Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God intervene in our lives? If so, why does God so often seem to ignore our prayers? There have been countless scholars throughout the ages who have attempted various answers to this most significant question. Thus, the issue isn't new, but as old as The Bible. It was certainly true for Job, and David perhaps said it best, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?" Psalm 22:1. Yet, as Christians we believe God does intervene in our lives. We have faith. Is that faith based merely upon what we believe or is it also based upon experience? Certainly, the Bible provides countless examples of God's intervention on behalf of His people, those reported in Exodus being perhaps the most vivid. Then there is the ultimate intervention in human history, the redeeming sacrifice of God's only son, Jesus Christ. But the question still lingers, does God intervene in our lives today? Eternal Justice answers this question with a resounding, YES. It tells the stories of some of God's most lost souls and how they made their way back to Him through His direct intervention in their lives.

Book The Eternal Criminal Record

Download or read book The Eternal Criminal Record written by James B. Jacobs and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over sixty million Americans, possessing a criminal record overshadows everything else about their public identity. A rap sheet, or even a court appearance or background report that reveals a run-in with the law, can have fateful consequences for a person’s interactions with just about everyone else. The Eternal Criminal Record makes transparent a pervasive system of police databases and identity screening that has become a routine feature of American life. The United States is unique in making criminal information easy to obtain by employers, landlords, neighbors, even cyberstalkers. Its nationally integrated rap-sheet system is second to none as an effective law enforcement tool, but it has also facilitated the transfer of ever more sensitive information into the public domain. While there are good reasons for a person’s criminal past to be public knowledge, records of arrests that fail to result in convictions are of questionable benefit. Simply by placing someone under arrest, a police officer has the power to tag a person with a legal history that effectively incriminates him or her for life. In James Jacobs’s view, law-abiding citizens have a right to know when individuals in their community or workplace represent a potential threat. But convicted persons have rights, too. Jacobs closely examines the problems created by erroneous record keeping, critiques the way the records of individuals who go years without a new conviction are expunged, and proposes strategies for eliminating discrimination based on criminal history, such as certifying the records of those who have demonstrated their rehabilitation.

Download or read book Death Contemplation and Schopenhauer written by R. Raj Singh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The connections between death, contemplation and the contemplative life have been a recurrent theme in the canons of both western and eastern philosophical thought. This book examines the classical sources of this philosophical literature, in particular Plato's Phaedo and the Katha Upanishad and then proceeds to a sustained analysis and critical assessment of the sources and standpoints of a single thinker, Arthur Schopenhauer, whose work comprehensively pursues this problem. Going beyond the well examined western influences on Schopenhauer, Singh offers an in-depth account of Schopenhauer's references to eastern thought and a comprehensive examination of his eastern sources, particularly Vedanta and Buddhism. The book traces the pivotal issue of death through the whole range of Schopenhauer's writings uncovering the deeper connotations of his crucial notion of the will-to-live.

This entails a meticulous examination of passages that highlight the importance of fairness, righteousness, and equity. By examining stories like the parables of Jesus, the teachings of the prophets, and the ethical guidelines provided in the Ten Commandments, readers gain insight into the moral compass that guides the concept of justice as presented in the Bible. Furthermore, "Divine Justice" offers a comprehensive investigation into the far-reaching impact of these biblical ideas on culture and society over the course of millennia. Through historical analysis and case studies, the book explores how the principles of justice found in the Bible have influenced the development of legal systems, social norms, and ethical frameworks in various civilizations. This exploration sheds light on how the biblical concept of justice has served as a foundation for shaping societal values, governance, and the pursuit of a just and equitable world. In essence, "Divine Justice" offers a holistic journey that not only uncovers the layers of justice within the Bible but also demonstrates how these layers have contributed to shaping the moral, cultural, and societal landscapes across time and geography. This deep dive into the interplay between scripture, philosophy, and human experience provides readers with a rich and nuanced understanding of justice that goes beyond mere theory, resonating with the practical aspects of life and governance.
