Book From Then Until Now

Download or read book From Then Until Now written by Terry Stewart Homewood and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-09-21 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an accumulation of poetry from the age of 15 to 51. It is my ups and downs, my highs and lows, my happiness and sadness. There were many years nothing was written. It is hard for me to write when there is nothing to say and still write it well. At 23, I was in a horrifying car accident, in which I almost lost my daughter and myself. I had to grow up again and learn again. It was a painstaking process. Thirteen years later, I came down with bacterial spinal meningitis. The terrifying pain in my brain made me want to die, and although I asked God to take me, I finally realized that He had a different road for me to take. Now I want to be and do the best I can, no matter the road Im on. I write because I love to write. I write because there is a story to tell that maybe someone may learn from, that maybe a situation can be changed for the better, that all is not lost, at least not forever, and the days will get brighter, for with motivation and perspiration, we can move mountains. That God is always with us, that He carries us in his arms, watches us grow, and wants us to mature into loving people, for with love there is everything.

Download or read book From Then Until Now written by Maurice C. Wright and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written by me, Maurice C. Wright, as a way of sharing some of the many memories, tidbits, and other recollections that have been in my mind for many years. Through this book, I am passing these on to family, friends, and others that may be interested in reading these stories. Each memory, tidbit, and other recollection has been written to stand alone or to be read as an entire book. Therefore, the reader will find a repeat of information in multiple stories as that information is pertinent to each. Praise be to God for the many memories, tidbits, and other recollections that I am sharing through this book and for the many other stories that are still in my mind and have not been reduced to written form.

Book From Then til Now

Download or read book From Then til Now written by Carol Peterson and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have felt for many years that there have perhaps never been a 75 to 100 years that have seen so much progress and change, both for good and bad. Life has always been mixed with both good times and bad times, and so it will until the Lord returns. But this type of good and bad is not what I am writing about. In the horse and buggy era and early years of the car, there were a lot of hard times: poverty, sickness, and epidemics, but by and large, the moral fiber of most people was much better than now. There are many things to blame, but the sad part of this is that I believe the Christians are the most to blame for not getting involved. The scapegoat idea: it's all in the Lord's hands, we don't have to worry or do anything. In the meantime, much has happened because of the ACLU, our court system, the pressure of the entertainment world and the Democratic party, and too many Republicans voting wrong. It is already illegal for the kids to pray in school or even take their Bible to school. They are trying to get "In God We Trust" off our money and take for God and Country out of the Pledge of Allegiance However, I feel there is a trend now of thinking seriously about God and morals and hard work, and there will have to be if this world is going to last. So I am dedicating this to my nine children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone who reads it that it will help them see what a change has taken place in the 1900's and that it might help them on the road of life, plus hopefully bring some enjoyment.

Book excerpt: JOHN BIBLE COMMENTARY After nearly 40 years of full-time ministry, Brother Swaggart published his first commentary on the book of Genesis that was later described as “the most helpful Bible commentary ever published.” It would take nearly 20 years to complete the entire commentary series—from Genesis to Revelation. True to Pentecostal theology, the Jimmy Swaggart Commentary collection leads its readers chapter by chapter to a better understanding of the Bible. Rather than providing notes on every Bible verse, these commentaries focus on the salient verses of each chapter to offer the reader a condensed synopsis of what the Holy Spirit intended. Where most relevant, cultural and historical references are also included, along with explanations of the allegories, types, and symbolisms used in the Bible to add depth and dimension for students of the Holy Scriptures. Yet, what seems to separate this work from all other commentaries are the biblical applications made to present day circumstances facing every believer. Printed on high-quality paper and bound with a beautiful hardback cover, this unique reference will be cherished by anyone who loves to study the Word of God.

Hollan and Wellenkamp describe the central aspects of Torajan personal experience -emotion, identity, and sense of self- and a variety of fascinating cultural practices, including possession trance, kickfights, elaborate mortuary customs, dream interpretation, and buffalo sacrifice. Presenting exceptionally detailed ethnographic data through a person-centered perspective and extensive use of open-ended interviews, Contentment and Suffering engagingly expresses how the Toraja understand their lives.

Book What the Bible Really Says

Download or read book What the Bible Really Says written by Thomas A. Howe and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the End Times has been a popular topic for many years, and there are many different positions that are proposed on how to understand the unfolding of God's program. The debate over the End Times has often been heated and has failed to showcase the best that Christian scholarship has to offer. It sometimes seems like everyone wants to get in on the action, and anyone who has an audience can (and has) put together his thoughts and made his opinions known through the printed page. Anyone can publish his views regardless of the level of competency in the original languages, his level of hermeneutic ability, or his understanding of history or theology. In his book The Apocalypse Code, Hank Hanegraaff declares that his goal is to put hermeneutical tools into your hands so that you can draw from Scripture what God intends you to understand rather than uncritically accepting end-time models that may well be foreign to the text. It would be extremely helpful for someone to equip readers to be able to make their way through the maze of views. What the Bible Really Says? is a point-by-point analysis of the arguments of Hank Hanegraaff concerning end-times prophecy. This book is not an effort to promote one eschatological perspective over another. Rather it is an analysis of Hanegraaff's arguments and claims in order to discover whether or not he has succeeded in putting hermeneutical tools into the hands of his readers, or whether he has simply added his voice and his opinions to the cacophony of claims and counterclaims.

Book Radiant Joy Brilliant Love

Download or read book Radiant Joy Brilliant Love written by Clinton Callahan and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2014-11-05 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This hard-hitting and innovative book about man-woman relationship immediately challenges the deceptions about love and intimacy rampant in today’s patriarchal culture. At the same time, Radiant Joy Brilliant Love reveals a step-by-step process for discovering and living out alternative possibilities. The author claims that even the “best” of our relationships are still generally basic level; what he calls “Ordinary Human Relationship.” He asserts that two more domains remain to be explored: namely, Extraordinary Human Relationship and Archetypal Love. The book shows exactly how to enter these new domains, and how to stay there long enough to cultivate genuine intimacy, nurturance, excitement and satisfaction together. The material for this book is startlingly original and fresh, directly distilled from over thirty years of trial, error and reevaluation within seminars and trainings conducted by the author in the U.S. and Europe. The essential teaching tools are “Thought-Maps” that illustrate and guide the dynamics of evolving relationship, coupled with a series of experiments/“explorations” to be undertaken alone or with one’s partner. Topics include: What your mother never told you and your father didn’t know (about love and relationships). Making the leap from Defensive Learning to Expansive Learning. Breaking out of the relationship “Box.” The lie of being unlovable. Navigating in the realm of feelings. Communication skills for explorers.

Book The New Testament

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Straus
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-05-02
  • ISBN : 1532648774
  • Pages : 583 pages

Download or read book The New Testament written by Michael Straus and published by . This book was released on 2019-05-02 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My goal in this translation has been to bring some fresh turns of phrase to the Gospels, histories, letters, and revelatory texts already familiar to English readers and listeners, not least because they are the source of sayings and stories embedded in our language by virtue of the long dominance of the King James Version of the Bible. Although the Hebrew and Greek materials used for that version had their flaws, the quality of the English can hardly be improved upon. Some later translations relying on better materials have improved the accuracy of the text, but rarely the rhythm and force of the style. My aim is therefore not to supplant other translations so much as to shed light on obscure passages; capture aspects of the man Jesus' personality as presented distinctively in the Gospels; convey in relatively plain language Christian doctrine and experience as related in Acts and the Epistles; and reflect the atemporal nature of the Book of Revelation. I have generally aimed for fluid, contemporary language--avoiding the overly literal, freely adopting the colloquial, and taking grammatical license where the writer employed imagery not subject to standard linguistic limitations. My goal is a user-friendly translation at once enjoyable, novelistic, and at times poetic. ""Good translations take risks and let you read a familiar text as though for the first time. This irresistibly colloquial and energetic version of Christian Scripture keeps up a flow of linguistic vigor and sheds much fresh light: both the narratives of the Gospels and the arguments of the Epistles are presented with memorable vividness, and the rendering of the Book of Revelation is a genuine tour de force. There are definitely some high-risk decisions, but the overall impression is of a text that is wonderfully and confidently alive."" --Rowan Williams, Anglican bishop, former Archbishop of Canterbury ""Now more than ever, when sacred texts are too often used as weapons of terror, there is a need to make the gospel message of love and justice accessible. Michael Straus does this in his translation of the New Testament. Michael's scholarship and passion bring the New Testament alive for a skeptical world in need of a trusting word."" --Kelly Brown Douglas, Dean of Episcopal Divinity School, Union Theological Seminary ""This is a pearl of great price."" --James Diggle, Emeritus Professor of Greek and Latin, University of Cambridge ""There is no question that we live in an age when words matter. They have the power to inspire and to incite, to create and to destroy, to mobilize and to suppress. Straus has taken a text that has done all of this throughout its history and has given it fresh expression, nuanced meaning, and befitting urgency. At times he chooses literal accuracy, and at times he takes poetic license, all the while remaining faithful to original context and intent, even as he attempts to capture its relevance for this present age. This translation is not only elegantly innovative, but it also brims with the vigor and revolutionary spirit so present at the moments of its original composition. It is a gift apt for an age when words matter supremely."" --Javier A. Viera, Vice Provost, Dean of the Theological School, Drew University ""I have used this translation in my church and Bible studies and the response has been electric. The parishioners hear the Scripture being spoken to them in an entirely fresh way. In a world that hungers for authenticity, Michael Straus has blended a brilliant knowledge of Greek with a genius for the English language to produce a Holy Scripture as powerful as it is irresistible."" --Janet Broderick, All Saints Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills, California Michael Straus holds degrees in classical languages, law, and theology. He has previously published translations from Greek and Spanish. Anna Pipes is an artist based in New York.
