Book FST TCS 2002 Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science

Download or read book FST TCS 2002 Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science written by Manindra Agrawal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of the proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on the Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2002), organized under the auspices of the Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS). The conference was held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur during December 12–14, 2002. The conference attracted 108 submissions (of which two were withdrawn). Of these, a total of 26 papers were selected for presentation in the conference. As in the last year, the PC meeting was held electronically (stretching over nearly three weeks in August 2002) and was a great success. In addition to the contributed papers, we had ?ve invited speakers this year: Hendrik Lenstra, Jr., Harry Mairson, Dale Miller, Chih-Hao Luke Ong, and Margus Veanes. We thank them for accepting our invitation and for providing abstracts (or even full papers) for the proceedings. Two workshops were organized in conjunction with the conference – both in Kanpur. A workshop on Parameterized Complexity was held during December 10–11, organized by Mike Fellows and Venkatesh Raman. The second workshop actually consisted of three miniworkshops: on Coding Theory by Madhu Sudan; on Finite Field Algorithms by Hendrik Lenstra, Jr.; and on Sieve Theory by R. Balasubramanian. We wish to thank all the reviewers and PC members who contributed greatly to making the conference a success. We also wish to thank the team at Springer- Verlag for their help in preparing the proceedings.

Book Design and Control of Workflow Processes

Download or read book Design and Control of Workflow Processes written by Hajo A. Reijers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motivation behind the conception of this monograph was to advance scientific knowledge about the design and control of workflow processes. A workflow pr- ess (or workflow for short) is a specific type of business process, a way of or- nizing work and resources. Workflows are commonly found within large admin- trative organizations such as banks, insurance companies, and governmental agencies. Carrying out the tasks of a workflow in a particular order is required to handle one type of case. Examples of cases are mortgage applications, customer complaints, and claims for unemployment benefits. A workflow used in handling mortgage applications may contain tasks for recording the application, specifying a mortgage proposal, and approving the final policy. The monograph concentrates on four workflow-related issues within the area of Business Process Management; the field of designing and controlling business processes. The first issue is how workflows can be adequately modeled. Workflow mod- ing is an indispensable activity to support any reasoning about workflows. Diff- ent purposes of workflow modeling can be distinguished, such as system ena- ment by Workflow Management Systems, knowledge management, costing, and budgeting. The focus of workflow modeling in this monograph is (a) to support simulation and analysis of workflows and (b) to specify a new workflow design. The main formalism used for the modeling of workflows is the Petri net. Many - isting notions to define several relevant properties have been adopted, such as the workflow net and the soundness notion.

  • Author : Gmelin Institut
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1993-07-02
  • ISBN : 9783540936534
  • Pages : 724 pages

Download or read book GABCOM GABMET written by Gmelin Institut and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-07-02 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scientific literature in chemistry and physics abounds with abbreviations of chemical compounds, physical methods and mathematical procedures. Unfortunately, many authors take it for granted that the reader knows the meaning of an abbreviation, something quite trivial for a specialist. For the less informed reader, these abbreviations thus present definite communication problems. The Gmelin Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Max Planck Society has collected more than 4000 abbreviations for methods and terms from chemistry, physics and mathematics and more than 4000 chemical compounds (mostly ligands in coordination chemistry and standard reagents for physical and analytical methods). GABCOM and GABMET provide an overview enabling readers and authors to check the definition of an abbreviation used by an author and to see whether this abbreviation is already being used for other purposes. GABCOM and GABMET are also in preparation in electronic form (data file and search software) for IBM-PC or compatible computers.
