Book Design of Experiments for Engineers and Scientists

Download or read book Design of Experiments for Engineers and Scientists written by Jiju Antony and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-06-02 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of Design of Experiments for Engineers and Scientists adds to the tried and trusted tools that were successful in so many engineering organizations with new coverage of design of experiments (DoE) in the service sector. Case studies are updated throughout, and new ones are added on dentistry, higher education, and utilities. Although many books have been written on DoE for statisticians, this book overcomes the challenges a wider audience faces in using statistics by using easy-to-read graphical tools. Readers will find the concepts in this book both familiar and easy to understand, and users will soon be able to apply them in their work or research. This classic book is essential reading for engineers and scientists from all disciplines tackling all kinds of product and process quality problems and will be an ideal resource for students of this topic. Written in nonstatistical language, the book is an essential and accessible text for scientists and engineers who want to learn how to use DoE Explains why teaching DoE techniques in the improvement phase of Six Sigma is an important part of problem-solving methodology New edition includes two new chapters on DoE for services as well as case studies illustrating its wider application in the service industry

Book Experimental Methods and Instrumentation for Chemical Engineers

Download or read book Experimental Methods and Instrumentation for Chemical Engineers written by Gregory S. Patience and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Methods and Instrumentation for Chemical Engineers, Second Edition, touches many aspects of engineering practice, research, and statistics. The principles of unit operations, transport phenomena, and plant design constitute the focus of chemical engineering in the latter years of the curricula. Experimental methods and instrumentation is the precursor to these subjects. This resource integrates these concepts with statistics and uncertainty analysis to define what is necessary to measure and to control, how precisely and how often. The completely updated second edition is divided into several themes related to data: metrology, notions of statistics, and design of experiments. The book then covers basic principles of sensing devices, with a brand new chapter covering force and mass, followed by pressure, temperature, flow rate, and physico-chemical properties. It continues with chapters that describe how to measure gas and liquid concentrations, how to characterize solids, and finally a new chapter on spectroscopic techniques such as UV/Vis, IR, XRD, XPS, NMR, and XAS. Throughout the book, the author integrates the concepts of uncertainty, along with a historical context and practical examples.A problem solutions manual is available from the author upon request. Includes the basics for 1st and 2nd year chemical engineers, providing a foundation for unit operations and transport phenomena Features many practical examples Offers exercises for students at the end of each chapter Includes up-to-date detailed drawings and photos of equipment

Book Experimentation in Software Engineering

Download or read book Experimentation in Software Engineering written by Claes Wohlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-16 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like other sciences and engineering disciplines, software engineering requires a cycle of model building, experimentation, and learning. Experiments are valuable tools for all software engineers who are involved in evaluating and choosing between different methods, techniques, languages and tools. The purpose of Experimentation in Software Engineering is to introduce students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners to empirical studies in software engineering, using controlled experiments. The introduction to experimentation is provided through a process perspective, and the focus is on the steps that we have to go through to perform an experiment. The book is divided into three parts. The first part provides a background of theories and methods used in experimentation. Part II then devotes one chapter to each of the five experiment steps: scoping, planning, execution, analysis, and result presentation. Part III completes the presentation with two examples. Assignments and statistical material are provided in appendixes. Overall the book provides indispensable information regarding empirical studies in particular for experiments, but also for case studies, systematic literature reviews, and surveys. It is a revision of the authors’ book, which was published in 2000. In addition, substantial new material, e.g. concerning systematic literature reviews and case study research, is introduced. The book is self-contained and it is suitable as a course book in undergraduate or graduate studies where the need for empirical studies in software engineering is stressed. Exercises and assignments are included to combine the more theoretical material with practical aspects. Researchers will also benefit from the book, learning more about how to conduct empirical studies, and likewise practitioners may use it as a “cookbook” when evaluating new methods or techniques before implementing them in their organization.

Book Computational and Experimental Simulations in Engineering

Download or read book Computational and Experimental Simulations in Engineering written by Hiroshi Okada and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-16 with total page 1278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of computational engineering, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the 24th International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences (ICCES), held in Tokyo, Japan on March 25-28, 2019. ICCES covers all aspects of applied sciences and engineering: theoretical, analytical, computational, and experimental studies and solutions of problems in the physical, chemical, biological, mechanical, electrical, and mathematical sciences. As such, the book discusses highly diverse topics, including composites; bioengineering & biomechanics; geotechnical engineering; offshore & arctic engineering; multi-scale & multi-physics fluid engineering; structural integrity & longevity; materials design & simulation; and computer modeling methods in engineering. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaborations.

Book Experimental Engineering

Download or read book Experimental Engineering written by Rolla C. Carpenter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experimental Engineering: For Engineers and for Students in Engineering Laboratories The present work is a third edition of "Notes to Mechanical Laboratory Practice," published in 1890; of which a second edition was published in 1891, and soon exhausted by an unexpected demand from engineering schools and the profession. These earlier editions were prepared especially for the use of students in the Laboratory of Experimental Engineering, Sibley College, Cornell University, for the purpose of facilitating investigation of engineering subjects, and of providing a systematic course of instruction in experimental work. The book has been rewritten and very much enlarged, so that the change in title to Text-book of Experimental Engineering seems to be justified. Its principal object is the same as that of the earlier editions, but it is also believed that the volume will not be without value as a reference-book to the consulting and practising engineer, since it is the only work on the subject which contains in a single volume the principal standard methods which have been from time to time adopted by various engineering societies for the testing of materials, engines, and machinery. The book is, however, chiefly intended for use in engineering laboratories, and presents information which the experience of the author has shown to be necessary to carry out experiments intelligently and without great loss of time on the part of students.
