Book Free Rolling Cornering Test for Truck and Bus Tires

Download or read book Free Rolling Cornering Test for Truck and Bus Tires written by Truck and Bus Tire Committee and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of heavy truck (Class VI, VII, and VIII) tire force and moment properties under cornering conditions. The properties are acquired as functions of normal force and slip angle using a sequence specified in this practice. At each normal force increment, the slip angle is continually ramped or stepped. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control. This document is intended to be a general guideline for testing on an ideal machine. Users of this SAE Recommended Practice may modify the recommended protocols to satify the needs of specific use-cases, e.g., reducing the recommended number of test loads and/or pressures for benchmarking purposes. However, due care is necessary when modifying the protocols to maintain data integrity. The purpose of this revision is to correct minor errors in the existing document and to bring the document up to date in light of developments between 2010 and 2020. The original document referenced an over-the-road test machine that has since been decommissioned and is no longer available. The document has also been updated to include new classes of hybrid testing machines, one of which tests a tire while moving it over a paved surface in a controlled environment.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of steady-state heavy truck (Class VI, VII, and VIII) tire force and moment properties under free-rolling conditions. The properties are acquired as functions of incrementally changed slip angle and normal force using a sequence specified in this document. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control. Truck Tires-For the purposes of this document, truck tires are defined as being the tires mounted on all heavy commercial over-the-road trucks and buses. Examples of vehicles which use heavy truck tires include: tractor/semi-trailer combinations, dump trucks, school buses, etc. Tires mounted on other types of lighter GVWR vehicles are explicitly excluded from consideration in this document. Effects Not Considered-The effects of inclination angle and spindle torque or any combination of inclination and spindle torque with slip angle and normal force are not considered in this document. Test Machines-This document is test machine neutral. It may be applied using any type of test machine capable of fulfilling the requirements stated in this document. By way of example, specific data used in support of various parts of this document came from both an indoor flat-belt type machine and outdoor over-the-road dynamometer. This document does not require a machine to match the ideal machine, but does require that a test machine?s performance be fully defined over its range of application. In this document, an ideal is a goal not a requirement.Ideal Machine An ideal machine is a machine which is capable of fully matching every item in this document. Such a machine neither exits at the time this document was written nor is it certain that the technology to build such a machine exists at this time.

Book Combined Cornering and Braking Test for Truck Tires

Download or read book Combined Cornering and Braking Test for Truck Tires written by Truck and Bus Tire Committee and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice describes a test method for determination of heavy truck (Class VI, VII, and VIII) tire force and moment properties under combined cornering and braking conditions. The properties are acquired as functions of slip angle, normal force, and slip ratio. Slip angle and normal force are changed incrementally using a sequence specified in this document. At each increment, the slip ratio is continually changed by application of a braking torque ramp. The data are suitable for use in vehicle dynamics modeling, comparative evaluations for research and development purposes, and manufacturing quality control.

This book was released on 1985 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice applies to the laboratory measurement of rolling resistance of pneumatic passenger car and light truck tires. The procedure applies only to the steady-state operation of free-rolling tires at zero slip and inclination angles; it includes the following three basic methods:Force Method--Measures the reaction force at the tire spindle and converts it to rolling resistance.Torque Method--Measures the torque input to the test machine and converts it to rolling resistance.Power Method--Measures the power input to the test machine and converts it to rolling resistance.

Book On Road Test Facility for Truck Tire Rolling Resistance and Bearing Losses Measurements

Download or read book On Road Test Facility for Truck Tire Rolling Resistance and Bearing Losses Measurements written by AJ. Bosik and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rig has been designed and built for the on-road measurements of rolling resistance and bearing friction losses for free-rolling tires of large trucks. The rig comprises a force bridge, axle, suspension, and two sets of dual wheel assemblies mounted on a 13.7-m (45 ft) flatbed trailer which is towed at normal highway speeds. The rig is designed to be used over a wide range of ambient temperature conditions as well as road surface types. The tire cavity temperatures are monitored and the tire inflation pressures are regulated through a slipring and rotary seal assembly. A quick-lift auxiliary axle is also mounted on the trailer for transporting the rig when no measurements are being made as well as for braking and other safety reasons. The outputs of six load cells, two inclinometers, and a tangent angle-rolling radius device are used to automatically determine the rolling resistance forces, bearing moments, and the vertical and transverse tire loads. Instantaneous values of these outputs and the outputs of temperature and pressure sensors can be monitored during testing and are recorded on an on-board computerized data acquisition system for further data reduction.
