Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Study from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: B, University of Canterbury, course: Strategic Management, language: English, abstract: Executive Summary Tesla wants to bring three electric car models on the German market; the Roadster in early 2009 and two future models in the following years. This strategic analysis is aimed at supporting Tesla in its management decisions to successfully launch these three models and gives advice on future strategy. It provides specific information on the German market and is divided into the analyses of critical success factors, emerging issues and trends and the support of innovation. Critical Success Factors It is most important to manage the cars' entrance into the market from the factory to the customer. This includes the choice of a strategic location for a future manufacturing facility that enables Tesla to produce higher quantities of the two future models, the distribution channel via importers and dealers, the marketing including advertisement and public relationships, and customer service. Pricing will be a success factor for the two future models. Emerging Issues and Trends Emerging issues can be considered on a global scale, most of them aren't specific to Germany. The major issue is the influence of the oil industry on the whole automotive sector. Transport experts predict that electric cars will be the successors of petrol cars; this is a threat for the existing industries and their established infrastructure. Supported are electric cars by the "green" trend and changes which are made in environmental legislations by the German government and some city councils. Further support comes from the power industry which desires to launch the concept "vehicle to grid". This concept reduces energy generation and distribution issues and only works with an increasing number of electric cars. Support of Innovation Tesla can be innovative by developi

Book Tesla s Market Entry Strategy in Germany Foreign Market Entry and Cross Cultural Business

This book was released on 2020-11-18 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A+, , course: Cross-Cultural Business, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the market entry of Tesla Inc. in Germany. In November 2019, Tesla revealed to build a European production plant on the outskirts of Berlin in Germany. The aim of this paper is to give account to the foreign market entry of Tesla Inc. in Germany. This leads to the following research question that guides this paper: What could be business success factors and threats of Tesla's strategy to enter the German automotive industry market? Tesla Inc. (former Tesla Motors Inc.) is a car manufacturer and sells fully electric vehicles, energy storage systems as well as installs, operates and maintains solar and energy storage products (Reuters, n.d.). The company was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers. In 2008 Tesla launched their first electric vehicle to the market (Tesla, n.d.). “Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy”, so the car manufacturer. So far most of the Tesla vehicles are produced and assembled in the United States at its main Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. To that Tesla operates other, multiple production and assembly plants, named Gigafactory, such as in Fremont, California (Giga Nevada) and in Buffalo, New York (Giga New York). Recently, in 2019, Tesla opened its first Gigafactory outside the American region in Shanghai, China (Giga Shanghai). A strategic step to internationalize the company and to enter the Chinese market. This strategic action can be explained by the fact that China is the largest car market in the world and the government is speeding up the expansion of electric mobility. Furthermore, manufacturing in Shanghai saves Tesla from having to transport its vehicles overseas and avoids import duties incurred in China for cars from the United States. However, the company is not just expanding its manufacturing into China.

Book Full speed towards a sustainable future The story of the electric car in Germany

Download or read book Full speed towards a sustainable future The story of the electric car in Germany written by Fabian Guse and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,7, VU University Amsterdam , language: English, abstract: “I believe in horses, automobiles are a passing phenomenon”1 (Kaiser Wilhelm II, 1905) More than 100 years ago when the first motorized vehicles appeared on the streets, Kaiser Wilhelm II was not able to see the potential of this invention and how it would change the world he lived in. Today we are facing the next revolution of transportation technology, elec-tric mobility (e-mobility). In consideration of continuous scarcity of fossil resources and pro-gressive environmental issues caused by increasing amounts of CO2 emissions in our atmos-phere, a rethinking of universally accepted habits is needed. Public and private transportation account for 19% of the overall CO2 emissions in Germany and is therefore one of the largest contributors to climate change and local air pollution (Umweltbundesamt, 2011). This circumstance also shows the great political relevance of this topic as well as the need to make the whole industry more sustainable. A sustainable innovation like the electric car can help to decrease the negative externalities of economic growth and reduce the ecological footprint of a modern-day life. Against this background, the German government proclaims that Germany should be the leading market for e-mobility; aiming to have a diffusion rate of one million electric cars until 2020 (Delhaes, 2008). In order to achieve this, they are dependent on the innovation activities of the German automotive industry. But consumers as well as car manu-factures seem to be skeptical about this novelty, which results in a comparable small diffusion rate of only 7114 electric cars in the end of 2012 (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, 2013). For instance, in Denmark the diffusion rate of new electronic cars is 30 times higher than in Germany and even The Netherlands have a rate that is 8 times higher (Masson, 2013). The mentioned diffu-sion rate shows the total number of newly registered electric cars in comparison to the total number of traditional fuel cars within a year. This is curious on a first view as Germany has the largest automotive industry in the world, consisting of firms like BMW, Daimler, Opel and Volkswagen. One would hence expect great interest and a proactive stance from both the firms as well as the government in supporting this innovation. (...) Table of Content 1. Introduction 1.1. Tesla entered the German market to export premium EVs. The Automaker also builds a charging network in Germany and prepares the market for its future mass production Model 3 coming in 2017. This work consists of three major parts. The first part deals with the theoretical background of international strategies for MNEs. The second part describes Tesla as a company and its strategy. The last part analyzes the competitive advantages of Tesla and shows how they are used to enter the German market. This work ends with a final reflection and a conclusion of the research.

Book The electric car A future model for everyone in Germany

Download or read book The electric car A future model for everyone in Germany written by Lisa von Wachter and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-03-04 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pre-University Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: 1,3, , language: English, abstract: One million electric vehicles by 2020 was the federal government's goal. So far, only 53,861 purely electric cars are driving in Germany (as of January 1st, 2018). However, manufacturers are having to rely more and more on electrical engineering in order not to exceed the upper limit of the permitted CO2 emissions for cars. This upper limit is further reduced by politicians in order to reduce CO2 emissions in traffic. Cars with internal combustion engines will not be able to meet these future values. The importance of electric cars in the future is therefore a topic that is being discussed more and more frequently in the media, in politics and in business. In order to advance the energy transition, Lienkamp calls for an urgent rethinking of car use. With the statement "Because I go on vacation once a year, I don't have an Airbus in the garden" he tries to convince his listeners that an electric car does not have to drive 1000 km at a time if it is primarily used for the city. The key question in my seminar paper is whether the electric car, with its advantages and disadvantages, will be a future model for everyone in Germany. At the beginning I would like to give an overview of the topic of electric cars and describe the current situation in Germany. Among other things, I check the sustainability of the electric cars. Are they really as ecological as the proponents always say? Then I deal with the important topic of range, which is often described as insufficient. I will also explain the situation of the charging infrastructure today and in the future. Is the charging infrastructure already sufficient, and what needs to change in the future? The question of cost plays a relevant role and is an important decision point for many buyers. When will electric cars cost as much or even less than cars with internal combustion engines? Who will switch to an electric car and when in the future? I will deal with these questions and others in the topic of future viability of the electric car. The content of my investigation is limited to electromobility in the passenger car sector. In addition, I will only go into the development, the sensible use of pure electric cars and their future prospects in Germany and leave out global change. Hydrogen vehicles and hybrid vehicles are not taken into account.

Book How to Successfully Manage the Transition into the Battery Electric Vehicle Market A Comparison of Pricing Strategies in Developed and Emerging Markets

Download or read book How to Successfully Manage the Transition into the Battery Electric Vehicle Market A Comparison of Pricing Strategies in Developed and Emerging Markets written by Tim Tegtmeyer and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-09-08 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of the Americas Puebla, language: English, abstract: In the present years, many established automakers find themselves in the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. Climate change is a growing concern in society, so car manufacturers try to do their part to combat it. As of today, the most promising environmentally friendly option is the battery electric vehicle, so many expect it to dominate the markets in a few years. However, this transition brings many fundamental questions, one of them being the pricing strategy. Elevated production costs, government intervention, and very dynamic competition make the companies face a situation they have not faced before, so, this investigation tries to guide them by comparing the three most used strategies: penetration pricing, price skimming, and a cost-plus strategy. I used a survey in combination with information from the literature to assess the effectiveness of each of the pricing strategies. The results have been analyzed for both emerging and developing markets using the examples of Germany and Mexico, but only small systematical differences could be identified. As the results show, neither penetration nor a skimming strategy is promising. In the case of the penetration strategy, companies would have to sell cars significantly below production costs, and once they increase the prices to recover financial losses, clients would flee to other brands due to a high demand elasticity and low brand loyalty. For the price skimming strategy, it was found that it is very hard to generate a solid initial sales volume. Thus, companies sticking with the simple cost-plus strategy are most likely to succeed.

Book German Market and Policy Options

Download or read book German Market and Policy Options written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric vehicles (EVs) have the potential to reduce green house gas emissions from the transport sector. However, the limited electric range of EVs could impede their market introduction. Still some potential users are willing to pay more for EVs. The combined effect of these and other influencing factors as well as the resulting future market evolution are unclear. Here, we study the market evolution of EVs in Germany until 2020. Our results reveal a great deal of uncertainty in the market evolution of EVs due to external conditions and the users' willingness to pay. We find the future share of EVs in German passenger car stock to range from 0.4% to almost 3% by 2020. Energy prices have a large impact on EV market evolution as a 25% increase in fuel prices would double the number of EVs in stock by 2020 compared to a reference scenario. The high uncertainty of the market evolution implies that policies to foster market diffusion of EVs should be dynamically adaptable to react to changing framework conditions. We find a special depreciation allowance for commercial vehicles and a subsidy of 1,000 Euro as the most effective and efficient monetary policy options.

Book Migrating from Oil to Electricity Powered Vehicles Modeling Germany s Transition to the EV until 2040 in System Dynamics

Download or read book Migrating from Oil to Electricity Powered Vehicles Modeling Germany s Transition to the EV until 2040 in System Dynamics written by Michael Stephan and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009-10-05 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1.0, Otto Beisheim School of Management Vallendar (Kuehne Foundation Chair in Logistics Management), language: English, abstract: Replacing traditional internal combustion engine cars by electric vehicles (EVs) offers significant advantages, such as lower CO2 emissions, lower noise pollution and lower oil consumption. Nonetheless, a potential migration of Germany's personal transportation ector towards the EV faces significant challenges like a low initial driving range and high production costs of the EV, as well as high investment costs into a supporting infrastructure. It is argued that some of these challenges form "chicken-and-egg"-problems that are particularly difficult to overcome. We analyze these challenges using a comprehensive System Dynamics model calibrated to Germany for the period from 2010 to 2040 with endogenous infrastructure entry and exit, detailed reigonal driving behavior, technological improvement and economies of scale. We conclude that the EV will eventually overcome these initial hurdles after 2002, even though market penetration will remain limited for a long time. The impact of different recharging technologies and a potential up-front deployment of recharging infrastructure are investigated. Furthermore, we evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of policy measures in support of the EV and aggregate potential annual CO2 emission reductions due to the introduction of the EV for different scenarios. The thesis includes: - Concrete, numeric market potential forecasts for Germany under different scenarios and assumptions (including a rapid "Better Place"-style deployment of infrastructure) - Overview over current EV technology - A description of a sophisticated System Dynamics model, including algorithms to simulate driving behavior on a regional level (>450 regions for Germany) - Sensitivity analysis for different technology development patterns and various subsidies (including city tolls for non-zero emission vehicles or infrastructure subsidies) Model, as well as data is available from the authors upon request.

Book Racing Toward Zero

Download or read book Racing Toward Zero written by Kelly Senecal and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Racing Toward Zero, the authors explore the issues inherent in developing sustainable transportation. They review the types of propulsion systems and vehicle options, discuss low-carbon fuels and alternative energy sources, and examine the role of regulation in curbing emissions. All technologies have an impact on the environment, from internal combustion engine vehicles to battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, and hybrids-there is no silver bullet. The battery electric vehicle may seem the obvious path to a sustainable, carbon-free transportation future, but it's not the only, nor necessarily the best, path forward. The vast majority of vehicles today use the internal combustion engine (ICE), and this is unlikely to change anytime soon. Improving the ICE and its fuels-entering a new ICE age-must be a main route on the road to zero emissions. How do we go green? The future requires a balanced approach to transportation. It's not a matter of choosing between combustion or electrification; it's combustion and electrification. As the authors say, "The future is eclectic." By harnessing the best qualities of both technologies, we will be in the best position to address our transportation future as quickly as possible.
