John Driscoll, believes there’s a sociopathic killer on the loose murdering prostitutes in New York City—someone who calls himself “Tilden” and claims to have been sexually abused as a child by his mother’s john. But he soon discovers Tilden’s not a run-of-the-mill sociopath. After all, would a common murderer have taken the time to embalm his victims, which the city’s chief medical examiner determined was the cause of their deaths? Driscoll, a man haunted by the events of an unstable childhood himself, must put aside any sympathy he may have for Tilden and put a stop to his murderous rampage. Teamed up with Sgt. Margaret Aligante and Det. Cedric Thomlinson, who have their own issues to deal with, the commander sets out to bring Tilden to justice before he kills again . . . “O'Callaghan is back with a vengeance . . . a complex but nuanced thriller that grabs you by the throat and never lets go.” —Gregg Olsen, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of If You Tell and Water’s Edge

Book Tell Me a Story

Download or read book Tell Me a Story written by Dante Fabiello and published by Xlibris Online. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once upon a time there was a little girl called Alexandra who asked her daddy, "Daddy, please tell me a stoooweee". Well this is my story on how I created thousands of children stories. These stories come from a world where animals of all kinds all talk and learn, like children, about life. Around the age of three my daughter got tired of me reading little kiddy stories and asked me "Daddy, please tell me a stoooweee". So every night I would make up a new short story. One day, when she was 7 years old, I decided to tape these stories so she could hear them over and over. Well that went on for 7 more years with over 110 hours and over 3,000 stories. There are so many stories that I will have to write many more volumes. So here we are, the first book is published and now kids all over the world can enjoy them as my daughter did for many years. The time you spend with your child is most rewarding. Never get tired of loving, kissing and hugging them, no matter how old they get. Please view the book website by Clicking here. Book Grasping the World

Download or read book Grasping the World written by Donald Preziosi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 1330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2004, this volume recognises that there is much more to museums than the documenting, monumentalizing, or theme-parking of identity, history and heritage. This landmark anthology aims to make strange the very existence of museums and to plot a critical, historical and ethical understanding of their origins and history. A radical selection of key texts introduces the reader to the intense investigation of the modern European idea of the museum that has taken place over the last fifty years. Texts first published in journals and books are brought together in one volume with up-to-the-minute and specially commissioned pieces by leading administrators, curators and art historians. The selections are organized by key themes that map the evolution of the debate and introduced by Donald Preziosi and Claire Farago, two considerable critics, who write with the edge and enthusiasm of art historians who have spent their lives working with museums. Grasping the World is an invaluable resource for students and teachers of art history and museum studies.

Book She Smiled on Constantinople

Download or read book She Smiled on Constantinople written by Reynold Spector and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-05-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 717 AD, Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium), appeared doomed. In the preceding eighty years, Muslim Arabs had captured much of North Africa and the Middle East, and were poised to take Constantinople. To save Byzantium, the senate asked a Roman General, Leo III, to become Emperor. Leo and his brilliant son Constantine V radically altered the Byzantine imperial system militarily and culturally. Leo developed a novel idea - that God was angry with the Byzantine Christians because they worshiped Christian icons, relics, and pagan idols, thus ignoring the Second Commandment. God would favor the Byzantines only if they destroyed their icons and purified Christianity. Leo's policy set in motion a century-long conflict between the iconoclast (icon breaker) emperors and the iconophiles (icon lovers). This religious struggle culminated in a final battle to define Byzantine Christianity and the control of the Empire. This novel recounts who won, why and how.

Book The Lichtenthal Psalter and the Manuscript Patronage of the Bohun Family

Download or read book The Lichtenthal Psalter and the Manuscript Patronage of the Bohun Family written by Lucy Freeman Sandler and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent discovery of an unknown fourteenth-century English manuscript in a German Cistercian convent has brought to light an exquisite, richly illustrated psalter, which is analysed and illustrated here for the first time. Although this remarkable find in Lichtenthal Abbey, near Baden-Baden, had been identified as belonging to a group of manuscripts associated with the prominent and royally-connected Bohun family, neither its illustrations nor its relationship to other Bohun manuscripts had until now been fully explored. In tracing the history of the Bohun family and their manuscript patronage, Professor Sandler places the Lichtenthal Psalter as a product of the 1380s in company with three other psalters of similar format, each produced by the closely knit groupt of scibes and artists who worked in the Bohun family residence at Pleshley Castle in Essex. She describes in detail the contents of the manuscript, its text and decoration, and offers evocative descriptions and penetrating interpretations of the meticulously depicted images that illustrate the Calendar, the Psalms, and the Office of the Cross. The author also examines in particular the style and execution of the historiated initials and bas-de-page Old Testament scences that illustrate the psalms in a continuous narrative sequence from the Creation to the Life of Moses. She compares these to the pictorial programs of the related Bohun psalters, and provides further evidence for the identification of the scribes and artists whose skill and inventiveness created one of the most outstanding group of illuminated manuscripts in fourteenth-century England. Every full-page miniature in the Lichtenthal Psalter is here reproduced in colour and in the size of the original. In addition there are enlarged detail reproductions in black-and-white of many of the intricate and tiny figure compositions that illustrate the biblical narrative, as well as comparative illustrations of other related Bohun manuscripts. The latter are listed in full, with relevant literature, in an Appendix.
