Book A Field Measure Survey of American Architecture

Download or read book A Field Measure Survey of American Architecture written by and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing from the nearly half a million photographs and documents comprising the Historic American Buildings Survey held in the US Library of Congress, this book constructs a fictional ?one-way road trip? across the United States, weaving north and south across the Mason-Dixon line while tacking west. In A Field Measure Survey of American Architecture, Jeffrey Ladd uses the HABS archive as a surrogate in order to manifest a portrait of his former country at a moment when its democracy seems imperiled.00Inspired equally by the social documentary work of Walker Evans and the architectural interventions of Gordon Matta-Clark and others, Ladd embraces the muteness of photographs to create an ambiguous space where the sculptural, political, forensic, and fictional coalesce within a landscape of both beauty and fragility. What initially appears to be a single voice is revealed to belong to dozens of makers; what seems a description of the distant past is revealed to be closer to the present than expected. A Field Measure Survey sheds light not only on this remarkable archive but on the proliferate meanings that can be shaped from its images.

Book Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook

Download or read book Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook written by National Committee on Soil and Terrain, and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook specifies methods and terminology for soil and land surveys. It has been widely used throughout Australia, providing one reference set of definitions for the characterisation of landform, vegetation, land surface, soil and substrate. The book advocates that a comprehensive suite of land and soil attributes be recorded in a uniform manner. This approach is more useful than the allocation of land or soil to preconceived types or classes. The third edition includes revised chapters on location and vegetation as well as some new landform elements. These updates have been guided by the National Committee on Soil and Terrain, a steering committee comprising representatives from key federal, state and territory land resource assessment agencies. Essential reading for all professionals involved in land resource surveys, this book will also be of value to students and educators in soil science, geography, ecology, agriculture, forestry, resource management, planning, landscape architecture and engineering.

Book Field Survey of Growth and Colonization of Nonnative Trees on Mainland Alaska

Download or read book Field Survey of Growth and Colonization of Nonnative Trees on Mainland Alaska written by John Alden and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six of nine nonnative boreal conifers in three genera (¿Abies,¿ ¿Larix,¿ & `Pinus¿) regenerated in 11-31 years after they were introduced to mainland Alaska. Lodegole pine & the Siberian larches were the most widely introduced species. Siberian larch grew up to 6 times more stem vol. than white spruce in the first 40 years on upland sites. Lodgepole pine grew more stem wood than white spruce for 35 years after planting. Snowshoe hares & moose were the most serious pests of these conifers. Growth & age relationships were negative for all sampled conifers & positive for native white spruce. The introduction & naturalization of noninvasive tree species may improve the diversity, stability, & productivity of managed forest ecosystems. Illustrations.

Book Basic Elements of Survey Research in Education

Download or read book Basic Elements of Survey Research in Education written by Ulemu Luhanga and published by IAP. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 831 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first book of the series Survey Methods in Educational Research, we have brought together leading authors and scholars in the field to discuss key introductory concepts in the creation, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of survey instruments and their resultant findings. While there are other textbooks that might introduce these concepts adequately well, the authors here have focused on the pragmatic issues that inevitably arise in the development and administration process of survey instruments. Drawing from their rich experiences, the authors present these potential speed bumps or road blocks a survey researcher in education or the social sciences might encounter. Referencing their own work and practice, the authors provide valuable suggestions for dealing with these issues “your advisor never told you about.” And all of the recommendations are aligned with standard protocols and current research on best practices in the field of research methodology. This book is broken into four broad units on creating survey items and instruments, administering surveys, analyzing the data from surveys, and stories of successful administrations modeling the entire research cycle. Each chapter focuses on a different concept in the survey research process, and the authors share their approaches to addressing the issues. These topics include survey item construction, scale development, cognitive interviewing, measuring change with self-report data, translation issues with surveys administered in multiple languages, working with school and program administrators when implementing surveys, a review of current software used in survey research, the use of weights, response styles, assessing validity of results, and effectively communicating your results and findings … and much more. The intended audience of the volume will be practitioners, administrators, teachers as researchers, graduate students, social science and education researchers not experienced in survey research, and students learning program evaluation. In brief, if you are considering doing survey research, this book is meant for you.

Book A Guide to Understanding Land Surveys

Download or read book A Guide to Understanding Land Surveys written by Stephen V. Estopinal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonsurveyor's definitive land survey sourcebook—now extensively updated Over the last several decades, the Internet has allowed individuals with a non-technical background to assume more control of land surveys. But without a clear understanding of how to accurately use land survey data, and faced with the challenges of communicating specific requirements to a professional land surveyor, conflicts often arise that lead to litigation. A Guide to Understanding Land Surveys bridges the ever-expanding communication gap between the users of land boundary information and professional land surveyors. This indispensable guide clearly explains the functions and procedures required in every survey (routine or otherwise), and the role of a surveyor in their investigation and re-establishment. It is a must-have resource for title attorneys, paralegals, realtors, government agents, and others who rely on the information gathered and presented by land surveys. Written in nontechnical language and supported by numerous line drawings, A Guide to Understanding Land Surveys not only helps readers gain a strong familiarity with a survey, plat, or land description, but enables them to accurately evaluate it, detect any inadequacies, and make the proper adjustments to obtain approval. The Third Edition of A Guide to Understanding Land Surveys has been expanded with thirty percent new material and is fully updated to reflect the latest practice guidelines and technology, including the use of GPS and GIS in land boundary re-establishment. Also included is important new material on how technology should be interpreted in assessing the quality and accuracy of a land survey.
