Book Twin Block Functional Therapy

Download or read book Twin Block Functional Therapy written by William Clark and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twin Block appliances are simple bite blocks that are designed for full-time wear. They achieve rapid functional correction of malocclusion (misalignment of upper and lower teeth) by the transmission of favourable occlusal forces to occlusal inclined planes that cover the posterior teeth. The forces of occlusion are used as the functional mechanism to correct the malocclusion (www.twinblocks.com). Beginning with an introduction to orthodontics and twin blocks, the next chapters describe growth studies and diagnosis and treatment planning. Each of the following sections discusses the use of twin blocks for different types of malocclusion. With a focus on the latest developments in functional therapy, the book offers guidance on diagnosis, treatment planning, case selection, appliance design and clinical management. Written by the internationally recognised Orthodontist William Clark from Fife, UK, who also invented Twin Blocks, this comprehensive guide includes nearly 600 clinical photographs and illustrations. Key points Comprehensive guide to use of Twin Blocks in treatment of malocclusion Focus on latest developments in functional therapy Written by UK-based inventor of Twin Blocks Includes nearly 600 images and illustrations

Book excerpt: There's a silent epidemic in western civilization, and it is right under our noses. Our jaws are getting smaller and our teeth crooked and crowded, creating not only aesthetic challenges but also difficulties with breathing. Modern orthodontics has persuaded us that braces and oral devices can correct these problems. While teeth can certainly be straightened, what about the underlying causes of this rapid shift in oral evolution and the health risks posed by obstructed airways? Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich, a pioneering orthodontist and a world-renowned evolutionist, respectively, present the biological, dietary, and cultural changes that have driven us toward this major health challenge. They propose simple adjustments that can alleviate this developing crisis, as well as a major alternative to orthodontics that promises more significant long-term relief. Jaws will change your life. Every parent should read this book.

Book Functional Reconstruction of the Mandible

Download or read book Functional Reconstruction of the Mandible written by Roland R. Schmoker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1958 the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (ASIF) has worked to establish the experimental and biomechanical prin ciples of the operative treatment of fractures. It has been proven that immediate, pain-free mobilization, made possible by stable internal fixation, is the key to restoring function in a fractured extremity. The same principles were applied in 1972173 by Roland Schmoker, who developed a universal plate and sophisticated instrument set designed initially for the treatment of comminuted fractures of the mandible. To extend the applications of his plate to reconstructions after ex tensive tumor resections, he supplemented the device with tem poromandibular joint prostheses and anchoring elements for the at tachment of dentures. He first tested the functional stability of these implants experimentally in sheep. Later he found that the minipig had a more human-like jaw shape and masticatory action, and so he tested the implants in 37 mini pigs that underwent extensive mandibular re sections without bone grafting, using sequential dye injections and postoperative weight gain to chart the progress of osseous regener ation. Seven other animals were not operated and served as controls.

Book Orthodontic Diagnosis

Download or read book Orthodontic Diagnosis written by Thomas Rakosi and published by Thieme. This book was released on 1993 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated guide for the complex process of orthodontic diagnostics and indication. The total process of treatment planning including the scientific bases is pictorially described. Beside the conventional methods of examination and model analysis, emphasis is placed on the cranio-facial growth processes, the aetiology of malocclusions and on the importance of functional analysis. The following three aspects are described in detail in this book: Growth of the Facial Skeleton - types of treatment which promote or guide growth. In order to control these natural processes artificially, a precise understanding of them is required. Aetiology of the Malocclusion - the various types of causative therapy and the elimination of the causes. Functional Analysis - many malocclusions are a result of dysfunctions. As a variety of methods are available for treating dysfunctions, functional analysis is taken very seriously.

Book Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics

Download or read book Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics written by James A. McNamara and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial eight chapters provide a synthesis of the wide variety of treatments currently available for malocclusions in the sagittal, transverse, and vertical dimensions. The subsequent chapters describe the details of clinical management of fixed appliance therapy (e.g., bracket placement and design - including self-ligating brackets, orthodontic bonding, archwire sequencing, transpalatal arch and utility arch management). Dentofacial orthopedics, including rapid maxillary expansion and extraoral traction, as well as functional jaw orthopedics (Herbst, Twin Block, FR-2 of Fränkel, Bionator) and molar distalizing appliances (Pendulum, Distal Jet, Wilson distalizing arch) then are considered. The management of Class III malocclusion with the orthopedic facial mask, the chin cup and the FR-3 of Fränkel also are discussed in detail. The book also includes two extensive chapters on interdisciplinary treatment written by Vincent G. Kokich, as well as chapters on finishing and retention protocols. The clinical and cephalometric evaluation of the orthodontic patient and the relationship of orthodontic treatment, occlusion, and temporomandibular disorders also are presented. In essence, this book represents an extensive continuing education experience for the practicing orthodontist.
