Book Frequency Mode Induced Polarization Studies for Geophysical Exploration in Archaeology

Download or read book Frequency Mode Induced Polarization Studies for Geophysical Exploration in Archaeology written by Susan Mary Ovenden and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is a critical investigation into the applicability of frequency domain induced polarization to archaeological sites. It establishes, briefly, the theory of induced polarization that has been developed for geological and hydrological applications. The theory behind membrane and electrode polarization phenomena is studied and the principles of time domain, frequency domain and phase measurements are discussed, together with a review of the survey techniques used. The theory and principles of frequency domain measurements were used to design and build laboratory and field equipment. The laboratory system is versatile enabling the variation of several parameters. Laboratory studies were undertaken to study the nature of induced polarization anomalies with respect to different arrays and conditions. These included the effect of varying the parameters on which induced polarization is dependent, the applicability of different array types and the comparison of resistivity, percentage frequency effect and metal factor responses. The influence of the nature of the host medium was also studied. From the development of the laboratory equipment a practical field system, with appropriate parameters, was built. Several field surveys were undertaken over various sites to study the usefulness and limitations of the method, and these are critically discussed.

Book Principles of Induced Polarization for Geophysical Exploration

Download or read book Principles of Induced Polarization for Geophysical Exploration written by J.S. Sumner and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 1976 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Economic Geology, 5: Principles of Induced Polarization for Geophysical Exploration focuses on the principles, methodologies, and approaches involved in induced polarization (IP), including anisotropism, electromagnetic coupling, and electrical circuits. The book first takes a look at resistivity principles, theory of IP, and laboratory work in IP. Concerns cover electrical measurements of rocks, anisotropism, early part of decay curve and the comparison with frequency effects, electrical models of induced polarization, electrical polarization, resistivities of earth materials, and resistivity exploration methods. The manuscript then elaborates on IP field equipment, telluric noise and electromagnetic coupling, IP field surveying, and drill-hole and underground surveying and the negative IP effect. Discussions focus on differences between surface and subsurface methods, current-sending system in the field, telluric (earth) currents, electromagnetic coupling, design considerations, coupling of electrical circuits, design considerations, and signal-generating system. The manuscript ponders on the complex-resistivity method and interpretation of induced-polarization data, including grade estimation of mineralization using the IP method, complex-resistivity survey, signal detection capabilities of the complex-resistivity method, and disadvantages of the complex-resistivity method. The text is a valuable source of information for researchers wanting to study induced polarization.

Book Dual Frequency Induced Polarization Method

Download or read book Dual Frequency Induced Polarization Method written by Jishan He and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-11-24 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dual Frequency Induced Polarization Method: An Effective Approach for Mineral Exploration provides the first English-language text on the successful but little-known dual frequency induced polarization method. Engineers and technicians in geophysical exploration will appreciate learning about this enhanced method in sections that comprehensively explain the basic principle, method, technology and application of the dual frequency induced polarization method. Chapters cover the mathematical basis, observation parameters, instrument principle, application essentials, field work methods, technology, interference factors and their overcoming methods, ore prospecting and engineering application examples, and more. In particular, the needs of frontline engineering and technical personnel are addressed in chapters specifically related to field work. Researchers, engineers and technicians working in geophysical exploration will discover a thorough and detailed description of all aspects of the dual frequency induced polarization method. Comprehensively discusses the basic principle, method, technology and application effect of dual frequency IP method Covers field work methods, techniques, interference factors and overcoming methods, ore prospecting, and engineering application examples, etc. Considers the needs of front-line engineering and technical personnel

Book Theory and Application of Spectral Induced Polarization

Download or read book Theory and Application of Spectral Induced Polarization written by Yanzhang Luo and published by SEG Books. This book was released on 1998 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors review spectral induced polarization theory and describe some of the SIP method's applications through a discussion of their research in the People's Republic of China. In the first of four chapters, they discuss the electrochemical basis of SIP, offering proof of the validity of using the Cole-Cole model for describing complex resistivity spectra. In the next chapter, which addresses the SIP forward problem, they describe the scale-modeling laws for SIP, various forward algorithms, the behavior and variation laws of SIP anomalies, and effective SIP parameters. The third chapter discusses SIP inversion methods, including several methods of calculating the intrinsic spectral parameters of a polarizable body. In the final chapter, the authors describe their field tests applying the SIP method to prospecting for orebodies and oil and gas reservoirs. The material is introduced in part through a reprinting of a 1959 paper by Volume Editor James R. Wait titled 'The Variable Frequency Method."
