Book Human Dignity and the Common Good

Download or read book Human Dignity and the Common Good written by Richard Rousseau and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consisting of the full text of eight papal social encyclicals dating back to 1891 and the papacy of Leo XIII, and one important papal radio address on Christian social ethics, this reference work also introduces, outlines, and summarizes the texts in a clear, understandable language. Each encyclical was intended to be a commentary on and modernization of Leo XIII's masterly and foundational encyclical Rerum Novarum, and Rousseau brings them together using their standard paragraph numbering system for easy reference. This valuable reference represents a unique thematic approach to these important religious and social documents. Readers will better understand the social, economic, political and thoroughly Christian ideas of Popes throughout the 20th century with the outline and summary interpretation of each text.

Book Proceedings of the 18th Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society

Download or read book Proceedings of the 18th Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society written by Andrea Duranti and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 14, 1986, Simone de Beauvoir died in Paris. She was the “prettiest Existentialist”, who during her long and intense life had observed, described, analytically deconstructed and effectively changed the world that surrounded her, “one word at a time”. An engaged intellectual like her life partner and comrade Jean-Paul Sartre, she took actively part in most of the main social and political struggles of the 20th century, including, first and foremost, women’s emancipation and self-determination, as well as the decolonisation of French Algeria, and the denouncement of American imperialism in Vietnam and the marginalisation of elderly people in contemporary societies. This collection of essays, arising from the 18th International Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society held in Cagliari, Italy, in June 2010, provides a major contribution to the field of Beauvoirian studies with up-to-date research provided by scholars from a variety of disciplines that range from French literature to gender studies, from philosophy to social sciences, offering a multifaceted overview on the “state of the art” of research on the life and the works of Simone de Beauvoir, 30 years after her demise.

Book Cathedra Veritatis On the Extension of Papal Infallibility

Download or read book Cathedra Veritatis On the Extension of Papal Infallibility written by John Joy and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-11-27 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work explores the extension of papal infallibility with regard to its object (doctrine of faith and morals) and with regard to its act (ordinary teaching and extraordinary or solemn definition). Two main questions are taken up in the first part: whether it is certain that the pope is able to speak infallibly about doctrines pertaining to faith or morals which are not directly included in the deposit of faith (e.g. the canonization of saints); and secondly, whether this secondary object of infallibility extends to everything pertaining to faith and morals (so as to include, for example, every particular moral norm of the natural law). The second part is then primarily concerned with the question as to whether the pope is infallible only in the exercise of his extraordinary magisterium or whether the ordinary papal magisterium might also be infallible in some cases.

Book Catholicism Politics and Society in Twentieth century France

Download or read book Catholicism Politics and Society in Twentieth century France written by Kay Chadwick and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catholicism, once the protean monster, still functions as a complex component of French identity. No consideration of modern France would be complete without reference to the enduring impact and influence of Catholicism on the life of the nation. This volume sets out to capture some of the variety and significance of the Catholic phenomenon in twentieth-century secular France, and to express something of its extraordinary vitality and interest. Each contribution focuses on a specific theme or period crucial to an understanding of the role played by French Catholics and their Church. Collectively, these studies reveal that Catholics were involved in almost every event of consequence and voiced an opinion on almost every issue. Equally, the volume offers a collage of insights which reflects the fragmentation of Catholic activity and attitudes as the century progressed. Being Catholic in modern France no longer means the espousal of a particular political or social agenda. Nor does it necessarily mean regular and traditional religious observance, or even strict adherence to the dictates of the Church. Modern French Catholicism truly has many mansions.

Book Hide Your Children

Download or read book Hide Your Children written by Liz Wheeler and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having conquered all the major institutions of our culture, the left is closing in on its final frontier—your children. In this new book, Liz Wheeler exposes where the forces of wokeness are at work and explains how parents can fight back for a change. Everythingis on the line. Despite the occasional victory, conservatives are on the defensive on every front of the culture wars, especially America’s schools. Planned Parenthood is funding gender theory indoctrination, groomer teachers are introducing youngsters to pornography, Disney executives are bragging about their “queerness agenda,” and teacher’s unions are poisoning young minds with racism. If someone doesn’t stand up and fight, these ideas will be the norm for a new generation. A distressing number of parents refuse to see how depraved our schools have become. The next generation will determine the fate of the American experiment in ordered liberty. Will they pass it on to their children, or will we lose our nation forever? Parents and their allies must go on the offensive in this existential fight. Fortunately, they have the truth on their side. It is not too late.
