Book Fantasy Sports Real Money

Download or read book Fantasy Sports Real Money written by Bill Ordine and published by Huntington Press Inc. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you seen the ads? Who hasn’t, right? How did it all happen? Is DFS gambling? Is it legal? And what’s next for this industry under attack? These are just some of the questions answered by award-winning author Bill Ordine as he traces the background of the curious federal law that opened the door for the billion-dollar play-for-money sports-contest industry. Who was behind the pivotal carve-out? How did daily fantasy rise so quickly? And where is it likely to land now that the DFS genie is out of the bottle? More important, Fantasy Sports, Real Money shows you how to get into the game and compete, with strategies the pros use and case studies from players who’ve won millions. This is the first DFS book to cover football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and even golf, with game plans for setting lineups, maximizing value within the salary cap, finding pricing inefficiencies, playing against (or avoiding) experts, and identifying overlays, as well as many other angles being used right now to get the money in this provocative sports-betting offshoot.

Book The Smart Money

Download or read book The Smart Money written by Michael Konik and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A riveting inside look at the lucrative world of professional high-stakes sports betting by a journalist who lived a secret life as a key operative in the world's most successful sports gambling ring. When journalist Michael Konik landed an interview with Rick "Big Daddy" Matthews, the largest bet he'd placed on a sporting event was $200. Konik, an expert blackjack and poker player, was no stranger to Vegas. But Matthews was in a different league: the man was rumored to be the world's smartest sports bettor, the mastermind behind "the Brain Trust," a shadowy group of gamblers known for their expertise in beating the Vegas line. Konik had heard the word on the street -- that Matthews was a snake, a conniver who would do anything to gain an edge. But he was also brilliant, cunning, and charming. And when he asked Konik if he'd like to "make a little money" during the football season, the writer found himself seduced . . . So began Michael Konik's wild ride as an operative of the elite Brain Trust. In The Smart Money, Konik takes readers behind the veil of secrecy shrouding the most successful sports betting operation in America, bypassing the myths and the rumors, going all the way to its innermost sanctum. He reveals how they -- and he -- got rich by beating the Vegas lines and, ultimately, the multimillion-dollar offshore betting circuit. He details the excesses and the betrayals, the horse-trading and the paranoia, that are the perks and perils of a lifestyle in which staking inordinate sums of money on the outcome of a single event -- sometimes as much as $1 million on a football game -- is a normal part of doing business.

Gambling addiction has no limits and is found in all segments of society. According to some estimates, as much as one-third of the nation's economy passes through the gambling enterprise each year. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. For several decades, casinos and gambling ships have catered to the elderly. Currently, we are beginning to see the monster under the iceberg, gambling on the Internet while fantasy sports have been developing into daily fantasy sports. The nation's youth can be swallowed up by gambling with one click and a credit card. The purpose of this study is to develop a topical review of problem gambling in America. Various dimensions of problem gambling, from the source of the addiction to potential recovery, are covered. Recovery methods are identified. Basic research methods for gambling research are overviewed and studied. Distinction is made between the procedures employed in executing a research project and the methods employed in gathering the data necessary to the project. A biblical foundation is emphasized throughout the text.
