Book Evaluation of the Performance of Soil Moisture Sensors in Laboratory scale Lysimeters

Download or read book Evaluation of the Performance of Soil Moisture Sensors in Laboratory scale Lysimeters written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil moisture sensors were evaluated in laboratory-scale lysimeters. The performances of tensiometers, granular matrix sensors (GMS), capacitance sensors, phase transmission sensors, and of a portable capacitance probe and a frequency-domain reflectometry (FDR) sensor was observed in loam (31.5% sand, 45.2% silt, and 23.1% clay) and silt loam (20% sand, 54% silt, and 26% clay) of the Ramada Series. The experiment was conducted over two drying cycles in loam for moisture contents decreasing from 34.0 to 17.0% by volume for the 1999 trial and decreasing from 43.1 to 20.0% by volume for the 2000 trial and over a single drying cycle in silt loam for moisture decreasing from 45.8 to 19.5% by volume. The lysimeters were designed with hydraulic weighing systems to facilitate continuous monitoring of the soil moisture content. A conversion equation was developed, based on texture-specific calibration curves published by the manufacturer, to calibrate the readings of the Aqua-Tel sensors. The procedure followed for converting the readings of the Aquaterr probe was also partially developed by the experimenter to obtain more accuracy. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Book Engineering Electromagnetics

Download or read book Engineering Electromagnetics written by Nathan Ida and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 1062 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides students with a thorough theoretical understanding of electromagnetic field equations and it also treats a large number of applications. The text is a comprehensive two-semester textbook. The work treats most topics in two steps – a short, introductory chapter followed by a second chapter with in-depth extensive treatment; between 10 to 30 applications per topic; examples and exercises throughout the book; experiments, problems and summaries. The new edition includes: modifications to about 30-40% of the end of chapter problems; a new introduction to electromagnetics based on behavior of charges; a new section on units; MATLAB tools for solution of problems and demonstration of subjects; most chapters include a summary. The book is an undergraduate textbook at the Junior level, intended for required classes in electromagnetics. It is written in simple terms with all details of derivations included and all steps in solutions listed. It requires little beyond basic calculus and can be used for self-study. The wealth of examples and alternative explanations makes it very approachable by students. More than 400 examples and exercises, exercising every topic in the book Includes 600 end-of-chapter problems, many of them applications or simplified applications Discusses the finite element, finite difference and method of moments in a dedicated chapter

Download or read book Soil Water Measurement written by J. David Cooper and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for all those involved in measurement of soil water phenomena, whether they be environmental scientists, field technicians, agronomists, meteorologists, hydrogeologists, foresters, physical geographers, civil or water engineers or students in these subjects. It contains a comprehensive description of all the major methods used for measurement of soil water content and potential, solute concentration, transport and balance of water and solutes, including recharge to groundwater aquifers. The emphasis is firmly on techniques which can be applied in the field or on samples obtained from the field. The theory and practice of the workings of the main instruments and methods available is described, along with practical tips on surmounting some of the main difficulties and explanations of many commonly encountered jargon words.

Book Instrumentation for Moisture Measurement bases Subgrades and Earth Materials sensor Evaluation

Download or read book Instrumentation for Moisture Measurement bases Subgrades and Earth Materials sensor Evaluation written by G. A. Matzkanin and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two types of moisture sensors for long term in situ monitoring of moisture in highway subgrade soils have been developed and field tested. One sensor is based on the relationship between the soil moisture and the dielectric constant of the soil which affects the capacitance as sensed by a pair of embedded electrodes. The other sensor is based on the nuclear magnetic resonance of hydrogen of the water molecules in the soil. Results of the evaluation program show that the tested sensors are capable of determining soil moisture content in the range of 20% to 30% with an accuracy in the field of ±2% oven dry moisture content and a precision of ±2% oven dry moisture content. The sensors were evaluated in the field for over a year under in-service highways in Arizona and Pennsylvania, and under a test road at the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research Laboratory in New Hampshire. Periodic comparisons were made among the sensor readings and results of other moisture measurements including nuclear probe and gravimetric analysis of borings. Although some discrepancies were observed among the field results, and the field tests were not conclusive, the data obtained with the newly developed sensors appear to be consistent with the indicated moisture conditions.

Book Evaluation of Soil moisture Sensors for Use in Data acquisition Systems

Download or read book Evaluation of Soil moisture Sensors for Use in Data acquisition Systems written by Daniel E. Storm and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several commercially available soil-moisture sensors and computer hardware are evaluated for use in an integrated computer controlled data acquisiton system. The watermark resistance sensor, the heat dissipation sensor, and the tensiometer measure water potential in the range of approximately -0.1 to -1.0 bars. The fiberglass resistance cell, gypsum block, and tahermocouple psychrometer cover water potential below -1.0 bar. To cover the entire range of water potentials encountered in the field, two types of moisture sensors can be used simultaneously. The least expensive system uses the tensiometer with the resistance type moisture sensors, and the most expensive system uses the heat dissipation sensors.
