C. than for Canada as a whole. [...] In fact, the increase in the population aged 85 and over was over five times the increase in the population aged 65 and over. This can be contrasted with data presented in the first Fact Book on Aging (1986) where in 1981 persons aged 85 and over numbered only 27,100 in B. C. and represented only 9.1% of the population of seniors.
