This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When hope is lost, this author believes that the Cross Lights the Way to eternal life. Romans 15:13. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” It is the goal of this author to project a living hope of the fulfillment of all the promises presented in the gospel. The hope of His calling. (Ephesians 1:18;4:4) In our fallen and corrupted world when COVID-19 has continued to change the dynamics of social, physical, economic, and ecumenical interaction; and when many people are experiencing poverty, evictions, death, disasters, hunger, injustice, wars, and conflicting feelings and issues of uncertainties, we need a new projection of hope. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and save the crushed in spirit. See Psalm 34:17–18. It is the belief of this writer that God will hear your prayers and your cries, as you begin the process of rebuilding your life of overcoming your pain, fears, and disbelief due to the loss of your mother, your father, your child, or a member of your family or some dear friend due to COVID-19. Recovery to a new life is not easy when your dreams are shattered and when not an earthly soul will listen to your cries, but there is hope. Yes, it is the living hope in Jesus Christ when you focus your eyes on the cross. Jesus claims that he is your only link between you and God the father. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:4). 19

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fear Worry Stress These emotions can overwhelm and consume us. They fill our minds with unanswerable questions. What will I lose…my health? my family? my job? my home? Will our lives ever be normal again? What is “normal”? We live in a sin-sick world. Catastrophes surround us, but we can surrender our fears to Jesus. He is the answer to overwhelming fears that consume our energy, rob our joy, and ruin our health. Fear is an emotion. Faith is an attitude, and focus is a choice. Fear must give way to faith as we adjust our focus. If our eyes are focused on the problem, fear will overcome us. If our eyes are fixed upon Jesus, the emotion of fear may still be present, but it will not cripple us. Fear will no longer dominate our lives. Discover with Pastor Mark Finley as he shows us that we have One who is larger than our fears, bigger than our worries, and greater than our anxieties by our side, and He has practical, down-to-earth, real solutions to our problems. We have the assurance of the One who said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Book Night Call

  • Author : Robert Wicks
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2017-09-01
  • ISBN : 0190669640
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Night Call written by Robert Wicks and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caring for our family members, friends, and others is a central part of a rewarding life. For those in healing and helping professions such as medicine, nursing, education, psychotherapy, social work, ministry, and the military, the potential for a meaningful way of being may even become more possible. But, compassion is not easy. At times, concern for others can be personally devastating when we don't possess the right attitude and approach. Reaching out (and reflectively within) without being pulled down requires the wisdom that only arises out of the right combination of humility and knowledge. Night Call offers the stories and principles gleaned over many years of writing and mentoring for those in the helping and healing professions. The stories are offered in ways that foster compassionate caring while encouraging initiative in those who seek to personally deepen and share their lives with others -- especially in times of significant need. With this in mind, Dr. Wicks presents information on: · being a healing presence · mining fruits of the failures all of us must experience at times · the need to enjoy the daily "crumbs of alonetime" · the importance of a spirit of "unlearning" · developing a simple realistic self-care program · valuing informal or formal mentoring · recognizing the "3 calls" to which we must respond to as we psychologically develop · honoring life's most elusive psychological virtue (humility) Purposely brief, the chapters, as well as the sections in the "personal resiliency retreat" section at the end of the book, have as their goal a reconsideration of values, signature strengths, and simple approaches to living a resilient, rewarding life. Rather than presenting new breakthroughs, Night Call is designed to dust off what most of us already know, at some level, so we can freshly view the key approaches and techniques that provide increased psychological self-awareness and a potentially healthier sense of presence to others. The themes offered may have been forgotten, or become undervalued/set aside because of some of society's dysfunctional norms or unhelpful family influences. In response, this simple, countercultural book combines the value of essential self-compassion with caring for others in ways that provide the impetus for further exploration of a fuller narrative for both the readers of this work and unforeseen opportunities as well for those who are fortunate enough to cross their paths.

Phil is a contemporary mystic, a man whose life is a living commitment to spiritual service. I am honored to know him. And we all need them. As we make our way along the spiritual path, with all its perplexities, complexities, mysteries, and ambiguities, these trusted companions can provide reliable, timeless guidance. However, as you read the book carefully, you will be pleasantly surprised to discover that it actually provides a detailed road map for your spiritual quest for a meaningful and harmonious life. Here lies the genius of Bolsta-he makes the profound look simple and his simple steps can lead to profound changes in individuals and society. Dr. Paul Wong, author of "The Human Quest for Meaning" One of the most important books I've ever read. An incredible compilation of spiritual wisdom and insight. Download or read book Hope Dies Last written by Studs Terkel and published by New Press/ORIM. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America’s most inspirational voices, in their own words: “If you’re looking for a reason to act and dream again, you’ll find it in the pages of this book” (Chicago Tribune). Published when Studs Terkel was ninety-one years old, this astonishing oral history tackles one of the famed journalist’s most elusive subjects: Hope. Where does it come from? What are its essential qualities? How do we sustain it in the darkest of times? An alternative, more personal chronicle of the “American century,” Hope Dies Last is a testament to the indefatigable spirit that Studs has always embodied, and an inheritance for those who, by taking a stand, are making concrete the dreams of today. A former death row inmate who served nearly twenty years for a crime he did not commit discusses his never-ending fight for justice. Tom Hayden, author of The Port Huron Statement, contemplates the legacy of 1960s student activism. Liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith reflects on the enduring problem of corporate malfeasance. From a doctor who teaches his young students compassion to the retired brigadier general who flew the Enola Gay over Hiroshima, these interviews tell us much about the power of the American dream and the force of individuals who advocate for a better world. With grace and warmth, Terkel’s subjects express their secret hopes and dreams. Taken together, this collection of interviews tells an inspiring story of optimism and persistence, told in voices that resonate with the eloquence of conviction. “The value of Hope Dies Last lies not in what it teaches readers about its narrow subject, but in the fascinating stories it reveals, and the insight it allows into the vast range of human experience.” —The A.V. Club “Very Terkelesque—by now the man requires an adjective of his own.” —Margaret Atwood, The New York Times Review of Books “An American treasure.” —Cornel West
