Book Water Resources Assessment Vol 1

Download or read book Water Resources Assessment Vol 1 written by Ecosystems Research Institute and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Water Resources Assessment, Vol. 1: Canyonlands National Park, Needles District and Adjacent Blm Lands Water required for repository construction and operations may be taken from the Colorado River or tributaries and aquifers which feed it. Depending on the amount of water diverted and its source, volume and quality of surface and groundwater resources within the park could be affected. Recreational use is high in the Colorado River with at least park visitors per year. The construction and operation of the repository will introduce many more people into the area, thereby potentially increasing recreational use both in the Colorado River and all areas adjacent to and within the park. This additional human activity will increase erosion and waste leading to potential deterioration of the water sources in the park. Download or read book Evaluation of the Water Supply at Six Sites in the Curecanti Recreation Area Southwestern Colorado Classic Reprint written by Arnold J. Boettcher and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evaluation of the Water Supply at Six Sites in the Curecanti Recreation Area, Southwestern Colorado Rocks exposed at the sites range in age from Precambrian to Quaternary. The Precambrian crystalline rocks contain water only in fractures. In the areas of investigation at or near steep canyons, the fractures are drained and the crystalline rocks are not known to yield water to wells. The consolidated sedimentary deposits of Jurassic and Cretaceous ages yield either little or no water to wells. Wells drilled into the volcanic rocks of Tertiary age generally yield less than 5 gallons per minute. Wells drilled into the landslide deposits of Quaternary age yield as much as 10 gallons per minute, whereas the valley-fill deposits yield as much as 50 gallons per minute to wells. The terrace deposits generally are drained and yield no water to wells. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2014-04-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Traditional ecological knowledge and tribal experience play a key role in developing future scientific solutions for adaptation to the impacts. The book explores climate-related issues for indigenous communities in the United States, including loss of traditional knowledge, forests and ecosystems, food security and traditional foods, as well as water, Arctic sea ice loss, permafrost thaw and relocation. The book also highlights how tribal communities and programs are responding to the changing environments. Fifty authors from tribal communities, academia, government agencies and NGOs contributed to the book. Previously published in Climatic Change, Volume 120, Issue 3, 2013.

Book Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah

Download or read book Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah written by David D. Gillette and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1999 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 52 papers in this vary in content from summaries or state-of-knowledge treatments, to detailed contributions that describe new species. Although the distinction is subtle, the title (Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah) indicates the science of paleontology in the state of Utah, rather than the even more ambitious intent if it were given the title “Vertebrate Paleontology of Utah” which would promise an encyclopedic treatment of the subject. The science of vertebrate paleontology in Utah is robust and intense. It has grown prodigiously in the past decade, and promises to continue to grow indefinitely. This research benefits everyone in the state, through Utah’s muse ums and educational institutions, which are the direct beneficiaries.

Book Geoecology of the Marias River Canyon Montana USA

Download or read book Geoecology of the Marias River Canyon Montana USA written by James G. Schmitt and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Marias River canyon in north-central Montana served during late Holocene time as a locus of human activity in an ecologically and geologically dynamic landscape. This volume presents the results of interdisciplinary research, synergistically combining geologic, ecologic, and archaeologic approaches focused on examining the ways that Late Precontact peoples depended upon the animal (bison) and plant resources of a changing landscape subject to erosion and sediment transport as dominant surficial processes. Connections between erosion and deposition, plant community distribution, large mammal niches, and native peoples' place in the Marias River canyon geoecosystem, as well as the role of tributary-junction alluvial fans as repositories of archaeological materials and vertebrate faunal remains are emphasized.
