Book Hoop wrapped Composite Internally Pressurized Cylinders

Download or read book Hoop wrapped Composite Internally Pressurized Cylinders written by John A. Walters and published by American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise and timely practitioner guide offers a comprehensive theoretical background and a design procedure for hoop-wrapped composite gas cylinders. It provides insight into the effects of process variables and how they interact, allowing a predictive approach to design and enabling test results to be assessed in a more meaningful way. This theory is also generally applicable to all kinds of internally pressurized cylindrical pressure vessels and pipes where hoop reinforcement is an integral part of the design. The author has served on numerous standards committees and has over 45 years of experience in the industry. Co-published by Professional Engineering Publishing, UK, and ASME Press.

Book Design of Automotive Composites

Download or read book Design of Automotive Composites written by Charles Lu and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2014-08-04 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design of Automotive Composites reports that successful designs of automotive composites occurred recently in this arena. The chapters consist of eleven technical papers selected from the Automotive Composites and other relevant sessions that the editors have been organizing for the SAE International World Congress over the past five years. The book is divided into four sections: o Body Structures o Powertrain Components o Suspension Components o Electrical and Alternative Vehicle Components The composite design examples presented in Design of Automotive Composites come from the major OEMs and top-tier suppliers and are most relevant to the automotive materials challenges currently faced by the industry. Many of the innovative ideas have already been implemented on existing or new model vehicles, although a great deal of innovation is still in the works. With the advantage of supporting lightweighting and faster time to market, there is little doubt that composite materials can provide many tangible benefits and will become, over time, the material of choice for automakers.

Book Some Results on Orthotropic High Pressure Cylinders

Download or read book Some Results on Orthotropic High Pressure Cylinders written by G. P. O'Hara and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the current emphasis on composite materials, it has become necessary to use the thick wall cylinder equations for cylindrically orthotropic materials. This report is a preliminary investigation of these equations. The most important result is that many of the old ideas of high pressure cylinders will have to be changed. When the cylinder is very thin (wall ratio near 1.0), the simple thin-wall equations are adequate. However, as thickness increases, stress variation through the wall becomes large and the full thick-wall solution is necessary. In orthotropic (composite) cylinders this transition happens at a lower wall ratio. Furthermore, the maximum useful wall ratio may become smaller for a composite cylinder. (Keywords:) Cylinder, Stress, Strain, Composite, Orthotropic Cylinders.

Book Ceramic Matrix Composites

Download or read book Ceramic Matrix Composites written by Composite Materials Handbook – 17 (CMH-17) and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth volume of this six-volume compendium publishes technical guidance and properties on ceramic matrix composite material systems. The selected guidance on technical topics related to this class of composites includes material selection, processing, characterization, testing, data reduction, design, analysis, quality control, application, case histories, and lessons learned of typical ceramic matrix composite materials. Volume 5, which covers ceramic matrix composites, supersedes MIL-HDBK-17-5 of June 17, 2002. The Composite Materials Handbook, referred to by industry groups as CMH-17, is an engineering reference tool that contains over 1,000 records of the latest test data for polymer matrix, metal matrix, ceramic matrix, and structural sandwich composites. CMH-17 provides information and guidance necessary to design and fabricate end items from composite materials. It includes properties of composite materials that meet specific data requirements as well as guidelines for design, analysis, material selection, manufacturing, quality control, and repair. The primary purpose of the handbook is to standardize engineering methodologies related to testing, data reduction, and reporting of property data for current and emerging composite materials. It is used by engineers worldwide in designing and fabricating products made from composite materials.
