Book Evolution of Motions of a Rigid Body About its Center of Mass

Download or read book Evolution of Motions of a Rigid Body About its Center of Mass written by Felix L. Chernousko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-20 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a unified and well-developed approach to the dynamics of angular motions of rigid bodies subjected to perturbation torques of different physical nature. It contains both the basic foundations of the rigid body dynamics and of the asymptotic method of averaging. The rigorous approach based on the averaging procedure is applicable to bodies with arbitrary ellipsoids of inertia. Action of various perturbation torques, both external (gravitational, aerodynamical, solar pressure) and internal (due to viscous fluid in tanks, elastic and visco-elastic properties of a body) is considered in detail. The book can be used by researchers, engineers and students working in attitude dynamics of spacecraft.

Book The Precession of Spinning Bodies Due to Gravitational Gradient Torques

Download or read book The Precession of Spinning Bodies Due to Gravitational Gradient Torques written by T. B. Garber and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results are presented of an analytical investigation of the precessional motion of spinning bodies due to gravitational gradient torques. The motion of the center of mass of the body is restricted to circular or nearcircular orbits. However, the secular regression of the orbital plane due to the earth's oblateness is considered. In the analysis of the rotational motion of the body about its center of mass, it is assumed that the gravitational gradient torques are small perturbations. The unperturbed body is perfectly stabilized with respect to inertial space. Within this framework, solutions are obtained for the precessional motion of a body with an arbitrary mass distribution. It is concluded that for low spin rates of the order of 0.1 rad/sec, the change in body attitude due to the gravitational gradient torques alone might be as great as 17 degrees after a period of five days. For a gyroscopic instrument with a spin rate of 2000 rad/sec, an attitude error of 1 min. can develop after a period of 40 days. (Author).

Book Theory Of Orbital Motion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Tan Arjun
  • Publisher : World Scientific Publishing Company
  • Release : 2008-01-04
  • ISBN : 9813101520
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Theory Of Orbital Motion written by Tan Arjun and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2008-01-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orbital motion is a vital subject which has engaged the greatest minds in mathematics and physics from Kepler to Einstein. It has gained in importance in the space age and touches every scientist in any field of space science. Still, there is almost a total dearth of books in this important field at the elementary and intermediate levels — at best a chapter in an undergraduate or graduate mechanics course. This book addresses that need, beginning with Kepler's laws of planetary motion followed by Newton's law of gravitation. Average and extremum values of dynamical variables are treated and the central force problem is formally discussed. The planetary problem in Cartesian and complex coordinates is tackled and examples of Keplerian motion in the solar system are also considered. The final part of the book is devoted to the motion of artificial Earth satellites and the modifications of their orbits by perturbing forces of various kinds.

Book Orbital Perturbations Due to Attitude Libration of an Arbitrary Rigid Body Moving in a Central Newtonian Field

Download or read book Orbital Perturbations Due to Attitude Libration of an Arbitrary Rigid Body Moving in a Central Newtonian Field written by Srinivas Narayan Mohan and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interaction between attitude libration and orbital motion of a rigid body moving in a central Newtonian field is studied. Linearized equation of motion in the neighborhood of a circular orbit are presented, and gravity-gradient stability analysis is extended to include effects of the above interaction. The phenomenon of pitch resonance is explained in terms of this interaction. An average solution of the coupled orbital-attitude motion in the plane is presented. (Author).
