Book Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level

Download or read book Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level written by Daene C. McKinney and published by IWMI. This book was released on 1999 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is facing severe and growing challenges in maintainig water quality and meeting the rapidly growing demand for water resources. In addition, water used for irrigation, the largest use of water in most developing countries, will likely have to be diverted increasingly to meet the needs of urban areas and industry whilst remaining a prime engine of agricultural growth. Finally, environmental and other in-stream water demands become more important as economies develop. The river basin has been acknowledged to be the appropriate unit of analysis to address these chanllenges facing water resources management: and modeling at this scale can provide essential information for policy makers in their decisions on allication of resources. This paper reviews the state of the art of modeling approaches to integrated water resources management at the river basin scale, with particular focus on the potential of coupled economic hydrologic models, and concludes with directions for future modeling exercises.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Combines the hydraulic simulation of physical processes with mathematical programming and differential dynamic programming techniques to ensure the optimization of hydrosystems. Presents the principles and methodologies for systems and optimal control concepts; features differential dynamic programming in developing models and solution algorithms for groundwater, real-time flood and sediment control of river-reservoir systems, and water distribution systems operations, as well as bay and estuary freshwater inflow reservoir oprations; and more."

Book Modeling Control and Optimization of Water Systems

Download or read book Modeling Control and Optimization of Water Systems written by Thomas Rauschenbach and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides essential background knowledge on the development of model-based real-world solutions in the field of control and decision making for water systems. It presents system engineering methods for modelling surface water and groundwater resources as well as water transportation systems (rivers, channels and pipelines). The models in turn provide information on both the water quantity (flow rates, water levels) of surface water and groundwater and on water quality. In addition, methods for modelling and predicting water demand are described. Sample applications of the models are presented, such as a water allocation decision support system for semi-arid regions, a multiple-criteria control model for run-of-river hydropower plants, and a supply network simulation for public services.

Book Stochastic Hydrology and its Use in Water Resources Systems Simulation and Optimization

Download or read book Stochastic Hydrology and its Use in Water Resources Systems Simulation and Optimization written by J.B. Marco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic hydrology is an essential base of water resources systems analysis, due to the inherent randomness of the input, and consequently of the results. These results have to be incorporated in a decision-making process regarding the planning and management of water systems. It is through this application that stochastic hydrology finds its true meaning, otherwise it becomes merely an academic exercise. A set of well known specialists from both stochastic hydrology and water resources systems present a synthesis of the actual knowledge currently used in real-world planning and management. The book is intended for both practitioners and researchers who are willing to apply advanced approaches for incorporating hydrological randomness and uncertainty into the simulation and optimization of water resources systems. (abstract) Stochastic hydrology is a basic tool for water resources systems analysis, due to inherent randomness of the hydrologic cycle. This book contains actual techniques in use for water resources planning and management, incorporating randomness into the decision making process. Optimization and simulation, the classical systems-analysis technologies, are revisited under up-to-date statistical hydrology findings backed by real world applications.

Book AQUARIUS a Modeling System for River Basin Water Allocation

Download or read book AQUARIUS a Modeling System for River Basin Water Allocation written by Gustavo E. Diaz and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the initial version of AQUARIUS, a computer model devoted to the temporal and spatial allocation of water flows among competing traditional and nontraditional water uses in a river basin. AQUARIUS is an analysis framework rather than a single dedicated model for water allocation. It uses an object-oriented programming language, which is ideal for water systems where each system component (e.g., reservoir, demand area, diversion point, river reach) is an object in the programming environment.
