Book Principles of Surgical Oncology

Download or read book Principles of Surgical Oncology written by Ronald Raven and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis during the present decade of different arts and sciences to form oncology as a mUltidisciplinary subject is of profound importance for coordinating the clinical and research efforts to control a number of diseases that cause high mortality and morbidity in the human race and to elucidate their causation. These diseases traditionally have been grouped together under the general term of cancer, without any scientific reason and irrespective of many differences existing between them. The word cancer, because it is synonymous with diseases that cause suffering and death, naturally generates fear in people throughout the world. Cancer fortunately has a changing face caused by the realization that these diseases are different diseases with variable etiology and prognosis; they need different kinds of treatment, and even prevention is a practical proposition. The time has therefore come to delete the term cancer from our terminol ogy as unscientific and unhelpful and to substitute oncological diseases governed by the system of knowledge designated oncology. This conforms also with the designations used for other groups of diseases. In the divisions of oncology an important place is held by surgical oncology because many oncological diseases require surgical treatment alone, or in combination with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Combina tion therapy is being used effectively for an increasing number of these diseases, and this trend will become more pronounced as chemotherapy develops. The results achieved with available chemicals and present dosage schedules are impressive.

Download or read book Surgical Oncology written by M Asif Chaudry and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-07-23 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How should surgeons deal with cancer patients? The cornerstone of effective treatment is a multidisciplinary collaboration between many specialties in which surgeons are not only concerned about operative accessibility and technique but rather have a deep understanding of the fundamental biology of the malignancy they are dealing with and appreciate the reach of multi-modal treatment. This handbook is a practical reference for today's surgeons who actively manage cancer patients in both the acute and out-patient setting. It covers all the key areas, from initial presentation and diagnosis, investigation and staging, to active discussion in collaborative multidisciplinary cancer network meetings, operative management, post-operative care, and long term surveillance and palliation. Drawing together all the varied guidelines and source materials that form the basis of this complex subject, it is the first surgical oncology text that provides instant access to detailed clinical algorithms and operative techniques covering the wide range of cancers that general surgeons encounter, from GI tract to breast and endocrine cancers. Consistently sourced from current evidence based guidelines with a concise summary of underlying pathology and molecular biology, Surgical Oncology will enable the reader to knowledgably manage cancer patients from initial assessment to long term surveillance. It is an essential accompaniment for all higher surgical trainees from MRCS to the exit FRCS and EBSQ exams, and will be particularly useful for trainees rotating between surgical subspecialties, as well as having wide appeal to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Book Atlas of Operative Procedures in Surgical Oncology

Download or read book Atlas of Operative Procedures in Surgical Oncology written by Constantine P. Karakousis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-13 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the product of the author's long experience with melanomas and sarcomas and to a lesser but significant degree with upper gastrointestinal cancers, colorectal and breast cancers. As such, it offers a “hands-on” practical guide to approaching complex soft-tissue tumors and for performing more extensive tumor resections based on over 40 years of surgical experience. It provides important details about the positioning of patients, incision types, and exposure which can be of paramount importance in the resection of certain tumors. The book contains important general surgical principles for approaching tumors in a variety of locations but also offers the detail necessary for the safe and oncologically sound resection of these malignancies. Moreover, this operative atlas contains specific information for procedures which are not as commonly encountered in surgical training, but can be invaluable in the management of patients with locally aggressive tumors, such as hemipelvectomy and its variants, sacral resections, and forequarter amputation. Through the use of multiple detailed illustrations, Atlas of Operative Procedures in Surgical Oncology serves as a valuable resource to the general surgeon or surgical oncologist in the operative management of patients with cancer in the abdomen, retroperitoneum, pelvis or extremities.

Book Orthopedic Surgical Oncology For Bone Tumors

Download or read book Orthopedic Surgical Oncology For Bone Tumors written by Harzem Özger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-02 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas presents a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases. It covers the fundamentals of orthopedic oncology complemented with relevant aspects that are demonstrated using individual cases. In a specialty that deals with a relatively smaller number of cases compared to tumors of other systems, this atlas prepares readers for clinical practice by combining a problem-based learning (PBL) approach, which lies on the continuum between structured and guided learning, with theory and practical insights. The book is divided into sections, arranged according to anatomical regions and the reconstruction type. Each section focuses on a specific anatomical region, and each case presentation includes the basic clinical history, basic principles, preoperative, perioperative and radiographic images, a pitfall list, treatment strategy, technical pearls, outcomes and complications. For each region the authors discuss both the biological and non-biological reconstruction techniques. The book is designed to actively involve the reader, making it an invaluable tool for all orthopedic surgeons confronted with oncologic surgery. The book is intended for trainees in orthopedics, orthopedic oncology fellows as well as practicing consultants.

Book Textbook of Surgical Oncology

Download or read book Textbook of Surgical Oncology written by Graeme J. Poston and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-11-15 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surgery alone cures more than 60% of those patients whose cancer are amenable to curative treatment. Surgical oncology is not universally accepted as a unified discipline worldwide. There are many reasons for this situation, including the drive to anatomic site specialization, but also the need to provide comprehensive 'general' surgical provision to more isolated and rural communities. Textbook of Surgical Oncology, written by a highly acclaimed list of international authors, comprehensively covers the role of the surgical oncologist in the management of patients with solid tumors. This book provides a state of the art review of cancer surgery for senior residents approaching certification at the completion of their training as well as providing an up to date reference work for established clinicians in their day to day practice, including those in general surgery, surgical oncology, urologists, gynecologists, thoracic, neurosurgical, radiation oncologist and medical oncologists.
