Book Fire Department Strategic Planning to Support Municipal Master Planning and Ensure Quality Fire Protection

Download or read book Fire Department Strategic Planning to Support Municipal Master Planning and Ensure Quality Fire Protection written by John Kittelson and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of planning takes on many variations of degrees and styles. Often, the lack of planning has been evident in marking the effective progress of an organization. The fire service has been no different. The fire service has been traditionally oriented, good in terms of maintaining records, and fair to weak in planning to meet their future operational needs. That has left the fire service somewhat short in defense of hatchet swinging politicians with limited knowledge of effective fire service operations. The nature of the problem addressed by this research paper is the lack of effective planning on the part of the Sheyboygan Fire Department to meet the challenges presented by the municipal master plan.

Book Fire Department Strategic Planning 3rd Edition

Download or read book Fire Department Strategic Planning 3rd Edition written by Mark Wallace and published by Fire Engineering Books. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author: This 3rd edition is about organized common sense in the fire service. Section One provides support to fire departments that already have a strategic plan and just need to update and revise their existing plan. I have found over my 30 years of consulting with fire department’s that they want to accomplish their next iteration of their strategic plan as rapidly as possible. Section Two provides a detailed “How-to” guide to help a fire department create its first strategic plan. Section Two is divided into four parts: (1) Understanding the Department, (2) Understanding the Situation, (3) Understanding the Strategic Issues Facing the Department, and (4) Creating Organizational Change. A new chapter (Chapter 20) provides assistance to those departments having challenges with their strategic plan and obtaining the desired outcomes/results. It adds a new troubleshooting process for those departments having challenges to create an effective and successful strategic plan. The book is designed to be effective as a manual to develop an individual fire department’s strategic plan as well as a textbook for use in upper division college/university courses or as a text for post-graduate courses.

Book Strategic Planning and Management for Library Managers

Download or read book Strategic Planning and Management for Library Managers written by Joseph R. Matthews and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2005-05-30 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Libraries enter into strategic planning by a variety of routes, from dynamic technology and rising costs to budget cuts and pressure for change. In this book, Joe Matthews guides library managers towards a greater understanding of the role and attendant responsibilities of strategic planning. Academic, public, and special librarians alike will benefit from Matthews' cogent explanations, real-life examples, and time-tested recommendations. In the process, Matthews addresses such intrinsic questions as: Why is it important that I add strategic thinking to my managerial arsenal? How will strategic planning benefit my library, and is there more than one way to go about it? What is the best way of monitoring and updating our strategic plan for maximum effect? In each case, he debunks false impressions, attends to the goal of providing good service, and identifies at least one new way to communicate the library's strategic importance in the lives of its customers. Academic, public, and special librarians alike will benefit from Matthews' cogent explanations, real-life examples, and time-tested recommendations.

Book Are You Considering Master Planning

Download or read book Are You Considering Master Planning written by Peter S. Polarek and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In DeKalb, Illinois, the demand for emergency services has increased over the past twenty years from providing fire suppression and basic medical care services to providing a variety of customer services: fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical services, hazardous materials first response, fire prevention, fire investigation, and public education activities. In addition, the requests for emergency services has risen an average of 4.5 percent per year. In the last eight years the department placed into service a truck company in 1990, opened a third fire station in 1994, and in 1996, a fourth ambulance was upgraded to Advanced Life Support (ALS) level care. During this evolution, the total number of line firefighters has increased only by six, bringing the total number of line firefighters to forty eight. Today, the DeKalb Fire Service is a lean, effective emergency service delivery agency. During this period, we have become increasingly concerned for personnel training, maintenance of emergency responding apparatus and fire stations. In the last decade, selected efforts at "short" range planning have begun to address fire apparatus replacement, fire apparatus regular routine maintenance, fire station facility location and maintenance. The nature of the problem is to: 1. Identify the benefits of master planning. 2. Identify the need for master planning and the essential elements to be included in the planning process. 3. Determine the percentage of U.S. Fire Departments that are master planning. 4. Identify the reasons that fire departments have not developed master plans. 5. Identify the critical needs that should be included in the DeKalb Fire Department Master Plan. The planning for providing services is extremely critical as we meet the challenges of a growing community with limited revenues. DeKalb's Fire Department must not only meet the public demands today, but must plan for the future. It is the focus of this research project to examine the options available for master planning and to determine the best way to develop the DeKalb Fire Department Master Plan. The primary research method is descriptive research. The research was accomplished through a review of the literature and a survey of U.S. Fire Departments. This research project will provide a local historical perspective on the department, identify factors or conditions that effect the fire department, highlight short term planning efforts, and identify the importance of planning and review master planning processes. After review and discussion of the literature and the survey data ... recommendations are offered. [STAR#: 14616].

Book Strategy of Firefighting

Download or read book Strategy of Firefighting written by Vincent Dunn and published by Fire Engineering Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a "how to" book written by a "know how" person for anyone who practices firefighting strategy. Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn is passing on to the next generation of firefighters the lessons ("strategy summaries") he learned from his years of firefighting experience. He describes firefighting strategies for the most common types of fire scenarios and identifies specific firefighting problems presented to an incident commander by occupancy and construction type. More importantly, he explains firefighting solutions and offers firefighting plans, standard procedures, action plans, ideas, guidelines, explanations, key steps, and systems of firefighting procedures. This book is not about tactics. It's about strategy - plans of firefighting, logical ways to solve problems at fires.
