Book Geology of Ordovician Rocks Melville Peninsula and Region Southeastern District of Franklin

Download or read book Geology of Ordovician Rocks Melville Peninsula and Region Southeastern District of Franklin written by Thomas Elwood Bolton and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The seven papers comprising this bulletin describe the Ordovician rocks and faunas of the southeastern Arctic Platform. The strata are an erosional remnant of a once widespread sheet of sedimentary rocks that mantled the Canadian Shield. The descriptions of the varied fauna establish a paleontological sequence by which we may more precisely correlate the several widely separated basins of Paleozoic deposition of the Eastern Craton." --

Book A Global Synthesis of the Ordovician System Part 2

Download or read book A Global Synthesis of the Ordovician System Part 2 written by T. Servais and published by Geological Society of London Special Publications. This book was released on 2023-06-08 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ordovician was one of the longest of the geological periods, characterized by major magmatic and tectonic activity, an immense biodiversification, swings in climate and sea levels, and the first Phanerozoic mass extinction. ‘A Global Synthesis of the Ordovician System’ is presented in two volumes in The Geological Society, Special Publications. Whereas the first volume (SP532) concentrates on general aspects and a synthesis of the Ordovician geology of Europe, this volume (SP533) includes reviews of Ordovician successions of most other parts of the world. The classic successions of the Ordovician basins of North America are presented, as well as those of China where several of the Ordovician Global Boundary Stratotype Sections and Points are defined. The volume also includes syntheses of the Ordovician geology of Africa, South America, most regions of Asia from the Near to the Far East along with Central Asia, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica.

This book was released on 2001 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of their generally great abundance and high diversity, brachiopods from the Red River and Stony Mountain formations of southern Manitoba are important to understanding the pattern, process, and rate of evolution, radiation, and extinction of the North American epicontinental marine shelly benthos during the Late Ordovician. This report presents a detailed taxonomic treatment of these brachiopods, coupled with an assessment of their implications for biostratigraphy, palaeoecology, and palaeobiogeography at continental and global scales.

Book Sedimentary Coastal Zones from High to Low Latitudes

Download or read book Sedimentary Coastal Zones from High to Low Latitudes written by I.P. Martini and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a world where the loss of sea ice and thawing of coastal grounds in the north, and renewed marine transgression and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events globally, are becoming commonplace. This volume presents a timely examination of coasts, the geological environment at particular risk, as global warming brings on this new reality. In 23 papers, low lying, mainly siliciclastic coasts are reviewed, described and analysed, under a variety of climates in quasi-stable tectonic settings along passive, trailing-continental edges from Polar Regions to the Tropics. Examples include coast of the Arctic seas, temperate to tropical eastern shores of the Americas, western Portugal, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, South Africa and Australia. The entire coastal zone (landscape) is considered ranging from geophysical processes and products to biological entities including the adaption of Native People in various climatic zones. Knowledge of the state of the coasts now, and how the coastal plain has evolved since Late Pleistocene, is crucial for any realistic planning for the future.
