Book Fire Growth Maps for the 1988 Greater Yellowstone Area Fires

Download or read book Fire Growth Maps for the 1988 Greater Yellowstone Area Fires written by Richard C. Rothermel and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daily fire growth maps display the growth of the 1988 fires in the Greater Yellowstone Area. Information and data sources included daily infrared photography flights, satellite imagery, ground and aerial reconnaissance, command center intelligence, and the personal recollections of fire behavior observers. Fire position was digitized from topographic maps using GRASS GIS software to construct a file of daily fire location in vector format, later converted to raster format for further analysis. The data base is available in electronic form.

Book Wildland Fire Danger Estimation and Mapping

Download or read book Wildland Fire Danger Estimation and Mapping written by Emilio Chuvieco and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a wide range of techniques for extracting information from satellite remote sensing images in forest fire danger assessment. It covers the main concepts involved in fire danger rating, and analyses the inputs derived from remotely sensed data for mapping fire danger at both the local and global scale. The questions addressed concern the estimation of fuel moisture content, the description of fuel structural properties, the estimation of meteorological danger indices, the analysis of human factors associated with fire ignition, and the integration of different risk factors in a geographic information system for fire danger management.

Book Yellowstone s Rebirth by Fire

Download or read book Yellowstone s Rebirth by Fire written by Karen Wildung Reinhart and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In text and photographs, Reinhart examines the 1988 Yellowstone fires and their aftermath: smoke-shrouded skies, flaming forests, and fireballs that have been replaced by wildflowers, aspen stands, and rare Bicknell's geraniums. Reinhart also explores what the answers are to the burning questions of 1988: Would fire kill Yellowstone's forests? Would wildlife populations recover? Would Yellowstone itself recover?

Book FARSITE Fire Area Simulator model Development and Evaluation

Download or read book FARSITE Fire Area Simulator model Development and Evaluation written by Mark A. Finney and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer simulation model, FARSITE, includes existing fire behavior models for surface, crown, spotting, point-source fire acceleration, and fuel moisture. The model's components and assumptions are documented. Simulations were run for simple conditions that illustrate the effect of individual fire behavior models on two-dimensional fire growth.

Download or read book Understanding Nature written by Louise M. Weber and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Nature is a new kind of ecology textbook: a straightforward resource that teaches natural history and ecological content, and a way to instruct students that will nurture both Earth and self. While meeting the textbook guidelines set forth by the Ecological Society of America, Understanding Nature has a unique ecotherapy theme, using a historical framework to teach ecological theory to undergraduates. This textbook presents all the core information without being unnecessarily wordy or lengthy, using simple, relatable language and discussing ecology in ways that any student can apply in real life. Uniquely, it is also a manual on how to improve one’s relationship with the Earth. This is accomplished through coverage of natural history, ecology, and applications, together with suggested field activities that start each chapter and thinking questions that end each chapter. The book includes traditional ecological knowledge as well as the history of scientific ecological knowledge. Understanding Nature teaches theory and applications that will heal the Earth. It also teaches long-term sustainability practices for one’s psyche. Professor Louise Weber is both an ecologist and a certified ecopsychologist, challenging ecology instructors to rethink what and how they teach about nature. Her book bridges the gap between students taking ecology to become ecologists and those taking ecology as a requirement, who will use the knowledge to become informed citizens.
