Book excerpt: The Devil's Domicile. The notoriously infamous house is just one of the hot spots that cultists, freaks, and other assorted malcontents visit in Gravenfrost, Maine. Founded on ground so tainted it was said to be vomited up from the sea itself, Gravenfrost isn't your average sleepy New England town. When the host of a popular ghost-hunting TV show brutally murders his crew and co-hosts during an overnight filming, the FBI sends their agent most accustomed to "strange crap" Special Agent Bobby Doyle. Doyle likes his cases like he likes his whiskey: neat and smooth. This one, however, is anything but. Was it simply foul play... or something far more sinister? * * For MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY! * * Praise for "Gravenfrost" "A 'romp' is often over-used as a way to describe the kind of highly entertaining, free-wheeling action/horror story that Peter Hammarberg has come up with in Gravenfrost. A bloody, funny, spooky lovechild of Roger Avery, Quentin Tarantino, Stephen King and the kind of 69-cent 'Men's Adventure' novels you used to see in the spinner racks at the drugstore. This is fun, smart, cinematic stuff and I think most readers will like it a lot." "-Joe Kilmartin from We-Love-Monsters.com and PapaJoeMambo.com" "We can't stop here, it's ghost country! Brave readers will sit back, sip their whiskey, and enjoy this gonzo, hard-boiled spook story!" "-Tim Mucci, author of 'The Geek Baby Book, ' All Action Classics 'Tom Sawyer' and 'The Odyssey, ' and co-host of The Double Shadow podcast." "A ridiculously raucous read overflowing with clever dialogue, spooky ghouls and insane action with a finale you will not want to miss." "-Robert Nixon, graphic artist and grindhouse/horror aficionado"

Book excerpt: The Final Book in Bestselling Amish Writer Linda Byler's Lancaster Burning Trilogy Who is responsible for setting the barn fires that continue to keep the Amish of eastern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on edge? Who is responsible for seeing that they are stopped? In this third and final novel in the Lancaster Burning series, author Linda Byler takes us inside the home of Davey Beiler, the leader of this Amish district. He clearly feels the heat in more ways than one. Some of the younger members of his church are ready to testify against the man who has allegedly started at least several of the fires. Davey counsels patience and forgiveness. But when Sarah, Davey’s daughter, spots flames late one night in the widow Lydia’s barn, Sarah refuses to let the fire win. She gets the horses out just in time, but not before a beam explodes overhead, knocking her to the ground as the barn rages in flames all around her. In that moment, Sarah’s life “turned darker than black.” Gone were her lovely good looks, her life as a teacher, and perhaps the attention of the two young men who had been so drawn to her. No one suffers more torment than Davey, who wonders if he was really responsible for Sarah's accident. If he had agreed to have police guard the Amish farms, as some wanted, Sarah would not have been hurt. The Amish may be peace-loving, but they are not without their tensions. Author Byler, who is herself a member of the Amish, writes a tautly told story, full of dark fears, difficult dilemmas, and deep love.

Book The Epic of Gilgamesh

Download or read book The Epic of Gilgamesh written by Stephen Langdon and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-11-22 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year 1914 the University Museum secured by purchase a large six column tablet nearly complete, carrying originally, according to the scribal note, 240 lines of text. The contents supply the South Babylonian version of the second book of the epic sa nagba imuru, "He who has seen all things," commonly referred to as the Epic of Gilgamish. The tablet is said to have been found at Senkere, ancient Larsa near Warka, modern Arabic name for and vulgar descendant of the ancient name Uruk, the Biblical Erech mentioned in Genesis X. 10. This fact makes the new text the more interesting since the legend of Gilgamish is said to have originated at Erech and the hero in fact figures as one of the prehistoric Sumerian rulers of that ancient city. The dynastic list preserved on a Nippur tablet mentions him as the fifth king of a legendary line of rulers at Erech, who succeeded the dynasty of Kish, a city in North Babylonia near the more famous but more recent city Babylon. The list at Erech contains the names of two well known Sumerian deities, Lugalbanda and Tammuz. The reign of the former is given at 1,200 years and that of Tammuz at 100 years. Gilgamish ruled 126 years. We have to do here with a confusion of myth and history in which the real facts are disengaged only by conjecture.

Book Auntie Poldi And The Vineyards of Etna

Download or read book Auntie Poldi And The Vineyards of Etna written by Mario Giordano and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amateur sleuth Auntie Poldi finds a body in a vineyard—with the Mafia nipping at her heels—in “another wine-snortingly funny entry” (People) in this national-bestselling series. When Prosecco-loving Auntie Poldi retired to Sicily from Germany, she never dreamed her tranquil days would be interrupted by murder. But Sicily had other plans, and Poldi found herself honor-bound to solve the disappearance of her beloved (and cute) handyman. Now she’s finally ready for some peace and quiet—interrupted by romantic encounters with handsome Chief Inspector Montana, of course—when the water supply to her neighborhood is cut off and a dear friend’s dog is poisoned, telltale signs that a certain familial organization is flexing its muscles. Poldi knows there will be no resolution without her help. She soon finds a body in a vineyard, tangles with the Mafia, and yet again makes herself unpopular in the pursuit of justice. But once wine and murder mix, how could she possibly stay away? This is the sexy and thrilling follow-up to the first novel in this series, Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions, hailed by Adriana Trigiani as “an explosion of color [and] a celebration of the palette of Italian life and the Sicilian experience in its specificity, warmth and drama.”
