leukemia written by Dr Bhratri Bhushan and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) is one of the most treatable cancers. With the advent of new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, the management landscape of CML has dramatically changed, especially so in the past decade. In this book, together we will explore the subject of CML. This will help you understand the disease better. It is overwhelming to know that either you or your loved one has been diagnosed with CML and it may sound unrealistic that at this trying time you should pick up a book and understand the disease biology and management strategies but believe me, it is important. Today all of the decision making in medicine, especially in oncology, is "shared" decision making. What it means is that the team treating you is just one part of the decision making process, the other part is you and your family. An informed decision is a good decision and to make an informed decision, you must have reasonably enough knowledge of the subject. The goal of this book is in no way to be an all encompassing, comprehensive reference for all of your questions; but to provide you all of the useful information, without unnecessarily burdening you with confusing facts and figures. I have constructed this book in an interactive format, i.e., questions and answers. Most of these question I have picked up by my daily encounters with patients and their families and some I have constructed myself to bridge the gaps between the topics. I hope you will find this book helpful. I wish you and your loved ones long, healthy and prosperous lives.
