Book Old Industrial Cities Seeking New Road of Industrialization

Download or read book Old Industrial Cities Seeking New Road of Industrialization written by Mark Wang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the context of market economy and competition from rapidly growing coastal areas, Northeast China became the burden to China's overall economic development. With a high concentration of state-owned heavy industries, cities in this region suffered from heavy losses in revenue and massive layoffs of millions of former state-owned enterprise workers, known as the "Northeast Phenomenon" or "Neo-Northeast Phenomenon". The once towering economic giant was down. Such a "phenomenon" is not uncommon in other "rust belt" regions in industrialized economies. However, since the implementation of the Chinese Government's "Revitalisation Strategy of Northeast China" in 2003, cities in Northeast China have gone through various transformations.

Book The New Professional Service Firm

Download or read book The New Professional Service Firm written by L. Martin van der Mandele and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-27 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this book alert that professional services like law, accountancy, and consultancy firms are set to face major disruption. The most important driver and enabler are the new technologies that help and in part substitute the work done by professionals. The second important disruptor is the new generation of professionals – “NewGen” – who are less interested in building their careers in a hierarchical organization and more interested in entrepreneurial challenges in small teams, with more rapid returns. In the meanwhile, major service conglomerates – the “big four” accounting firms, the “big three” consulting firms to name a few examples – build their network using their brand and substantial resources. All along, the relentless pressure from clients to receive more services at lower cost continues. Medium-sized professional firms as well as one-person independents appear to suffer most from these disruptions and are most anxious to find new ways to conduct their business. But the leaders of large firms also feel that they are increasingly unable to support the innovative entrepreneurship of their most promising professionals while their organizations institutionalize and their overheads continue to grow. This book proposes a new orientation and model of a professional service firm as an answer to these challenges, by creating a Professional Service Community. It is a synergistic team of organizations that share a vision of their role in society and main lines of their mission as well as the quality of their deliverables and their key clients. At the same time, they are independent in designing their internal business models – like recruitment, training, knowledge management, and economics. The Professional Service Community provides a unique and highly attractive level of entrepreneurship, flexibility, and efficiency to the benefit of its clients, partners, staff, and other stakeholders. It is the way of the future.

Download or read book Seeking Community written by William Mahler and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title Seeking Community: A Spiritual Journey came to me almost before I knew what the content of the writing would be. You could say that this writing was created around the title, as my eighty-year life journey has made me became more aware of the importance of the friendships and relationships that are made with everything. Each of these relationships constitutes or creates a community unto itself. Most of us spend our entire life looking for and modifying our relationships and communities in accordance with our life needs as those needs change throughout life. The motivation for the creation of any relationship is the need to belong. The connection that is then made is spiritual, meaning that it is about the feeling of belonging, the creation of the friendship, the connection that is of importance, whether those relationships are with people, animals, things, or with the world around us. It is the connection itself that is spiritual, not the entity. The realization that all feelings, good or bad, are spiritual, which is the essence of this writing. Without the connections made through community, there would be no evolution, which is growth and/or change, because there would be no entity to share that which has been learned with. This is the scenario for all species, not just man.

Book excerpt: To most making it through tough times is never financially easy. Those who got through the periods of “Great Depression” did so with grit, determination, a can-do spirit and a lot of courage. Best of all, they came out stronger too! Those who survive those challenges and come out with a solid self-concept, a loving family and grounded faith ridded themselves of spiritual and mental baggage that would have otherwise destroyed them. They had a lean mind to go with a toned body. As we gaze at the hard days in front of us, it is time to look back on some time-tested examples of those who thrived in tough times as well as those whose mental baggage caused them to crash and burn. The lessons in this book involve not as much what each of us can add to insure survival, but what we can shed from our minds to keep out spirits high and our attitudes on an even keel. In trying times or even when things are great a fit, lean, positive mind is the key to being happy.

Book Lost Voices of Modernity

Download or read book Lost Voices of Modernity written by Denise Gimpel and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2001-08-31 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lost Voices of Modernity uncovers the story of the most popular and perhaps the most maligned modern Chinese literary journal, Xiaoshuo yuebao (The Short Story Magazine). First published in Shanghai in 1910, Xiaoshuo yuebao boasted a circulation of ten thousand within its first three years of publication. Scholars have long characterized the journal as little more than superficial popular entertainment (primarily action/adventure and love stories) and attributed its early popularity to an urban audience's need for distraction and escape. Now, however, Denise Gimpel's persuasive and effective study reveals a journal of serious appearance and intent. By placing publication, contributions, and contributors within their specific cultural, social, and political contexts, Gimpel provides an astonishingly cogent picture of a reform-through-fiction project created and managed by a dedicated body of writers attempting to address the concerns of the day. Xiaoshuo yuebao informed the growing reading public of national and international issues, science, and foreign lands. Read in context, the stories, essays, plays, and poems published in its pages--largely in the form of the "new fiction" that had been hailed as the sociopolitical cure-all of the early twentieth century--constitute a panorama of the reforms being discussed at the time at all levels of public and private life.
