Download or read book Renewable Energy in Marine Environment written by Eugen Rusu and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-25 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of human-caused global warming are obvious, requiring new strategies and approaches. The concept of business-as-usual is now no longer beneficial. Extraction of renewable energy in marine environments represents a viable solution and an important path for the future. These huge renewable energy resources in seas and oceans can be harvested, including wind, tide, and waves. Despite the initial difficulties related mostly to the elevated operational risks in the harsh marine environment, newly developed technologies are economically effective or promising. Simultaneously, many challenges remain to be faced. These are the main issues targeted by the present book, which is associated with the Special Issue of Energies Journal entitled “Renewable Energy in Marine Environment”. Papers on innovative technical developments, reviews, case studies, and analytics, as well as assessments, and papers from different disciplines that are relevant to the topic are included. From this perspective, we hope that the results presented are of interest to for scientists and those in related fields such as energy and marine environments, as well as for a wider audience.

Download or read book The Story of Nigeria s Petroleum Industry written by Oyeniyi Osundina and published by novum pro Verlag. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a scrupulous account of the petroleum industry from 1906 to the present. The story traces development before the discovery of oil in Oloibiri and proceeds to offer comprehensive account of various legislative instruments that were adopted in the development process. The Nigerian Content Law, the gas flaring difficulties and the issue of sabotage are amply dealt with. The book has several media reports to spotlight the heavy corruption ravaging the industry and closes with the attempted subsidy removal by the Jonathan administration. The author ends with a philosophical rhetoric "as if there is no future", calling into question the role of politics and politicians in the misfortune of Nigeria's oil and gas sector. The application of legislation and regulation to the practice of oil and gas is a consistent theme permeating through the book, giving it not only a solid academic emphasis to the readers, but also a strong orientation towards policy. The book is well positioned to address the technical and commercial issues of the Nigerian's oil and gas sector which should be familiar to oil company managements and experts.

Download or read book Children of the Sea written by Peter Aitchison and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2001 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One hundred and eighty-nine men drowned in a single afternoon in Scotland's worst fishing disaster. It is a forgotten part of the nation's past, yet it happened just a hundred and twenty years ago. It decimated the coastal community of Eyemouth where the effects of Black Friday are felt to this day. Children of the Sea is the remarkable story of a village on the margins of the sea and at the edge of the country. It is a tale of survival through the wars of independence and the witch-hunts of the seventeenth century; of danger and high jinks when Eyemouth was the centre of a massive smuggling ring; and above all of the hope and tragedy of fishing and of battles with the minister. It is a story of a people who fought to survive, and whose voice can now be heard, from tales handed down through the generations.
