Book Energy from the Biomass

Download or read book Energy from the Biomass written by W. Palz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-02-27 with total page 1403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of the previous Conferences on Energy from Biomass, held in Brighton 1980and Berlin 1982, and the continued interest among European countries, encouraged theCommission of the European Communities to organise the third conference on this areaof energy production. It brought together about 500 experts from many countries thuspresenting an international forum for discussion of the most recent advances in researchand development, manufacture and industrial applications.

Book Forest Biomass

Download or read book Forest Biomass written by T. Satoo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lord Rutherford has said that all science is either physics or stamp collecting. On that basis the study of forest biomass must be classified with stamp collecting and other such pleasurable pursuits. Japanese scientists have led the world, not only in collecting basic data, but in their attempts to systematise our knowledge of forest biomass. They have studied factors affecting dry matter production of forest trees in an attempt to approach underlying phYf'ical principles. This edition of Professor Satoo's book has been made possible the help of Dr John F. Hosner and the Virginia Poly technical Institute and State University who invited Dr Satoo to Blacksburg for three months in 1973 at about the time when he was in the final stages of preparing the Japanese version. Since then the explosion of world literature on forest biomass has continued to be fired by increasing shortages of timber supplies in many parts of the world as well as by a need to explore renewable sources of energy. In revising the original text I have attempted to maintain the input of Japanese work - much of which is not widely available outside Japan - and to update both the basic information and, where necessary, the conclusions to keep them in tune with current thinking. Those familiar with the Japanese original will find Chapter 3 largely rewritten on the basis of new work - much of which was initiated while Dr Satoo was in Blacksburg.

Book The Effects of Forest Management Practices on Nongame Birds

Download or read book The Effects of Forest Management Practices on Nongame Birds written by Marie Theresa Nietfeld and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This annotated bibliography contains over 700 references which deal with: (1) effects, direct and indirect, of forest management practices on nongame forest birds, covering such topics as logging, cut types, rotation periods, thinning, site preparation, plantations, pesticides, herbicides, burning and regeneration: (2) forest bird-habitat relationships in both natural and sites disturbed by forestry operations or other practices which would produce similar situations; (3) factors affecting species diversity and biogeography distributions; (4) the role of birds in the forest ecosystem; and (5) management and conservation considerations for nongame forest birds, and sorne related techniques. The emphasis was placed on migratory songbirds in the boreal forest area. However, since few studies have investigated the effects of forestry practices on this category of birds in the boreal region, information was included for a variety of habitat types from aIl over North America, and a few from other regions. It was hoped that the findings and management considerations in these papers would provide usefuI information, and that some of the trends observed could be applied to the boreal region"--Abstract, p. iii.

Book Annotated Bibliography of ENFOR Biomass Reports 1979 1990

Download or read book Annotated Bibliography of ENFOR Biomass Reports 1979 1990 written by I. S. Alemdag and published by Forestry Canada = Forêts Canada. This book was released on 1993 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography presents a compilation of all published and unpublished reports produced under Forestry Canada's ENFOR program of research and development on the production of forest biomass for energy purposes. The citations and summaries for 480 reports are included, covering the period from 1979 to 1990. These are arranged according to several broad subject areas. The reports are further categorized in a reference section which provides indices by tree species, geographic area, author, title and added keywords.

Book Silvicultural Systems for the Production of Energy Biomass in Conventional Operations in Atlantic Canada

Download or read book Silvicultural Systems for the Production of Energy Biomass in Conventional Operations in Atlantic Canada written by Pierre Zundel and published by Canadian Government Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an analysis of silvicultural systems designed to produce energy biomass from conventional forestry operations in Atlantic Canada. It also analyzes policy changes and incentives that might make biomass energy more attractive in the region. This report also serves as a model for other stand-level studies of this type to be carried out in Canada, and therefore methodological issues such as the appropriate scale and point of view from which to evaluate biomass energy are discussed.
