Book Sustainable Policy Applications for Social Ecology and Development

Download or read book Sustainable Policy Applications for Social Ecology and Development written by Carayannis, Elias G. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social ecology is a philosophy rooted in deep-seated social problems, particularly in hierarchical political and social systems. Social ecologists throughout the world maintain a theory that present, ecological problems cannot be clearly understood, much less resolved, without resolutely dealing with problems within society. Therefore, social ecology locates the roots of these ecological crises firmly in the relations of domination between people. Sustainable Policy Applications for Social Ecology and Development establishes a new set of platforms for intellectual discourse and identification of critical and strategic emerging issues, the formulation of cogent and useful policies, and practice recommendations. This publication highlights provocative, but scholarly, views that diverge from the current “conventional wisdom” taking into consideration the concepts of robust competitiveness, sustainable entrepreneurship, and democratic capitalism, central to its philosophy and objectives. The aim of this book is to highlight emerging research and practice at the dynamic intersection of these fields, where individuals, organizations, industries, regions, and nations are harnessing creativity and invention to achieve and sustain growth.

Book International Trade in Services and Intangibles in the Era of Globalization

Download or read book International Trade in Services and Intangibles in the Era of Globalization written by Marshall B. Reinsdorf and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-08-01 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantitative measures of international exchange have historically focused on trade in tangible products or capital. However, services have recently become a larger portion of developed economies and international trade, and will only increase in the future. In International Trade in Services and Intangibles in the Era of Globalization, Marshall Reinsdorf and Matthew J. Slaughter examine new and emerging patterns of trade, especially the growing importance of transactions involving services or intangible assets such as intellectual property. A distinguished team of contributors analyzes the challenges involved in measuring trade in intangibles, the comparative advantages enjoyed by United States service industries, and the heightened international competition for jobs, capital investment, economic growth, and tax revenue that results from trade in services. This comprehensive volume will be necessary reading for scholars seeking to understand the rapidly changing global economy.

Book Industrial Research Performance Management

Download or read book Industrial Research Performance Management written by Tatjana Samsonowa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-19 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managers are increasingly concerned with the typical methods available for organizational performance measurement and control. Research into performance measurement, within the field of innovation management, has been variously approached through frameworks for performance measurement in general (for example, the Balanced Scorecard by Norton and Kaplan), R&D performance management, and surveys on in-use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). It is striking, however, that almost no research has focused explicitly on the performance measurement of research activities, or indeed tried to develop a systematic approach to setting KPIs for specific research goals. This work, in co-operation with ABB Research, Deutsche Telekom AG Laboratories, EMC2 Advanced Technology Solutions, IBM Research, Intel Research, Microsoft Research, Philips Research, and SAP Research, develops a systematic approach to performance measurement for industrial research organizations in innovation-driven companies. The following questions are addressed: (1) Which research goals do research departments have? (2) Which KPIs do they use to monitor the achievement of these goals? (3) Is there a systematic best-practice approach to selecting KPIs for performance goals? The outcome is a complete set of eleven performance clusters, such as the transfer of research results to the development or other organizational departments, and each cluster has its own set of KPIs. The eleven clusters are: Technology Transfer, Future Business Opportunities, Technical Achievements, Intellectual Property, Operational Excellence, Talent Pool, Image, Publications, Presence in Scientific Community, Collaboration with Academia, Collaboration with Partners and Customers. This work led to the creation of the Institute for Industrial Research Performance Management that provides ongoing research and insights for managers of industrial research organizations.

Download or read book Practice Led Theology written by Neil K. Ferguson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following a series of economic and political changes in the late 1980s, art/design schools and performing arts academies were incorporated into the university system. To justify their teachings as academic research, they developed the idea of practice‐led research. Practice-led research recognizes two or more languages—that is, the validity of both explicit/propositional knowledge and embodied/tacit knowledge—allowing for the researcher’s corresponding output, expressed through both the written word and relevant practice. Christians often find themselves living a life of two languages: a set of intellectual beliefs and the practice of being a Christian. This book develops this methodology and translates it for use in theological research. Most importantly, it clearly develops key elements of this methodology using a comprehensive model and detailed definitions. This is a book which not only presents a fully articulated and flexible model of practice‐led research, but also presents Christian researchers with an approach they could incorporate into their theological work.
