Book excerpt: Bacon's most intimate friends, and correspondents seem to have been all either Rosicrucians, Freemasons or Illuminati, as, in Italy and parts of Germany, they were some times called. Their names continually appear in connection with the works produced under the auspices of these societies; their portraits often include the recognised marks of distinction; their very graves comply with the rules of the section of the society to which they belonged. It is not concluded, from the evidence which has been collected, that Bacon originated secret societies, or that there were no religious fraternities or trade guilds, before his time, possessing secrets which they kept for mutual help and protection. On the contrary, all evidence goes to show that such institutions did exist, in a rude and inefficient condition; that in all probability Sir Nicolas Bacon and others had conceived a thought of attempting to consolidate or erect some such society, for the purpose of reviving learning, and of promoting unity in religion. But it remained for the genius, energy, and untiring devotion of Francis Bacon to accomplish these things, and he seems to have been peculiarly educated for the purpose. The Rosicrucians and the Freemasons speak in their books of the necessity for a "univesal language''. This language is to be partly by sings, but also largely by symbols or emblems. It is the language of the "Renaissance''. A collation of passages shows that all the metaphors, similes, and emblems of the Rosicrucians and Masons, and all of the works which we connect with them, are included in the works of Bacon. The greater contains the less, and the language is his. No one has since improved upon it, although many have paraphrased and diluted his words, as well as his original thoughts.

Book Francis Bacon and His Secret Society

Download or read book Francis Bacon and His Secret Society written by Constance Pott and published by SEVERUS Verlag. This book was released on 2011 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is certain that, although much is known about Francis Bacon in some parts or phases of his chequered life, yet there is a great deal more which is obscure, or very inadequately treated by his biographers." "For instance, what was he doing or where was he travelling during certain unchronicled years? Why do we hear so little in modern books of that beloved brother Anthony, who was his 'comfort, ' and his 'second self'? And where was Anthony when he died? Where was he buried? And why are no particulars of his eventful life, his last illness, death, or burial recorded in ordinary books?" Francis Bacon (1561-1626): philosopher, playwright, poet, and conceiver of the scientific method for empirical inquiry. The staggering amount of publications in which he was involved and his demand for a worldwide reformation of learning, science, and religion have made him one of the most important minds of the Elizabethan era. As much as Bacon's public life influenced the world of science, there is an equal part of his life obscured by his secrecy. This book sets out to delve into these secrets in order to uncover the full extent of Bacon's work. His self-devised secret cipher, his apparent connections to the Rosicrucians and Freemasons, and the frequent gaps in his biography are thoroughly examined, making this a valuable addition to any Baconian collection.

Book Secret Societies and Classic Literature

Download or read book Secret Societies and Classic Literature written by John T. Caswell and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secret Societies and Classic Literature is about much more than the connections between some of the greatest authors in literary history and the covert organizations they were associated with. It also encompasses sacred geometry, science, the ancient wisdom those authors drew on for their inspiration, and how that wisdom is so relevant in contemporary society. It is about prophets, their visions, and the probable stimulus for their vivid imaginations and creative genius. It is also about political intrigue and upheaval, outlaws, outcasts, sexual scandals, espionage, and hallucinogenic substances. Why does the number nine indicate the possible intelligent design of the universe? Why are snakes worshiped in ancient cultures that were separated by thousands of miles? How did Jonathan Swift predict Mars's two moons a century and a half before their existence was confirmed? Did Christopher Marlowe plot to overthrow Queen Elizabeth, and how and why was he killed? Did William Blake's vision of the universe's creation mirror that of lost Gnostic texts that were undiscovered until 1945? What was Francis Bacon's true relationship to William Shakespeare and his works? This book takes a closer look at all these questions and reveals much more about the authors and the intriguing lives they led en route to literary immortality.
