In fact, it seems as if everyone in Midlandia is trying to kill Louis and the other two human teens, Cyndi Victoria Chase and Devon Alexander. The three are Favorites. If they survive Midlandia, they will have great powers. That's a big "if," though. Louis must find Cyndi and Devon, who've been flung to different parts of Midlandia. Only when the three are together will Olivion's Gate appear. Then they will be able to cross the Gate, meet the Olivion, and return home. The three teens must also pay attention to everything on their journey. It is not enough to be a Favorite; they need to learn how to use their newfound abilities. Tremendous challenges await them at home. But as they're about to learn, those challenges are only the beginning. A threat is coming that is greater than anyone -- human or eNoli or iLone -- can imagine....

Download or read book Staging Favorites written by Francisco Gómez Martos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-20 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Staging Favorites explores theatrical representations of royal favorites in Spanish, French, and English dramatic production during the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. During this time, the courts of Spain, France, and England were dominated by all-powerful ministers who enjoyed royal favor. The politics of royal favoritism gave rise to a significant group of plays which constitutes the subject of this book. While scholars have studied this group partially and separately in national context, Staging Favorites approaches these "dramas about favorites" from a wider European point of view, and performs comparative analyses of a number of plays – including La paciencia en la fortuna; Le Favori, ou la Coquette; and Sejanus His Fall – and adds new detail and differentiation to the early modern perception and representation of the royal favorite. This book will appeal to scholars and students interested in early modern literature, history of theater, and cultural history.

Download or read book Music and Social Justice written by Cathy Benedict and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-18 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book author Cathy Benedict challenges and reframes traditional ways of addressing many of the topics we have come to think of as social justice. Offering practical suggestions for helping both teachers and students think philosophically (and thus critically) about the world around them, each chapter engages with important themes through music making and learning as it presents scenarios, examples of dialogue with students, unit ideas and lesson plans geared toward elementary students (ages 6-14). Taken-for-granted subjects often considered beyond the understanding of elementary students such as friendship, racism, poverty, religion, and class are addressed and interrogated in such a way that honours the voice and critical thinking of the elementary student. Suggestions are given that help both teachers and students to pause, reflect and redirect dialogue with questions that uncover bias, misinformation and misunderstandings that too often stand in the way of coming to know and embracing difference. Guiding questions, which anchor many curricular mandates, are used throughout in order to scaffold critical and reflective thinking beginning in the earliest grades of elementary music education. Where does social justice reside? Whose voice is being heard and whose is being silenced? How do we come to think of and construct poverty? How is it that musics become used the way they are used? What happens to songs initially intended for socially driven purposes when their significance is undermined? These questions and more are explored encouraging music teachers to embrace a path toward socially just engagements at the elementary and middle school levels.

This book was released on 2019-08-26 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it take to be a student-athlete at Notre Dame? Sports fans think they know what it takes to be an athlete at a Division I college: the training, the discipline, the pain, the motivation. But most of us have no idea what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at a top academic institution such as Notre Dame. In “Triumphs From Notre Dame: Echoes of Her Loyal Sons and Daughters,” the third book in Lisa Kelly’s “Echoes From Notre Dame” book series, Lisa details what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at Notre Dame: the dedication, determination, and drive that Our Lady’s student-athletes need to find success both on and off the field. For the first time, Lisa includes female student-athletes as she tells the stories of a diverse group of Notre Dame student-athletes from multiple sports: football, basketball, hockey, baseball, golf, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s track, and a Notre Dame student manager; and details their journeys to, through, and beyond Notre Dame including: • The lessons they learned in college, and how those lessons changed their lives via the Notre Dame Value Stream • Their years at Notre Dame • The end of their collegiate and professional athletic careers • The new careers, dreams and achievements following their Notre Dame years Notre Dame changes the lives of Her students – and these student-athletes changed life at Notre Dame. “The University of Notre Dame affords those who are blessed to attend a phenomenal opportunity. Not just in terms of personal accolades or successes, but rather in the fundamental growth and development of individuals as they journey along a path that will undoubtedly change their lives forever. Lisa perfectly captures the spirit of this journey through the eyes of my Notre Dame brothers and sisters in the eloquently written Triumphs from Notre Dame – Echoes of Her Loyal Sons and Daughters. Outstanding!” — Oscar McBride, former Notre Dame Tight End
