Book excerpt: El tema de la presente investigación aborda la estandarización de los procesos de producción para establecer un sistema de planeamiento y control de producción de una PYME. La mayor participación en el mercado de la PYME ha originado que no pueda cumplir con los plazos de entrega establecidos con sus clientes, debido a su limitada capacidad de producción. Para dar solución a esta problemática, se dividió el trabajo en cuatro capítulos. En el primer capítulo se presenta la descripción de la empresa, así como también las ventajas de la estandarización de procesos y los sistemas de producción. En el segundo, se presenta el análisis de la situación actual de todos los procesos de producción. En el tercer capítulo, se presentan las propuestas de mejora con el plan de producción, así como también el plan de implementación de los cambios propuestos. Finalmente se detallan los beneficios que se lograrán y el análisis beneficio - costo. De este modo, se llega a la conclusión de que para lograr el crecimiento de una PYME es necesario el mejoramiento de los procesos de producción para poder estar en la capacidad de abastecer a los clientes con sus pedidos en los tiempos establecidos.

Book excerpt: Resumen: La estandarización de los procesos productivos para la planta de "CAG Diseños Maderables", fué un estudio que se realizó con el fin de estimar los estándares de tiempo de fabricación de los productos de mayor demanda. Ésta investigación incluye el estudio de todas las operaciones que hacen parte del proceso, utilizando el método del muestreo del trabajo. Este trabajo presenta todo un compendio de técnicas que permiten regular y optimizar el proceso de fabricación. Se analizan todas y cada una de las estaciones de trabajo del proceso productivo, se definen las actividades que componen la fabricación de cada producto, se realiza un muestreo para estimar las proporciones elementales y con ello establecer los tiempos productivos e improductivos buscando identificar las operaciones críticas para dar sugerencias que conlleven al mejoramiento del proceso y optimizar condiciones como la disminución de los recorridos innecesarios en la fabricación. Además, se presentan dos casos hipotéticos con el fin de exponer la forma de hallar los estándares de tiempo para cada uno de ellos.

In addition, ever worsening pollution due to fossil fuel consumption, for instance oil and chemical spills, strip mining, sulphur emission and accumulation of solid wastes, has, among other things, led to an increase of as much as 10% in the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere in this century. This has induced a warming trend through the 'greenhouse effect' which prevents infrared radiation from leaving it. Many people think the average planetary temperatures may rise by 4°C or so by 2050. This is probably true since Antarctic ice cores evidence indicates that, over the last 160000 years, ice ages coincided with reduced levels of carbon dioxide and warmer interglacial episodes with increased levels of the gas in the atmosphere. Consequently, such an elevation of temperature over such a relatively short span of time would have catastrophic results in terms of rising sea level and associated flooding of vast tracts of low-lying lands. Reducing the burning of fossil fuels makes sense on both economic and environmental grounds. One of the most attractive alternatives is geothermal resources, especially in developing countries, for instance in El Salvador where geothermal energy provides about a fifth of total installed electrical power already. In fact, by the middle 1980s, at least 121 geothermal power plants were operating worldwide, most being of the dry steam type.
