Book Management Performance and Applications of Micro Irrigation Systems

Download or read book Management Performance and Applications of Micro Irrigation Systems written by Megh R. Goyal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management, Performance, and Applications of Micro Irrigation Systems, the fourth volume in the Research Advances in Sustainable Micro Irrigation series, emphasizes sustainable and meaningful methods of irrigation to counter rampant water scarcity. In many parts of the world, this scarcity significantly affects crop yield, crop quality, and, consequently, human quality of life. This important volume presents the best management practices in sustainable micro irrigation, with the goal of increasing crop yield and quality and conserving water. The practices described are practical and attainable and are based on research and studies from many areas of the world, including India, South Africa, and other areas. The applications described can be adapted and applied to many regions with a critical need to address the water crisis in crop production. The practices and applications presented include: • Partial root-zone surface drip irrigation • Effective maintenance techniques • Web-based irrigation scheduling • Water use efficiency methods • The use of flushing and filtration systems This valuable book is a must for those struggling to find ways to address the need to maintain efficient crop production in the midst of water shortages. With chapters from hands-on experts in the field, the book will be an invaluable reference and guide to effective micro irrigation methods.

Book Sweet Reinforced and Fortified Wines

Download or read book Sweet Reinforced and Fortified Wines written by Fabio Mencarelli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wines from Grape Dehydration is the first of its kind in the field of grape dehydration - the controlled drying process which produces a special group of wines. These types of wine are the most ancient, made in the Mediterranean basin, and are even described in Herodotus. Until few years ago, it was thought that these wines – such as Pedro Ximenez, Tokai, Passito, and Vin Santo – were the result of simple grape drying, because the grapes were left in the sun, or inside greenhouses that had no controls over temperature, relative humidity or ventilation. But Amarone wine, one of the most prized wines in the world, is the first wine in which the drying is a controlled process. This controlled process – grape dehydration – changes the grape at the biochemical level, and involves specialist vine management, postharvest technology and production processes, which are different from the typical wine-making procedure. After a history of grape dehydration, the book is then divided into two sections; scientific and technical. The scientific section approaches the subjects of vineyard management and dehydration technology and how they affect the biochemistry and the quality compounds of grape; as well as vinification practices to preserve primary volatiles compounds and colour of grape. The technical section is devoted to four main classes of wine: Amarone, Passito, Pedro Ximenez, and Tokai. The book then covers sweet wines not made by grape dehydration, and the analytical/sensorial characteristics of the wines. A concluding final chapter addresses the market for these special wines. This book is intended for wineries and wine makers, wine operators, postharvest specialists, vineyard managers/growers, enology/wine students, agriculture/viticulture faculties and course leaders and food processing scientists

Book Production Wine Analysis

Download or read book Production Wine Analysis written by Bruce W. Zoecklein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is designed to acquaint the reader with the commonly used procedures of juice and wine analysis as they are generally practiced in the industry, and as they are taught in the Department of Enology at California State University, Fresno. It is assumed that the reader has a basic preparation in the fields of chemistry and microbiology. In developing material for this text, the authors have emphasized analyses as they would be carried out in a production laboratory. Realizing that different laboratories have different analytical capabilities, personnel as well as equip ment, we have in many instances provided several different approaches to the same analysis. Throughout this book we have attempted to give special attention to practical considerations and the importance of these analyses in the total spectrum of winery operations. We hope the book's format will satisfy the inter ests oflaboratory personnel as well as winemakers. The process of making wine involves a series of concerns for the winemaker and staff of a winery. The first concerns are viticultural. Upon arrival of the fruit, its quality is assessed, grapes are processed and fermentation is begun. Almost immediately, and in many instances simultaneously, chemical and microbiological stability of the young and/or aging wine become important. Finally, problems do occur on occasion, and a number of what may be consid ered remedial techniques can be employed to produce an acceptable product.

Book The Cultivation of the Native Grape and Manufacture of American Wines

Download or read book The Cultivation of the Native Grape and Manufacture of American Wines written by George Husmann and published by . This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1866, this was among the very first books in America on the subject of wine production. The author, George Husmann, was a German immigrant, civil war veteran, Missouri resident, and one of Americas leading experts on wine. He founded the first national magazine devoted to wine, and believed that good wine could be produced in America. He achieved international renown in the late 1870's when he helped saved vineyards in France devastated by root louse, by shipping his resistant American stock to France. Although many works on the subject of growing wine have been written in recent years, this remains a classic. It was written as a practical how-to guide for anyone interested in growing grapes and creating their own vineyard. Much of the advice is still pertinent and especially relevant to bio dynamic and organic vineyards today. INTRODUCTION GRAPE CULTURE. PROPAGATION OF THE VINE. Book Grape Culture Wines and Wine Making

Download or read book Grape Culture Wines and Wine Making written by Agoston Haraszthy and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Grape Culture, Wines, and Wine-Making: With Notes Upon Agriculture and Horticulture I submit this work to the kind indulgence of the people of California. The short time allowed me to complete a work of such magnitude and importance will, I hope, serve as a partial excuse for its defects. To make a tour through a large portion of Europe - examine and collect information - select vines and trees - write the following work, with many of the extracts translated from eminent foreign authors and reports of scientific committees, I was allowed, including my journey to Europe and my return, but seven months and twenty-five days. The task was augmented by extensive and necessary correspondence with government officials, scientific societies, and eminent writers. During this time I have allowed myself little time for rest or recreation; and if I have succeeded in fulfilling my duty to my State and to her people, I shall feel myself amply rewarded. I plead for a lenient judgment on the work on account of my defective English, being a native of Hungary, although a naturalized American citizen, which will, I hope, fully explain this unavoidable defect. That my readers will understand my meaning without difficulty is all that I dare hope. The translations contained in the work were, in most cases, necessarily literal, and therefore presented difficulties not easily overcome. With these explanations, the author presents his work to the agricultural public, sincerely hoping that future experience may not belie present promises, but that the matter upon which it treats may prove a valuable and an enduring source of wealth to the American horticulturist and farmer.
