Book Geosynthetics

Download or read book Geosynthetics written by David I. Cook and published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geosynthetics often play critical roles in civil engineering and it is important that the materials in use can withstand the physical and chemical pressures of the environment. These range from resistance to leachates from landfill to resistance to root damage in soil liners, as well as standard properties such as resistance to creep, oxidation and UV light, and tensile strength. This Rapra Review Report discusses the polymers used in each category of geosynthetics, production methods, test methods and applications. The review is accompanied by around 400 abstracts from papers and books in the Rapra Polymer Library database, to facilitate further reading on this subject.

Book The Application of Geosynthetics in Waterfront Areas

Download or read book The Application of Geosynthetics in Waterfront Areas written by and published by PIANC. This book was released on 2011 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report is intended to give public and port authorities, designers and contractors insight in the applications and the limitations of geosynthetics in waterfront structures. It is not a design book, but it should allow the users to quickly evaluate the possible use of a geotextile and to decide if a more detailed design is useful."--Introduction

Book Geosynthetics in Civil Engineering

Download or read book Geosynthetics in Civil Engineering written by R W Sarsby and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2006-12-22 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geosynthetics are man-made polymer-based materials which facilitate cost effective building, environmental, transportation and other construction projects. Given their versatility, geosynthetics are a vital material in all aspects of civil engineering. The first section of the book covers the fundamentals of geosynthetics. Chapters discuss the design and durability of geosynthetics together with their material properties and international standards governing their use. Building on these foundations, part two examines the various applications of geosynthetics in areas such as filters, separators, landfills, barriers and foundation materials. The book concludes by reviewing methods of quality assurance and the service life of geosynthetics. Written by an international team of contributors, Geosynthetics in civil engineering is an essential reference to all those involved in civil engineering. Discusses the fundamentals of geosynthetics Examines various applications in areas such as filters, separators, landfills and foundation materials Reviews quality assurance and the service life of geosynthetics

Book Geosystems Design Rules and Applications

Download or read book Geosystems Design Rules and Applications written by Adam Bezuijen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geotextile encapsulated sand elements are three-dimensional systems manufactured from textile materials, non-woven materials or combinations of textile and non-woven materials that are filled with sand on-site. These systems are relatively new and the number of applications is growing in river and coastal engineering. Quite often Geosystems are mentioned as a possible solution, but planners, designers and contractors feel rather hesitant about the application of geotextile encapsulated sand elements due to a lack of experience and adequate design rules. The use of geosystems has the advantage that local material can be applied and that no (expensive) quarry stone needs to be extracted and transported from the mountains to the site. Compared to traditional construction methods (with quarry stone) the application of geotextile sand filled elements may add considerable operational advantages to the execution of marine works and may offer attractive financial opportunities. In the application of geotextile encapsulated sand elements however, proper attention should be paid to the laying down of different responsibilities of the parties in the contract. In Geosystems. Design Rules and Applications four types of geotextile sand elements are distinguished, each with specific properties: geo-bags, geo-mattresses, geotextile tubes and geotextile containers. The focus is on the use of geosystems filled with sand as a construction in river and coastal engineering. Geosystems filled with sludge are not covered. The chapters “Introduction” and “General design aspects” are followed by four chapters of the same structure dealing with the various systems. Each of these four chapters starts with a general description and applications and ends with a calculation example. Design aspects are dealt with in the remaining paragraphs. Geosystems. Design Rules and Applications is based on research commissioned by the Dutch Rijkswaterstaat and Delft Cluster. The realisation of the Dutch version was coordinated by a CUR-committee. The English version is a translation of the Dutch version (CUR-publication 217). However, new developments have been added and the text was checked once again and improved. Geosystems. Design Rules and Applications is an essential reference for professionals and academics interested in River and Coastal Engineering, but aims also at those interested in Geotechnical Engineering.

Book Recommendations of the Committee for Waterfront Structures Harbours and Waterways

Download or read book Recommendations of the Committee for Waterfront Structures Harbours and Waterways written by HTG and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-01-09 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recommendations have been completely restructured in this 12th (2020) edition of the EAU (10th English edition), the aim being to provide readers with a better, clearer arrangement of the chapters. In addition, the information published in the annual technical reports of the Waterfront Structures Committee since the publication of the 11th German edition have been incorporated in this new edition. The recommendations also take into account the new generation of standards consisting of Eurocode 7, the associated National Application Documents and supplementary national publications (DIN 1054:2010). In isolated instances, partial safety factors differing from those in the codes are specified on the basis of practical experience. Safety standards for ports, harbours and marine structures are therefore upheld. The recommendations satisfy the need for international acceptance in the planning, design, tendering, award of contract, construction, site supervision, acceptance and settlement of accounts for port, harbour and waterway facilities based on uniform approaches.
