Book College of American Pathologists Practical Guide to Gynecologic Cytopathology

Download or read book College of American Pathologists Practical Guide to Gynecologic Cytopathology written by David C. Wilbur and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every practitioner will appreciate this image-rich guide that extensively covers the principles of gynecologic cytopathology. The 270-page reference volume takes a thorough look at practical matters such as evaluations of patients and their specimens as well as criteria to determine specimen adequacy. You will find comprehensive reviews of the morphology of the vast majority of entities both benign and malignant that are routinely identified in Pap tests. In the wake of CLIA-mandated individual proficiency testing, the CAP Cytopathology Committee envisioned this manual to cover both fundamental and advanced gynecologic cytology practice and to assist practitioners in their daily work as well as to "brush-up" prior to a proficiency test. To ensure that this is a complete resource, the authors included background material relevant to the understanding of basic cervical carcinogenesis, including the role of human papillomavirus and its vaccines. Principles relevant to the management of the cytology laboratory, such as specimen coding, quality assurance, and personnel management are expertly presented as well. A review of CAP programs in gynecologic cytology rounds out the volume.

Book Atlas of Non Gynecologic Cytology

Download or read book Atlas of Non Gynecologic Cytology written by Xin Jing and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cytology is a unique subspecialty in anatomic pathology, and plays a critical role in the diagnosis of a variety of benign and malignant lesions by using minimally invasive procedures, such as fine needle aspiration, brushing, washing and lavage. Cytology not only provides an accurate diagnosis of the lesion based on the cytomorphological evaluation at cellular level, but also provides material for molecular characterization of a tumor for targeted therapy. In the era of personalized medicine, cytology has continued to grow and evolve as an important diagnostic tool. For example, some types of procedures are routinely used, diagnostic criteria have become more refined, and certain terminology has been changed based on current WHO classifications. Therefore, it is necessary to update our knowledge and terminology in cytology. In this volume, we have retained the quality and the clarity of the series, and like the other volumes, this volume aims to be concise and comprehensive yet clinically relevant to daily practice. Although this volume is written by multiple authors, all chapters follow a similar format: brief introduction of the specific organ/system (including types of specimens and techniques to obtain samples), description of normal findings, and a practice approach to diagnose benign and malignant lesions. In each chapter, the key cytomorphological feature and main differential diagnoses of the lesion are summarized in a concise table. Images in each chapter are instructive and clearly represent findings. Where necessary, we have also illustrated the important ancillary tests, such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and molecular analysis, which are crucial for an accurate diagnosis and targeted therapy. The updated knowledge, including key cytomorphological features, current terminology and molecular diagnostic tests, is the highlight of this volume.

Book The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology

Download or read book The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology written by Diane Solomon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-04-08 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bethesda System for reporting the results of cervical cytology was developed as a uniform system of terminology, providing clear guidance for clinical management. The Bethesda System 2001 Workshop was convened to evaluate and update the 1991 Bethesda System terminology for reporting the results of cervical cytology. The New Edition has been extensively updated and revised to reflect the new Bethesda System. The new terminology reflects important advances in biological understanding of cervical neoplasia and cervical screening technology. The handbook has now been expanded to include more than 185 full color illustrations (twice the number of color images than in the 1st edition). New to the Second Edition are sections that address ancillary testing, including HPV, the inclusion of educational notes and recommendations, computerized screening, and anal cytology, as well as sample reports. In line with recent advances, the text and images address liquid-based cytology in addition to conventional cytology. In addition to its user-friendly, outline format, the inclusion of index allows the reader easier access to the information.

Book The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses

Download or read book The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses written by Robert J. Kurman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bethesda System was developed at a National Cancer Institute sponsored workshop in December 1988 to provide uniform diagnostic terminology that would facilitate communication between the laboratory and the clinician. The format of this report includes a descriptive diagnosis and an evaluation of specimen adequacy. A second workshop was held in April 1991 to evaluate the impact of The Bethesda System in actual practice and to amend and modify it where needed. One of the major recommendations of this second meeting was that precise criteria should be formulated for both the diagnostic terms and for the descriptors of specimen adequacy. That is the intended purpose of this report.
