Book Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Tensile Shear Spot Weldments

Download or read book Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Tensile Shear Spot Weldments written by FV. Lawrence and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue crack initiation and growth in SAE 960X steel tensile-shear spot welds were studied by sectioning companion specimens and by replicating the exposed site of crack initiation in a presectioned weldment. Constant-amplitude R = 0 and R = -1 tests, as well as variable-load history tests were performed on as-welded weldments and weldments peened ("coined") after welding.

Book Electric Potential Drop Studies of Fatigue Crack Development in Tensile Shear Spot Welds

Download or read book Electric Potential Drop Studies of Fatigue Crack Development in Tensile Shear Spot Welds written by P. Kurath and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of fatigue cracks in galvanized low carbon and high-strength-low-alloy steel, tensile-shear-spot weldments was investigated using a d-c electrical-potential-drop technique which sensed the depth of fatigue cracks as they propagated through the thickness of the specimens. These resistivity changes were correlated with the actual crack depths measured on sectioned specimens. This correlation was used to identify lives at which certain crack depths were achieved: the duration of Stage I (initiation) corresponded to a crack depth of about 18% of the sheet thickness (?0.16 to 0.48 mm), and the duration of Stage II (through-thickness propagation) corresponded to a crack depth equal to the sheet thickness (0.89 to 2.72 mm). The final failure of the specimen determined the conclusion of Stage III (cross-width crack propagation).

Book Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches

Download or read book Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches written by Dieter Radaj and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local approaches to fatigue assessment are used to predict the structural durability of welded joints, to optimise their design and to evaluate unforeseen joint failures. This standard work provides a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods. It covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Seam-welded and spot-welded joints in structural steels and aluminium alloys are also considered. This completely reworked second edition takes into account the tremendous progress in understanding and applying local approaches which has been achieved in the last decade. It is a standard reference for designers, structural analysts and testing engineers who are responsible for the fatigue-resistant in-service behaviour of welded structures. Completely reworked second edition of a standard work providing a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods Covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Written by a distinguished team of authors

Book Failure Mechanisms of Advanced Welding Processes

Download or read book Failure Mechanisms of Advanced Welding Processes written by X Sun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many new, or relatively new, welding processes such as friction stir welding, resistance spot welding and laser welding are being increasingly adopted to replace or improve on traditional welding techniques. Before advanced welding techniques are employed, their potential failure mechanisms should be well understood and their suitability for welding particular metals and alloys in different situations should be assessed. Failure mechanisms of advanced welding processes provides a critical analysis of advanced welding techniques and their potential failure mechanisms. The book contains chapters on the following topics: Mechanics modelling of spot welds under general loading conditions and applications to fatigue life predictions, Resistance spot weld failure mode and weld performance for aluminium alloys, dual phase steels and TRIP steels, Fatigue behaviour of spot welded joints in steel sheets, Non-destructive evaluation of spot weld quality, Solid state joining - fundamentals of friction stir welding, Failure mechanisms in friction stir welds, Microstructure characteristics and mechanical properties of laser weld bonding of magnesium alloy to aluminium alloy, Fatigue in laser welds, Weld metal ductility and its influence on formability of tailor welded blanks, Joining of lightweight materials using reactive nanofoils, and Fatigue life prediction and improvements for MIG welded advanced high strength steel weldments. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Failure mechanisms of advanced welding processes is a standard reference text for anyone working in welding and the automotive, shipbuilding, oil and gas and other metal fabrication industries who use modern and advanced welding processes. Provides a critical analysis of advanced welding techniques and their potential failure mechanisms Experts in the field survey a range of welding processes and examine reactions under various types of loading conditions Examines the current state of fatigue life prediction of welded materials and structures in the context of spot welded joints and non-destructive evaluation of quality
