Book Simple Fields of Physics by Finite Element Analysis

Download or read book Simple Fields of Physics by Finite Element Analysis written by B. Backstrom and published by Gb Pub. This book was released on 2005 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever solved a partial differential equation ? The laws of physics may be transformed mathematically into second-order partial differential equations (PDEs). The simplest one of this type is known as the Laplace equation. This governs the distribution of gravitation in free space. Other PDEs, for the electric and magnetic fields etc., are somewhat similar but more complicated. Few of these equations have exact solutions, which explains why they do not receive the attention they deserve in the academic curriculum. Only in recent years has it become possible to solve PDEs numerically on an ordinary PC by finite element analysis (FEA). The present book is unique in its approach. It is not another volume on conceivable algorithms of FEA. Its main purpose is to exploit a free web program for dealing with PDEs occurring in physics. This program solves a typical example in seconds and promptly presents the results graphically by a variety of plots. The main topics treated are the following. Plotting Functions, Laplace and Poisson PDEs, Electricity, Magnetism, Heat, Problems in 3D Space, Electromagnetic Waves, Wave Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics. More information is available on the author's web site.

Book Recent Developments in Complex Analysis and Computer Algebra

Download or read book Recent Developments in Complex Analysis and Computer Algebra written by R.P. Gilbert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of papers presented in the special sessions on "Complex and Numerical Analysis", "Value Distribution Theory and Complex Domains", and "Use of Symbolic Computation in Mathematics Education" of the ISAAC'97 Congress held at the University of Delaware, during June 2-7, 1997. The ISAAC Congress coincided with a U.S.-Japan Seminar also held at the University of Delaware. The latter was supported by the National Science Foundation through Grant INT-9603029 and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science through Grant MTCS-134. It was natural that the participants of both meetings should interact and consequently several persons attending the Congress also presented papers in the Seminar. The success of the ISAAC Congress and the U.S.-Japan Seminar has led to the ISAAC'99 Congress being held in Fukuoka, Japan during August 1999. Many of the same participants will return to this Seminar. Indeed, it appears that the spirit of the U.S.-Japan Seminar will be continued every second year as part of the ISAAC Congresses. We decided to include with the papers presented in the ISAAC Congress and the U.S.-Japan Seminar several very good papers by colleagues from the former Soviet Union. These participants in the ISAAC Congress attended at their own expense.

Book Finite Element Programs for Structural Vibrations

Download or read book Finite Element Programs for Structural Vibrations written by C.T.F. Ross and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Programs for Structural Vibrations presents detailed descriptions of how to use six computer programs (written in Fortran 77) to determine the resonant frequencies of one, two, and three-dimensional skeletal structures through the finite element method. Chapter 1 is on "The Finite Element Method" and Chapter 2 demonstrates, with the aid of hand calculations, the finite element solution of some smaller structures. Chapter 3 covers "The Modular Approach", and Chapters 4 to 9 describe the six computer programs, with a large number of worked examples. The six computer programs are given in Appendices I through VI, and on a 3 1/2'' disk included with the book. The programs are suitable for use on IBM (or compatible) PC (640K or more) or minicomputer.

Book Simple Deformation and Vibration by Fea

Download or read book Simple Deformation and Vibration by Fea written by Gunnar Backstrom and published by Gb Pub. This book was released on 2006 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple Fields of Physics by FEA Understanding Elasticity the Easy Way Elastic deformation is of enormous importance in mechanical engineering and has long been a prominent item in technical education. The theory profits from major developments during the 1800s. Stress and strain do not transform as directly as vectors, and the subject is somewhat counter-intuitive. A century ago one had to resort to graphical devices, such as the Mohr circle, to handle elasticity concepts. Most textbooks still use this antiquated technique. With the advent of the PC it became possible to transform stress and strain analytically and to plot results in informative ways. In addition, elastic deformation could then be studied by means of finite element analysis, which dramatically extended the range of applications. The present volume contains other enhancements with respect to ordinary textbooks. Problems of torsion and warping are solved by PDEs, even for hollow shafts. There is also a treatise on thermoelastic defor-mation. Many examples are in three dimensions. Finally, wave motion is studied by a slight extension of the PDE formalism. The latter is sufficient for solving problems of forced as well as free vibration. Eigenstates can thus be illustrated for objects in 2D and 3D. This book assumes no previous knowledge of FEA. In the first chapters it introduces the graphics facilities of FlexPDE and then demonstrates how Laplace and Poisson equations may be solved. The free student version of this program is sufficient throughout.

Book TEXTBOOK OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS

Download or read book TEXTBOOK OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS written by P. SESHU and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for a one-semester course in Finite Element Method, this compact and well-organized text presents FEM as a tool to find approximate solutions to differential equations. This provides the student a better perspective on the technique and its wide range of applications. This approach reflects the current trend as the present-day applications range from structures to biomechanics to electromagnetics, unlike in conventional texts that view FEM primarily as an extension of matrix methods of structural analysis. After an introduction and a review of mathematical preliminaries, the book gives a detailed discussion on FEM as a technique for solving differential equations and variational formulation of FEM. This is followed by a lucid presentation of one-dimensional and two-dimensional finite elements and finite element formulation for dynamics. The book concludes with some case studies that focus on industrial problems and Appendices that include mini-project topics based on near-real-life problems. Postgraduate/Senior undergraduate students of civil, mechanical and aeronautical engineering will find this text extremely useful; it will also appeal to the practising engineers and the teaching community.

Book Finite Element Method to Model Electromagnetic Systems in Low Frequency

Download or read book Finite Element Method to Model Electromagnetic Systems in Low Frequency written by Francis Piriou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-04-02 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical modeling now plays a central role in the design and study of electromagnetic systems. In the field of devices operating in low frequency, it is the finite element method that has come to the fore in recent decades. Today, it is widely used by engineers and researchers in industry, as well as in research centers. This book describes in detail all the steps required to discretize Maxwell’s equations using the finite element method. This involves progressing from the basic equations in the continuous domain to equations in the discrete domain that are solved by a computer. This approach is carried out with a constant focus on maintaining a link between physics, i.e. the properties of electromagnetic fields, and numerical analysis. Numerous academic examples, which are used throughout the various stages of model construction, help to clarify the developments.
