Book The Secret History of Mac Gaming

Download or read book The Secret History of Mac Gaming written by Richard Moss and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Macintosh challenged games to be more than child’s play and quick reflexes. It made human–computer interaction friendly, inviting, and intuitive. Mac gaming led to much that is now taken for granted by PC gamers and spawned some of the biggest franchises in video game history. It allowed anyone to create games and playful software with ease, and gave indie developers a home for their products. It welcomed strange ideas and encouraged experimentation. It fostered passionate and creative communities who inspired and challenged developers to do better and to follow the Mac mantra ‘think different’. Drawing on archive material and interviews with key figures from the era – and featuring new material from Craig Fryar, Apple’s first Mac games evangelist and the co-creator of hit game Spectre – The Secret History of Mac Gaming is the story of those communities and the game developers who survived and thrived in an ecosystem that was serially ignored by the outside world. It’s a book about people who followed their hearts first and market trends second, showing how clever, quirky, and downright wonderful video games could be.

Book Lead the Pack

Download or read book Lead the Pack written by Nelson Soken and published by Hillcrest Publishing Group. This book was released on 2008-12 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Lead the Pack: Sparking Innovation that Drives Customers Wild," Soken and Wengert provide an insightful analysis of the psychological factors that influence innovation from the perspective of customers and companies. The business world is fraught with examples of companies that failed or lost market share because they attempted to sell "what we make" instead of anticipating "what you want." Soken and Wengert identify and explore the barriers that make it difficult to break free of old habits and provide the tools to unleash creativity that lead to true innovation. This book takes a deeper look into the human psyche that makes it possible to identify future market offerings that customers often don't yet know they need. The genuine visionary in the marketplace remains competitive by being steps ahead in recognizing emerging customer needs and desires and taking the appropriate measures to counter the deeply inherent resistance to change. Successfully reaching beyond the status quo is the true competitive advantage.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Victor Burgin
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018

  • Pages : 259 pages

Download or read book The Camera written by Victor Burgin and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Victor Burgin is one of the most influential artists and writers working today. He came to prominence as a key figure in the Conceptual Art of the late 1960s. After turning to photography in his artistic practice he produced a series of groundbreaking theoretical essays that drew on semiotics, psychoanalysis and feminism in order to think through the ideological role of photographs in the production of beliefs and values, and in the understanding of memory, history, subjectivity and space. In the last decade or so, Burgin has worked with computer-generated imagery and the virtual camera. But rather than accepting a radical divide between so-called 'analogue' and 'digital' realms, Burgin has emphasised the continuity of the virtual camera, the various physical cameras in use today, and the painted images of Quattrocento painting - all of which have their essence in the perspectival system of representation. Further to this, Burgin argues that no image is merely an optical experience - all images are essentially psychological events and thus virtual also. Inseparable from language, they form the psychical spaces of fantasy and projection, recognition and misrecognition. Whether on pages, walls or screens, in galleries or online, single views, or swarms of picture fragments, images are the making and unmaking of our sense of self, and the world around us. This collection brings together for the first time Victor Burgin's writings related specifcally to the camera, following the shifts and nuances in his thinking over nearly five decades. Moreover, it allows us to chart the evolution of what the camera was and is, and how its affects are to be understood."--Publisher's website
