Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the powerful, rhythmic sounds of Aboriginal English and Kokatha language woven through the narrative, Mazin Grace is the inspirational story of a feisty girl who refuses to be told who she is, determined to uncover the truth for herself. Growing up on the Mission isn’t easy for clever Grace Oldman. When her classmates tease her for not having a father, she doesn’t know what to say. Pappa Neddy says her dad is the Lord God in Heaven, but that doesn’t help when the Mission kids call her a bastard. As Grace slowly pieces together clues that might lead to answers, she struggles to find a place in a community that rejects her for reasons she doesn’t understand. In this novel, author Dylan Coleman fictionalizes her mother’s childhood at the Koonibba Lutheran Mission in South Australia in the 1940s and 1950s.
Download or read book Towards a New Map of Automobile Manufacturing in Europe written by Ray Hudson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the product of four years of collaborative work within the framework of the European Science Foundation's Regional and Urban Restructuring in Europe (RURE) programme. With one exception, all of the chapters have been prepared by participants in RURE - the exception being that commissioned from Conti and Enrietti on Fiat and Italy to provide a fuller coverage of changes in the main automobile producing companies and countries of Europe. A - perhaps the - central theme around which the RURE programme was conceived is that the restructuring of the production system lies at the heart of the changing map of Europe. Equally, it continues to be the case that the automobile industry lies at the cutting edge of the search for viable new models of production. Some eighty years ago the automobile industry occupied a pivotal position in the transition from craft to mass production - indeed "Fordism" came to denote not just a particular micro-economic model of production organisation in the factory but a macro-scale model of economic development, characterized by a particular pattern of relations between mass production, mass consumption and national state regulation. From the late 1960s, however, it became increasingly clear that Fordism as a macro-scale model of advanced capitalist development was reaching its limits.

Book excerpt: Crime Scene Photography is a book wrought from years of experience, with material carefully selected for ease of use and effectiveness in training, and field tested by the author in his role as a Forensic Services Supervisor for the Baltimore County Police Department. While there are many books on non-forensic photography, none of them adequately adapt standard image-taking to crime scene photography. This book blends the practical functions of crime scene processing with theories of photography to guide the reader in acquiring the skills, knowledge and ability to render reliable evidence. - Required reading by the IAI Crime Scene Certification Board for all levels of certification - Contains over 500 photographs - Covers the concepts and principles of photography as well as the "how to" of creating a final product - Includes end-of-chapter exercises

Download or read book Processing Vehicles Used in Violent Crimes for Forensic Evidence written by Christopher D. Duncan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there are numerous books on crime scene investigation and the processing of crime scenes, few focus on the processing of vehicles. Whether the crime took place in the car or the car was used to transport the suspect or victim—and, as such, is a secondary scene—investigating vehicles presents several unique challenges. Processing Vehicles Used in Violent Crimes for Forensic Evidence fills this void providing the technical instruction sorely needed in this area of crime scene investigation. The book is geared not only to investigators who process vehicles involved in general crimes but also with a specific focus on violent crimes. Coverage includes details as to how investigators should document the vehicle in a logical and methodical manner that is easily understood and replicated for various scenes. By identifying the unique challenges caused by working in the tight quarters of a vehicle—especially in photographing the vehicle, the evidence within it, and how to best find, collect, document, and preserve the evidence—the author provides a unique reference for investigators. Special attention is paid to documenting shooting incidents, the proper detailing and documentation of bullet trajectories, bloodstain documentation, and processing vehicles for other biological, impression, and physical evidence. Key Features Presents crime scene collection and preservation techniques and methodology specific to vehicle-related considerations Outlines the unique challenges, and step-by-step procedural requirements, necessary to conduct a vehicle or vehicle-related scene investigation Addresses types of various evidence for vehicles—including fingerprint, blood, DNA, bullet and casing, and fire debris—which are common primary or secondary crime scenes While the book is geared toward crime scene investigators and forensic technicians who process vehicles used in crimes, it will be an invaluable resource for criminal justice and forensic science students, attorneys, death investigators, fire investigators, accident scene investigators, and scene reconstructionists.

Book excerpt: The popular definition characterizes celebrity as a product of manufacture rather than merit. If fame is taken to represent the recognition of achievement, then modern celebrity, in contrast, must be based on something other than achievement, for celebrity and fame are not the same thing. This book explores the process by which celebrity is created, using the first seven seasons of Fox Television's American Idol as a framework for analysis of how celebrity is defined, generated, nurtured, and intensified.
