Book Essential Engineering Thermodynamics

Download or read book Essential Engineering Thermodynamics written by Yumin Zhang and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Thermodynamics is a core course for students majoring in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Before taking this course, students usually have learned Engineering Mechanics—Statics and Dynamics, and they are used to solving problems with calculus and differential equations. Unfortunately, these approaches do not apply for Thermodynamics. Instead, they have to rely on many data tables and graphs to solve problems. In addition, many concepts are hard to understand, such as entropy. Therefore, most students feel very frustrated while taking this course. The key concept in Engineering Thermodynamics is state-properties: If one knows two properties, the state can be determined, as well as the other four properties. Unlike most textbooks, the first two chapters of this book introduce thermodynamic properties and laws with the ideal gas model, where equations can be engaged. In this way, students can employ their familiar approaches, and thus can understand them much better. In order to help students understand entropy in depth, interpretation with statistical physics is introduced. Chapters 3 and 4 discuss control-mass and control-volume processes with general fluids, where the data tables are used to solve problems. Chapter 5 covers a few advanced topics, which can also help students understand the concepts in thermodynamics from a broader perspective.

Book Advanced Thermodynamics Engineering Second Edition

Download or read book Advanced Thermodynamics Engineering Second Edition written by Kalyan Annamalai and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 1144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Thermodynamics Engineering, Second Edition is designed for readers who need to understand and apply the engineering physics of thermodynamic concepts. It employs a self-teaching format that reinforces presentation of critical concepts, mathematical relationships, and equations with concrete physical examples and explanations of applications—to help readers apply principles to their own real-world problems. Less Mathematical/Theoretical Derivations—More Focus on Practical Application Because both students and professionals must grasp theory almost immediately in this ever-changing electronic era, this book—now completely in decimal outline format—uses a phenomenological approach to problems, making advanced concepts easier to understand. After a decade teaching advanced thermodynamics, the authors infuse their own style and tailor content based on their observations as professional engineers, as well as feedback from their students. Condensing more esoteric material to focus on practical uses for this continuously evolving area of science, this book is filled with revised problems and extensive tables on thermodynamic properties and other useful information. The authors include an abundance of examples, figures, and illustrations to clarify presented ideas, and additional material and software tools are available for download. The result is a powerful, practical instructional tool that gives readers a strong conceptual foundation on which to build a solid, functional understanding of thermodynamics engineering.

Book Engineering Thermodynamics

Download or read book Engineering Thermodynamics written by D.C. Look and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-04-09 with total page 781 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy-its discovery, its availability, its use-concerns all of us in general and the engineers of today and tomorrow in particular. The study of thermodynamics-the science of energy-is a critical element in the education of all types of engineers. Engineering Thermodynamics provides a thorough intro duction to the art and science of engineering thermodynamics. It describes in a straightforward fashion the basic tools necessary to obtain quantitative solutions to common engineering applications involving energy and its conversion, conser vation, and transfer. This book is directed toward sophomore, junior, and senior students who have studied elementary physics and calculus and who are majoring in mechanical engineering; it serves as a convenient reference for other engineering disciplines as well. The first part of the book is devoted to basic thermodynamic principles, essentially presented in the classic way; the second part applies these principles to many situations, including air conditioning and the interpretation of statistical phenomena.
