Book excerpt: A system was developed by the Forest Insect and Disease Survey (FIDS) Technology Development Project at the Petawawa National Forestry Institute(PNFI) to process FIDS sampling form data and, eventually, to process themany other types of data available to FIDS. The system, FIDSINFOBASE, wasdesigned and programmed using the INGRES relational database managementsystem. Various types of forms data entry, modification, analysis, querying, and reporting are available to each of the six regional FIDS units acrossCanada, to FIDS headquarters, and FIDS-PNFI operations.

Power and published by Chalk River, Ont. : Petawawa National Forestry Institute. This book was released on 1987 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Forest Insect and Disease Survey (FIDS) is a program of the Canadian Forestry Service responsible for the collection, processing, and dissemination of information on forest insect and disease conditions of Canada. FIDS prepared annual estimates of pest occurrence by species, location, area of forest affected, and intensity of damage. A large part of the data the Survey collects is now retained in an information system called FIDSINFOBASE, developed using the INGRES relational database management system and providing national access. This report looks at the potential application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in the Survey, determines the requirements, including technical, in relations to FIDS activities and GIS functions, and conducts both system selection and investigation.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the Forum was to reach a consensus on what are the mapping and forestry applications that airborne scanner technology can fill now or in the near future; what are the appropriate sensors, processing systems, and analysis methods; what developments are needed to get the applications implemented; what expertise is available; and what is the likelihood of success. The key to achieving this objective was to develop an understanding by all participants of the application problems, financial constraints, technical problems, and scientific issues. Part 1 of this report consists of syntheses of introductory presentations and the work session discussions, as well as a summary of the wrap-up session. Part 2 contains the papers presented and the banquet speech is in part 3.
