Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I firmly believed there was a world outside of our own minds . . . But all around me were challenges. . . . How could we be so sure there were such things existing apart from us? Philosopher Benedict Chilwell faces a crisis of confidence and hopes to resolve it in a self-imposed exile, far away in the north of Norway. From his cabin, he begins his meditations, pondering the mysteries of philosophy in the dark Arctic winter. Pride, a whale, love and lust, the Huldra, God and a chain of causes all interrupt Benedict's solitude. Could they prove his salvation? In six days approaching the return of the light, Benedict discovers a basis for certainty and tries his best to convince his hosts. Through doubts, questions and reasoning, Chilwell inadvertently follows in Descartes' footsteps. Will he be killed by the cold too; or will the warmth of Plato's sun save him in time?

Book excerpt: Before I gave my heart to Jesus Christ and received Him as my Lord and Savior, I lived a life that reflected decisions made outside the will of God. Christianity and salvation were the furthest thoughts from my mind, and I was happy living for the moment. Even though my sins were not categorized by man as being horrible sins worthy of punishment, nonetheless, in the sight of God, they were sins worthy of His punishment and, yet, His forgiveness.I wrote this book of poetry because I want you to know that Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart (or someone that you know). He wants to lift you from the darkness of sin and place you in the presence of the marvelous Light. He wants to become the Rock of your foundation, the Head of your life, the Redeemer of your sin, the Healer of your illness, and much, much more.Receiving Him changed my life! Now He wants to change yours!Cynthia E. Johnson is a first time author of inspirational poetry. She is a born again Baptist believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit. She and her husband, John, have two adult children. Born in Washington, D.C., raised in Augusta, Georgia, Cynthia currently resides with her family in Hinesville, Georgia.

Book A New Glimpse of Day One

Download or read book A New Glimpse of Day One written by S. D. Giere and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Informed by the understanding that all texts are intertexts, this work develops and employs a method that utilizes the concept of intertextuality for the purpose of exploring the history of interpretation of a biblical text. With Day One, Genesis 1.1–5, as the primary text, the intertextuality of this biblical text is investigated in its Hebrew (Masoretic Text) and Greek (Septuagint) contexts. The study then broadens to take up the intertextuality of Day One in other Hebrew and Greek texts up to c. 200 CE, moving from Hebrew texts such as Ben Sira and the Dead Sea Scrolls to Greek texts such as Josephus, Philo, the New Testament, and early Christian texts. What emerges from this is a new glimpse of the intertextuality of Day One that provides insight into the complexity of the intertextuality of a biblical text and the role that language plays in intertextuality and interpretation. In addition to the methodological insights that this approach provides to the history of interpretation, the study also sheds light on textual and theological questions that relate to Day One, including the genesis of creatio ex nihilo.

Book excerpt: "A Glimpse of Glory is a wonderful testament to God's love and promises from one who experienced death only reluctantly returning to life as we know it from the hereafter. The author wipes away the trepidation even Christians feel toward death and an inkling of what comes next while sharing his own humble beginnings, rugged upbringing and experiences. Rick East is the real deal and has a great message in his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and what he believes God wants him to share with as many as possible. This story is first rate with a vivid emotional impact and obviously has God's blessing." Nick Weyland, fellow author and Christian brother A Glimpse of Glory A mysterious illness caused Rick East to lapse into respiratory failure the afternoon of December 25, 2012. Rick discovered his spirit was in heaven and was being coached by the Holy Spirit. Rick saw the city of heaven and had many conversations with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit answered questions that have puzzled Christians for years.

Book excerpt: Ayahuasca Glimpse is a sui generis book , focusing in the practical preparation of sacramental use of etheogenic substances, it does encourage us to take a good and hard look at the roots of shamanic rituals and the notion that they were based on fertility cults, and shamanic practices such as Ambrosia and Soma rituals, it is a source of spiritual communion with the universal consciousness, of God. Goithyja is Another great explorer and pathfinder in human consciousness Such mind altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of ancient peoples. He approaches such matter in a popular type of writing, that the otherworldly and the ordinary, participation and observation; the result is a easy to ready book out there, enforcing a practical approach to such field of knowledge, I do suspect that ethnobotanists and anthropologists familiar with the Amazon will find relatively few surprises, on this book, But the ant hills of detail are not the point. Ayahuasca Glimpse is designed to inform a wider audience of how to safely communicate with entheogens, Goithyja with his background in meditation and mysticism or other more internalized psychedelics, has the Holy Vedas as spiritual guidance to follow, making easy for Psychonauts to experience with entheogens. Ayahuasca glimpse can be pretty handy to novices and neophytes, to safely approach such realm, pointing also the best entheogenic substances to use, and the best countries to partake with them.
