Born into poverty on a farm in Missouri, he was the author of the bestselling How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (1948) and many more self-help books. Summary of the Book 1. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it. “You can’t win an argument. You can’t because if you lost it, you lose it; and if you win it, you lose it,” because, “a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still”. Instead, try to: A. Welcome the disagreement – you might avoid a serious mistake. B. Watch out for and distrust your first instinct to be defensive. C. Control your temper. D. Listen first. E. Look first for areas of agreement. F. Be honest about and apologise for your mistakes. G. Promise to think over your opponent’s ideas and study them carefully. H. Thank the other person sincerely for their time and interest. I. Postpone action to give both sides time to think through the problem. 2. Show respect for the other person’s opinions. Never say “You’re wrong.” It’s “tantamount to saying: ‘I’m smarter than you are.'” Instead, consider that “you will never get into trouble by admitting that you may be wrong” and see the above point. Even if you know you are right, try something like: “I may be wrong. I frequently am. If I’m wrong I want to be put right. Let’s examine the facts.” ---------- Techniques in Handling

Book More Messy People Women s Bible Study Leader Guide

Download or read book More Messy People Women s Bible Study Leader Guide written by Jennifer Cowart and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2024-08-20 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God can use imperfect people to do incredible things. The More Messy People leader guide outlines six small group sessions, complete with prayers, summaries, and discussion questions. It is designed to be used with the participant workbook and DVD and will support group leaders of all experience levels in creating strong learning communities. Jen Cowart continues her study of the very messy lives of biblical heroes—people who, like us, made mistakes but found God was able to use them in powerful ways. They all play a significant role in the biblical narrative, but their stories are far from perfect. Through the lives of rival sisters like Leah and Rachel, or sisters with very different personalities like Martha and Mary, we see God chooses to use people who don’t have it all together. Through the lives of great, but imperfect, biblical heroes like Moses, Elijah, Peter, and Paul, we see God meets us in our troubles and chooses us even if we seem unqualified.

Book In the Shadow of the Cross

Download or read book In the Shadow of the Cross written by Billy Roberts and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Shadow of the Cross dispels one of the greatest myths of all time, that Jesus did not die on the cross, and in fact lived on to continue his ministry.. The author makes a detailed analysis of the secret life of Jesus, that was known to the early Christians and which was suppressed later by the Church of Rome. Did Jesus really travel incognito under the name of Yuz Asaph? Did he really marry Mary Magdalene and father her children? Many religious scholars and historians believe that a 2000 year old tomb in Srinagar, Kashmir, known as the Rozabal, was the final resting place of Jesus, 'The Prophet of the Book'. In the Shadow of the Cross explores the scientific as well as the historic facts, bringing to light a truth that has lain buried beneath 2000 years of falsehood, and which culminates in the greatest conspiracy of all time.

Book Leaks and whistleblowing in Whitehall

Download or read book Leaks and whistleblowing in Whitehall written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2009-08-10 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Committee calls for better and more accessible procedures for civil servants to raise concerns about the conduct of government. A route should to be established whereby evidence that a minister had misled Parliament or the public could be reported to Parliament following a complaint by a civil servant. Leaks damage trust within government and trust in government. The Committee concludes that leak investigations are often hamstrung by the fact that many leaks are politically motivated, including leaks from ministers and special advisers. The most effective way to prevent leaks by civil servants is to have accessible, effective and visible ways for individuals to raise concerns about the conduct of government, either internally or through an external oversight body, the Civil Service Commissioners. The report makes the following key recommendations: the Civil Service Commissioners should have the power to report to Parliament evidence indicating that the government was misleading Parliament or the public or the fact that the Civil Service has refused to act on a justified complaint; the Commissioners should also conduct independent investigation of breaches of confidentiality by special advisers; the leaking of information should only be a criminal matter where there is a breach of the Official Secrets Act or there is evidence of serious criminal misconduct; the Cabinet Office, Heads of Departments and the Civil Service Commissioners should do more to ensure that potential whistleblowers know how to raise concerns and have the confidence to come forward with them.

Book Your Resonant Self Guided Meditations and Exercises to Engage Your Brain s Capacity for Healing

Download or read book Your Resonant Self Guided Meditations and Exercises to Engage Your Brain s Capacity for Healing written by Sarah Peyton and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practices for well-being, based in neuroscience and geared toward kindness. Skills for people to learn to be with themselves in the healthiest way possible. When we experience trauma or need to find a way to protect ourselves from interpersonal hurt, we make unconscious contracts with ourselves, such as: “I will never let myself get treated that way again” or “I will never forgive myself for that.” But these contracts often result in harmful behaviors like self-criticism, lack of trust, and procrastination. Until we recognize and free ourselves from these damaging contracts, we can never truly heal. Your Resonant Self Workbook: From Self-sabotage to Self-care takes us through the world of relational neuroscience and, using the lens of unconscious contracts, explores how our brains, nervous systems, and bodies react to the brains, nervous systems, and bodies of others. Case studies, resonant-language practice, questionnaires, mediations, and journaling provide readers with healing strategies for uncovering and rewriting these contracts. Following Your Resonant Self, this workbook provides the tools to turn inward with kindness, warmth, and curiosity and create opportunities for self-healing.
