Book Flow Aware Admission Control Protocol for QoS Provisioning in MANETs

Download or read book Flow Aware Admission Control Protocol for QoS Provisioning in MANETs written by Muhammad Asif and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), mobile nodes communicate over an error prone wireless channel without any centralized control. MANETs have n9 fixed topology because mobile nodes can freely join or leave the network at any time. As a consequence, it is difficult to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) in these networks. The current routing , protocols provide only best effort services to the applications. Multimedia communications become very popular and require various types of QoS guarantee from the network such as guranteed throughput, bounded end-to-end delay. The QoS-aware routing (QA) and Admission Control (AC) protocols try to address the issue of QoS to some extent. In this work, a novel Flow Aware Admission Control (FAAC) protocol is designed to assure the guaranteed throughput to data sessions. It utilizes the route cache of routing protocol and devises a new admission technique to accept or reject data session to the network. It is partially coupled with the Oynamic Source Routing (OSR) protocol as it has used the basic functionality of route search of the OSR protocol. The protocol has two phases: (i) route discovery and (ii) test the route nodes resources for a data session entry. The performance evaluations show that the protocol outperforms the existing best effort routing and QAR and AC protocols such as OSR and Contention Aware Admission Control (CACP) protocols in providing QoS in MANETs. Mobility is a big challenge to assure guaranteed throughput to data sessions. To address this issue, we have designed F AAC-Multipath protocol that uses multiple routes for data transmission. The protocol maintains two tested routes for each data session and devises new fast switching mechanisms that switch the data flow from one route to another to guarantee the throughput. Multimedia applications require guaranteed throughput as well as bounded end-to-end delay. To address this issue we.have designed Flow Aware Admission Control-Multipath with Multiple constraints (F AAC-MM). This protocol assures the application with guaranteed throughput as well as bounded end-to-end delay. FAAC-MM switches the data flow from primary to secondary route on the basis of achieved throughput and end-to-end delay. We have also analyzed and compared the proposed protocols with the state of the art protocols such as CACP and Multi-path for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. The simulation results show that our protocol outperforms the above mentioned protocols.

Book Guide to Flow Aware Networking

Download or read book Guide to Flow Aware Networking written by Jerzy Domżał and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a comprehensive view on Flow-Aware Networking. It starts with a brief overview of the known QoS architectures based on the concept of a flow. Then, the original FAN concept is presented, along with its variations proposed by the authors. The next chapter covers a very valuable feature of the FAN architecture, namely its ability to assure net neutrality. The chapters that follow will discuss, in detail, a variety of issues making the FAN concept implementable, including congestion control, fairness, resilience to failures, service differentiation and degradation. The final chapter presents the test implementation of the FAN router, including the environment used and performance tests. Chapters are supplemented with problems to solve, along with their solutions. The pedagogical character of the book is supported by a number of illustrative examples contained in most of the chapters. At the end of the book, a glossary of the key terms is included, along with a comprehensive bibliography. Flow-based traffic management is currently becoming a mainstream. There is plenty of Quality of Service (QoS) techniques based on flows. Software-Defined Networking with its dominant protocol OpenFlow also follows this trend. Flow-Aware Networking (FAN) is a promising QoS architecture. Information on FAN can be found in various research papers. It is, therefore highly scattered. This book gathers practically all relevant information regarding FAN and puts it together. Quality of Service assurance is one of the key challenges of today’s Internet. The existing approaches to provide QoS do not meet expectations of network operators, managers and users although numerous efforts in this area have been reported. One of the most promising concepts is the Flow-Aware Network (FAN). FAN can play a key role in assuring the net neutrality, smoothly combining interests of all the involved parties. The authors of the proposal have been involved in FAN research practically since its inception at the start of the 21st century. The book reports the wide experiences the authors accumulated in the subject area during the work on common FAN-related projects conducted with the team of James Roberts that proposed the original FAN concept as well as other leading research groups in Europe and the USA. One of the aims of the book is to accompany courses taught by the authors.

Book Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Medium Access Control in Wireless Networks written by Hongyi Wu and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless technologies and applications are becoming one of the fastest growing and most promising areas in recent years. To accommodate data transmission by multiple stations sharing the scarce wireless bandwidth, a medium access control (MAC) protocol plays a crucial role in scheduling packet transmission fairly and efficiently. The emerging wireless networks, such as ad-hoc networks, sensor networks or mesh networks, are mostly multi-hop based and in distributed manner, which brings a lot of problems and challenges in designing fine-tuned MAC protocols tailored for modern wireless network. In this book, the authors give complete and in-depth overviews to the classic medium access control algorithms and the related protocols, as well as their applications in various wireless data networks especially the most successful Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). The book consists of three major parts. Part I of this book, including Chapters 1-7, is emphasising on the fundamentals of medium access control algorithms and protocols. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the wireless networks, such as overview of wireless networks, problems and challenges of the wireless networks, and the classifications of MAC protocols as well as the performance metrics. Chapter 2 introduces important collision resolution algorithms applied in medium access controls, for example, the splitting algorithm and the backoff algorithm. Chapter 3 reviews the hybrid access control algorithms that combine both contention and allocation schemes. A series of important collision avoidance schemes are introduced in Chapters 4-7 respectively, with a specific design goal covered in each chapter. Chapter 4 focuses on the multi-channel MAC protocols for collision avoidance; Chapter 5 introduces the concepts of power control and power management in medium access control and how they can be applied in MAC protocol design; Chapter 6 presents how to provide Quality-of- Service (QoS) to multimedia wireless networks, in either centralised or distributed manner; and Chapter 7 explains how the smart antennas can be applied in the medium access control to provide high channel throughput and low packet collision.

Book Adaptive Call Admission Control for QoS Provisioning in WiMAX

Download or read book Adaptive Call Admission Control for QoS Provisioning in WiMAX written by Romesh Laishram and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need to support ubiquitous connectivity with higher data rate for mobile computers and communication devices are fuelling a growing interest in broadband wireless access (BWA) networks. WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access ), a technology based on IEEE 802.16 is a standard for Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (Wireless MAN) which aims to provide broadband access in the "last mile" with QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees for heterogeneous class of services with different QoS requirements. The QoS requirements are given in terms of bandwidth, latency, jitter, reliability etc. Although IEEE 802.16 standard defined the QoS parameters, they do not specify how these QoS parameters are satisfied and it is an open issue for research. This book analyses the design of Adaptive Call Admission Control (CAC) scheme for QoS provisioning in IEEE 802.16 based WiMAX networks. This book will be helpful to post graduate students and especially to those who want to continue research in call admission control aspect of WiMAX networks and other cellular based networks.
